I believe that Honda put a dampner in the transmition to stop the gears from spinning when in neutral. This reduces the amount of jumping you get when you first put your bike into gear. I just let out the clutch enough to spin the gears and pop it into gear.

Polish is for removing light scratches and oxidation. It acts as a light surface cleaner. Wax is for putting a protective covering over your finish. I like Meguires brand. I use thier spray polish followed by thier carnuba wax. I touch up the finish with Quick wax.

Here's what I did. It works. And I'm cheap. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/newhome.html?/rev...avon3940.html&2

Wow! I can't believe the amount of work you got done in such a short time. Looks great!

When idling in nuetral the tranny gears are spinning past each other. Probably what you are hearing.

Table saw: A device to turn perfectly good wood into sawdust! Any projects in mind?

I did drop one of those funky coil nuts into the abys. Lord knows where it is now.

I happen to live near Discount Motorcycle Tire Co. so I bought and installed them there. Pilot Roads, mounted and ballanced for about $260 including tax. I took the tires off myself and brought them in.

The tranny gears are still spinning as you shift into gear. I believe that later year Blackbirds had some kind of dampner added to slow the free spinning gears down a little. Try using a synthetic oil, it makes everything smoother.

Don't know, maybe they are paying for the new building? I bought an oil filter there for $12.00.

My local dealer (Fay Meyers) wants $42.00 for one. I said no thanks.

I have an extra stock can I plan to experiment with this winter. The link above shows the internal details. I was thinking of doing the long-drill-to-the-first-baffle-plate thing for starters.

The Sport Touring newsgroup seems to like it for their bikes (synthetic type). I could only find the dino version so I'm using Castrol Syntec. The engine feels smoother then when using synthetic blends or dino. Just over 10k miles.

Did you guys by new VFR clip-ons from the dealer or a salvage yard? How much did you pay for them? Inquiring mind(s) want to know!

I'm positive that I read it 'burps' best on the sidestand. An earlier thread said that the radiator cap is vented to the autmosphere. I believe that is only true in an over-pressure situation. Radiator caps are designed to seal the radiator up to a max pressure and then allows only excess presure to vent.

I have a stock right side muffler for a '99. I bought the set off e-bay when I needed to replace the left side. You can have it for free just pay shipping. Let me know. OK, just noticed you live nearby. I work in the Ken Carl area. I would be happy to bring the muffler into work.

I also jumped on the low price and am very happy with it.

I remeber read here that front spring sag should be around 35mm. Is this sag with only the bike weight or with my big butt on the seat? :?:

I will be ordering the TP430c Splitfires from www.sparkplugs.com for $5.99 each. Their cross reference is: Autolite, Traditional spark plug 4303 for $2.24 each. They also show: NGK VX platinum CR9EHVX-9 for $6.40 each. This is for a '99 XX. They just added these: NGK iridium CR9EHIX-9 for $6.95 . Hope it helps. -
My '99 came with NKG platinums.

Is that really grade 10 or 1.0?
-
Thanks guys. www.sparkplugs.com has the Splitfire triple platinums (tp430c) for $5.99 each plus shipping. Looks to be a decent deal.

I'm coming up on my first plug change. Is the dealer the only source for these? Anyone find a discount source?
