  1. Wouldn't the bike run off the alternator output with the batt disconnected? sounds like a switch I remember a Triumph that would do that, more often at speed at night round a curve in the road. Damn near made my give up riding.
  2. I had a truck that didn't have that much horsepower. But it did have two headlights. Yup, awesome machine.
  3. Thanks I needed that, And some for my Tundra, it has 120k I suppose I could change them.
  4. Just make it easy and cheap don't go 85

    Chains

Add a Pro-oiler and add many more miles. The no hassle auto oiling, on the fly adjustment more than have offset the cost. I hadn't even considered longer chain life. I installed one last year and still have not adjusted the chain, It can make a mess till you get it dialed in with the right lube and amount. I like it.
  6. Thanks - much appreciated
  7. Without taking them apart and looking, I'm wondering what causes this phenomena. With the wheel off I cam move the fork sliders forward and back about half a mm - sideways about 1 mm. Not much but enough to know there is something worn enough to allow movement. Anyone know what I need to order and a good online source? I bought the bike with a race-teck kit. valved for a heavier rider. I'll be changing shims. seals and boots as well as installing stem bearings just as PM. I have the stem bearings and seals from All-Balls, just wondering

    Chain Jumping

Determining the frequency will indicate whether it's the chain, front, or rear sprocket. If it's one link in the chain the noise - feeling will occur with each full rotation of the chain. Likewise if it's the front sprocket the frequency will be much higher. With the bike on the center stand, or with the rear wheel free, and the chain tightened, rotating the rear wheel should give an indication of the source. And check with the cover on and then off as well. Most probably the chain. Ditch the teflon spray and get another chain lube.

    Tire mystery

You have a FJR and a bird? And the FJR never gives you guff? Sounds to me like there may be some seriously hurt feelings in the garage. Perhaps a fresh oil change, some high test, a wax job and a little bonding time might patch things up.
  11. With all the difference of experience I'm wondering how much road surface factors in. I can imagine there are significant road material differences across the planet , even differences in concrete.
  12. Me too - Me Too 99 with Yoshi slip ons I did have it dynoed last year here in Mt. couldn't tell the difference, had the same rough idle. Probable TB sync needed. I'll be doing valves first, then sync, then I was thinking another dyno, but they want $175. still snowing

Shucks I was hoping that this would be about tire chains, 14" of snow and still snowing.
  15. Have the girlfriend move in with you.
  16. I agree with this...but when it comes to having a bigger house to better suit your family....not so sure an RV can be considered a keeper. I would also bet....he doesn't ride it as much as it being a labor of love. Put the kids in bunk beds, trust me, they will be leaving before you know it. It really doesn't matter how big the house is or where you live. School yes. The most important thing is for them to learn independence and to know that they are loved. Then let them go and have a nice ride.
  17. There are some things that just can't be replaced, this is one. When you are old, you will wish you still had it. And how much does it cost to keep? Think about it, someday one of your great grand children will find it in the back corner of the garage covered up and will be stunned! Being the genius child that they are, they will secretly formulate fuel and whatever is needed to make the thing run again. They will then secretly roll the bike out and learn to handle it and one fine day will scream it down the highway. Once again there will be someone on the planet that will feel the freedom of riding! Then the police will catch them and subject them to the mandatory thought management training. Oh well, good luck, I'd love to buy it just to have another one.
  18. Yep JB weld and that will buff right out. If it hit hard enough to do that what else is bent/broken??
  19. So, a question for you who have set valves more than once. Is it better to have the clearance on the low side or high side of tolerance. I'm wondering if, with miles, the valve clearance opens up or gets tighter.
  20. Switch oil?? Sorry to hear that, hope you are not hurt.
  21. If you are not using frosting for toothpaste you don't really have a problem. If you don't fill your bellybutton with frosting in the morning for later you don't really have a problem. If you don't mail yourself Hostess Twinkies so you can have a snack when you pick up the mail you don't really have a problem. You do have a problem if you tell your friends you eat to give your truck better traction. Or if you think of all the starving people in China and eat so the food isn't wasted. And if you stand on the roadside with a sign that says "will work for doughnuts" you have a problem.
