  1. That bill creates what I think is a reasonable exemption, and by that I mean balancing the argument between environmental protection and letting people have a bit of freedom. The requirement of having collector car insurance means that won't allow everyone to circumvent emissions testing for their dirty old beaters, it'll only exempt cars that are nice enough to qualify for collector insurance. It might create a new market for insurance companies allowing shitty old cars to have a 'collector' policy, but currently I think they have to be pretty nice. There's also talk about Trump dismantling CARB, and possibly the EPA. Some people are saying that smog testing will end entirely, but I find that hard to believe. I think it would be 'reasonable' to dismantle CARB and AQMD and have us under the thumb of Federal EPA emissions standards. I think any modifications that keep a car's emissions within the limits for that car should be allowed, but Commiefornia disagrees. They also won't allow mods that make an old dirty engine cleaner unless those mods have an approval by CARB.
  2. The 5.4 3valve is somewhat notorious for killing cats. I don't know if ford is using junky cats or if it's because the ignition system is able to fire neglected plugs well enough that they get neglected far too long and that kills the cats. The last one I did plugs on had 135K on the plugs and only missed under load. A couple days later he had a fault code for a cat on the same side that had a misfire code. The plugs were so worn out that they'd started firing to the side of the outer electrode instead of the center. I've never come across a 2 valve with a bad cat or a 3 valve with good cats, clearly something has changed.
  3. Route 66 is just a few miles north of me, PCH a few more south.
  4. The back seat in my F-150 is not great for people, but it's better for cargo than the bigger crew cab trucks I've owned. The bigger bonus is that it shrinks the truck to a size that makes it much more convenient. It also takes weight off which gets added to the towing/cargo capacity. The fancy King Ranch crew cab was the worst for cargo, very nice for people, but only two people because it has nice bucket seats and a big center console. Pick your poison, pretty sure I'll never want a crew cab.
  5. It's free so I don't see a reason not to.
  6. I quoted that for no other reason than it being hilarious. This may sound retarded: Will ceramic coating hold up being under water full time? The specific application is toilet bowls. I've also thought about doing the RV toilet bowl, that 'should' be less challenging since it's not underwater full time.
  7. I had that thought. The V-twin would be perfect for having a pair of truck stacks poking out of the roof. But the bike is too nice to do that to it.
  8. I'd be all over it, but you probably didn't even do a break-in oil change so forgetaboutit. That's actually a very pretty cartruck and seems like a good deal, wish I had a use for it.
  9. Tow capacity used to be whatever the manufacturer wanted to list, now they're based on SAE tests. The new one will tow way better in every way, the only thing I don't know is how well the hybrid system will hold up to the additional constant load. How often do you have back seat passengers?
  10. I doubt a misfire would cause a heater code, I think the computer's only way of detecting that is by the resistance in the heater circuit. The only times I've had that code it was bad heaters, but there can be other causes. I've never had a coil only cause a miss only under heavy load or high RPM, but it's possible.
  11. I stood up on it and didn't hit the roof so you should be fine. Hard to say for sure, but it seems roomy enough for a taller person.
  12. OEM coils are spendy, aftermarket are hit and miss. I typically swap the suspect coil to another cylinder and see if the missfire follows it. In this case I'd probably swap the wire to another cylinder to see if it follows that. I'd also check the spark plug condition and brand, some engines are picky about using OEM. If the miss stays on that cylinder I'd throw in some injector cleaner, Techron is my go-to, but anything with PEA should work.
  13. I forgot, 46k. When looking at others for sale to figure out value I was somewhat surprised to find several over 100k.
  14. I rarely post my flip vehicles here, but this is in very good condition so I figured I should just in case someone's interested in a big cruiser. It has a loud exhaust and an almost as loud sound system, and a Power Commander. It was garage kept, the year of dust is included free of charge. The tires have good tread, but they're 10 years old. Fly & ride or ship it.
  15. You should open all conversations with that, and remind yourself of it throughout the conversation.
  16. And I hope they gave you enough money to make this worthwhile.
  17. What Carlos said, plus sliding certain metals across each other is like nails on a chalkboard to me, particularly SS.
  18. MSRP is $5k, kickstarter for $2,500, so you don't have to wait 'till the end to find out that it's not cheap.
  19. Just saw this. It's mostly 5/16 and 3/8. I have lots of long screws, few shorts. I'm out or nearly out of non-locking nuts for one and washers for the other. But if you find yourself with an excess of 1/4, they'll get used.
  20. If you want to be able to weld on it, make a metal table then a wood/melamine slab you can throw on top of it for doing other things. If you don't weld, you could do the opposite and have a steel topper for your wood table, but I don't think you'd need steel unless you expect to drop heavy/pointy stuff onto it. Thinking about solving your problem solved one for me. I have a large SS table but mostly hate working on steel so it's been a junk shelf, I might make a wood/melamine topper for it, or maybe just lay a sheet of melamine on it if it lays flat on its own.
  21. So you're saying the hardness is closer to cold cheddar than warm butter? It looks like you could just have the new jack push on the frame and have the pin just to keep it from being able to slip outward. If not, I'd weld a loop or large nut onto the lifting pad of the new jack, or eliminate the pin and make a 'cup' for the lifting pad to sit in.
  22. I listened to a couple minutes of the video before having to turn it off, the dude sounds like a goof. He implied that it's cheap and easy to make, but his video hits me like an infomercial trying to sell the stuff. If he isn't trying to sell it and is merely dumbing it down for dumb people to understand it that's fine, I'm ok with being wrong about him.
  23. We should go to meetings or something. Yes. Be sure to send me the details so I can attend, I need this. And let me know how big of a vehicle I should bring. I'm nearly out of normal fasteners in a few common sizes and it kills me. By 'normal' I mean not stainless, not socket head, etc. I 'should' buy a few bulk boxes of them, but then I'm sure I'll run across a stash of them somewhere and regret it.
