  6. I've used Avalon King in the past and loved it. This time I got the new "Max" version. Between the buffing, polishing, and ceramic, you can no longer get photos of the truck. Just the things it reflects. I used the Cerakote restorer ceramic on the black plastic, and that was amazing too. Just the right amount of light sheen. Trim before: Trim after: I have the Adam's graphene tire dressing, and a new offering from Chemical Guys that's intended for all rubber/plastic/vinyl. I'm going to try each of them on different sides and see how the results vary. I'll also use it on the hard plastic/vinyl around the interior such as door sills and the like. And their interior ceramic for the dash and seats. (Seats are "vegan leather" (yes I hate that term too), so you can deal with them as you'd deal with any other polyurethane.) It's been a motherfucker to get to this point. Not only is there a lot of prep for ceramic, but I managed to get the entire hood and some of the front coated in silicone. What a disaster that nobody knew how to fix.

  7. Once again the mighty .org has brought a huge smile and two wheels to someone without. Middle son helped me unload it in Gardiner and promptly rode it around the block, All GRINS! His BMW has been down for a year or so, 180K, it will be retired. Thank You Scott! Next trip thru I'll bring a case of Cold Smoke for the crew, did not have time to source it this trip. Fabulous Dealership BTW.

  8. Ever noticed how drinking all those glasses of water took forever and so tiresome while a 12 pack of beer will just disappear in a few hours? Yes most people are dehydrated everyday of their lives, watching Eddie Hall who drinks a large amount of water everyday to stay hydrated did a health check video and his doctor still told him that he is dehydrated. Fine line of between hydrated and water intoxication.

  9. If it's empty you'll want to make sure it's leak free before investing in r12, and make sure you get enough because it'll take at least two, probably more. There should be a sticker showing how much it takes.

  10. Last call for miscellaneous XX bits and pieces. This place is getting cleaned up and I can't be emotional about it. This stuff is leaving soon. If there is something you need, speak up and I'll try to find it. Rare-ish items with high demand are being sold at reasonable prices, otherwise things are pennies on a dollar to cover shipping and aggravation. I find more stuff as I dig through the back yard. Speak up. The worst I can say is I don't have it. My stock of bodywork is very minimal. Most of the stuff I have is not pristine, but well, that'll buff out.

  11. are the mirror brackets rare-ish? have levers? aftermarket goodies? since i'm planning on riding mine into the ground, i'm thinking of spares that aren't too bulky to ship.

  16. Did you pre-lube it?--run the pump with a drill after assembly to prime the oil system. The biggest mistake I see done a lot is to not prelube, AND pre-fill the filter with oil. This creates an air lock between the pump and filter not allowing the pump to prime. An empty filter, tho it takes a moment to fill, at least lets the pump prime quickly. I watched my friend kill his new hot-rod motor this way, I told him it would happen and how to prevent it, but his other friend helping him said I was wrong. On motors that can't be pre-lubed I crank the motor with no plugs and the filter off till it squirts oil (very quick), then install a pre-filled filter and get instant oil pressure. Assuming everything was lubed with assembly lube the little cranking required will be perfectly safe. Having the plugs out is an extra safety measure so there's little load on the bearings during priming. Did you clean all the oil holes including the crank? I've seen many motors wiped out early due to dirty oil holes. Most engines, if not all, have some oil holes that have to be plugged off and I've seen them left unplugged leaving a wide open escape for oil leaving little or no pressure in the system. A few years ago I did some reading on adding zinc to oil and the it was stated that the old zinc/phos and the new replacement additives can work against each other. The two tests most discussed here have been the 4 ball and the scrubber pressure test thing. The 4 ball should be a good representation of wear in a roller cam and the scrubber test a flat tappet cam. My understanding of zinc is that it does nothing until there's a moment where the oil film is scrubbed off then the zinc becomes the final barrier.
