Only when sales for hyperbikes jump dramatically. Suzuki has been the only maker that has successfully sold these bikes every year. Hayabusa's aren't even the top dog anymore and I'd be willing to bet that they still double the number of 14's sold for the year in 2012.

The economy in every western nation is in a depression. Nobody is buying sportbikes in numbers to justify investing much in R&D, or at least not investing in making working concepts of what R&D is working on.

The market for now is the small, light and inexpensive models. That's what's selling.

Honda must be taking in money from other places than bike sales.

They aren't in the lead in any class be cruiser, tourer, or sport. Hell I doubt they are even close in dirt and quad.

They are certainly charging for top notch bikes, while the others are actually making them and selling them.

Biggest money has to be in cars, but even Honda's vehicle line up is taking a toll with all of the cheaper, up to par, vehicles ie. kia optima = accord, kia forte = civic, hyundai sonata = accord, elantra = civic. For thousands less. And some have recieved better reviews. Honda has their shit together with proof of reliability, they will takeover again soon enough. Lets see a hybrid bike with batteries low to create a really low center of gravity, proper spacing for weight distribution, and huge torque from an electric motor. Or a plug in... it is all going to happen sooner or later.

Right now there isn't a single Honda bike screaming at me, and hasn't been one in 6 or 7 yrs.

Only a couple bikes screamed at me the way the XX did and not 1 of them were Honda.

Reading the article about the MotoGP Repsol bikes screams Honda has the technology to build a bike that will kick everyones ass and take names.

instead we get pieces of shit, like the Fury, DT-01, Dream 50, and that land barge thing with the goldwing motor.. forget the name

The problem with the bikes and them producing another CBX is that when the CBX was intro'd there wasnt anything like it on the road.

And the lead engineer for the project has retired.

Corporate thinking has also changed in the last 5 years....It used to be the engineers and the product specialist's that directed new product development...Now its the fucking bean counter accountants and the market specialist's who want market share and top sellers.

I think the slosest to a CBR your ever gonna see right now in THIS corporate enviroment IS the VFR. Hold on tight to your XX and stockpile spare parts. I've seen the so called pictures of the "new ST" and its a fucking VFR with a passenger saddle and bluetooth.

I'd rather keep what I have.

They dont really care about it - and what care they do have is for "world bikes" they can super-mass produce and sell thousands of around the world (examples - CBR250R, NC700X, NCH50D). They flat wont build a bike for the American market any more, and have said as much repeatedly in the last 5 years - that's why no big cruisers etc.

In 2001 Honda sold 45,000+ Goldwings in the US. In 2011 right at 9,000. From almost 1 million motorcycles and ATV's in the US to about 200,000 in 2011. That's how far the market has dropped, and why so many dealers out there have failed (1 in 3 US dealers from 2008 to now) and are still failing. As someone with a front row seat, believe me when I say it's tough to be a manufacturer and a dealer right now. Add in a metric shit-ton of corporate in-fighting, management changes, and downsizing Honda isnt a fun place to work right now.

Honda's sales problems aren't all due to the market. When they brought in the Powerhouse concept, they axed their entire existing motorcycle dealer network, and all the years (decades in some cases) of experience and goodwill those dealerships represented. Some of those old-time Honda dealers went under, but a lot of them found other brands to sell. And rather than go deal with clueless car salesmen at a mega-dealer with Civics on one side and Shadows on the other, a lot of the loyal customers said fuck Honda and switched to whatever their local motorcycle dealership was now selling.

Honda's automotive reliability is starting to weaken as well. They five speed transmissions (Accord, Odyssey, etc) have serious issues.

I too have waited over 6 years, followed up on the rumors, waited some more, then sold my 01' and bought an 08' ZX14 modded exactly how I wanted it that was just under 1 year old.

I had sellers remorse until I got the new bike. I had thought for sure that the new owner of my bike was going to total it(first bike) but after 1.5 yrs of ownership, he was still ok.

Anyway, Honda, if they were to build a hyperbike along the lines of the XX, would have a lot of trouble in current times economically, to sell it. They always price their bikes at a premium. Yes they have the technology to create an XX that is competitive with the new 14 or even the Busa' but they are FAR TOO CONSERVATIVE as a corporation to build what they view as a niche bike.

The new interceptor is a good example of this. Fantastic engineering and fit and finish but what market is it built for? Not an XX replacement, not to go up against the other 2 hyperbikes, more or less it's up against the new C14. But once again, look at the price.

The new V-Max is also a fine example of how pricing and marketing are working against a niche vehicle. $20k for a ripping' hot rod cruiser is nuts. It should be priced in the high14's.

It is my understanding that the Blackbirds didn't sell that well in the US. If not, why would they make another? The 14 is at the top of the class now but I would like to see the sales numbers over a few years. I'm guessing they are not that high. Remember folks, it is all about the money.

Solution.... find a low mileage bird, they are out there, just need to search. Spend 5K modding the shit out of it and replacing any worn components. Boom, good to go for 5K less than a new bike. I don't feel as if a new bike is necessary. Find what you like, modify to what you love, enjoy.

Hell my 97 has 62,000+ miles on it and not a mins problems. I would not hesitate to take it cross country or put it on the track.

The only reason in my eyes for a new bike would be a major engine failure or wreck.

Some people just like to have new and shiny which is nice if you can afford it by all mean go for it. In this economy most people can't .

I have not owned a new vehicle for myself ever . My wife had always gotten the new car. I always have a used set of wheels.

Hell my Chevy Silverado had almost 200k on it and I love that fuckin truck.

Honda will come back once the economy turns around if it ever does. Until then they will just lay low and save their money .

Altthooouuugghhh... if they were to make a new one, I would likely be interested. Honestly I would rather drive around a POS car, and make payments on a bike. The new bird I envision would likely run up 18K with all the taxes and BS.

I'm on my second '97. Bought my first one from John Perez with 70000 + miles on it and rode it till it met its demise in the side of a minivan. It had 139000 miles on it. Rode it all over the country. Bought my second one a month and a half later (picked it up while my arm was still in a cast) with a little over 40000 miles on it. That was 3 years ago. I'm 250 miles short of the 100000 mile mark. I've ridden it all over the country. Would not hesitate to ride it anywhere.
