  1. How important is putting the "Mechanic tool" in the cam chain tensioner to check valve clearance? What's the purpose? The cover bolts took a 14" bar to break loose. This thing makes me appreciate the very infrequent check, and also the simplicity of my GS, that I can do roadside.

    Voltmeter

i'd like to put in a compass -- oh wait, i no longer care where i'm going. Maybe a temp gauge so i can tell how much i'm freezing in degrees celsius.
  3. Well i guess I'll add that bit of business to my list of things to do to the bird this winter.

  6. Oil is cheap, keep adding and you won't ever need to change it. park it over something to soak up the drips.
  7. Really helps to have the tool made to grab the wire boot at the plug to pull it off.
  8. When it's really cold. Ok you get my Jack photo again just as a reminder Zero lives down South man! And your jack is full of water! That's what's freezing. Still my favorite wiskey. True that it's the water freezing and not the alcohol , just shows how much very expensive water you are buying when you buy whisky. Straight alky doesn't freeze till it gets really cold. And that's a good thing to remember when you have been out drinking, have some cheap vodka with you, your radiator needs more fluid, and it's going to freeze, and you don't have any glycol.

  10. I've have one on my bird as well. What I settled on is a bar oil for chainsaws, seems to work well but I'm still experimenting. What I have noted is that chain adjustments have greatly reduced, I think one in the last 12-15K. Makes a mess of the polished rim after 3-400 miles though. Currently + - 35K on this chain with lots of miles left. I have cut the chainsaw oil with solvent when it gets cold to make it flow better. That reminds me, I need to get the valves set this winter, probably not Monday, headed for -18
  11. Thank goodness it doesn't do what the old Honda 350's did. I'm guessing I bored and installed new pistons in 150 of those. If the petcock was not shut off, often the carb floats would stick and drain the tank into the oil. Not many miles into the next ride the pistons would seize. Kept me very busy for a few years
  12. New,, anyone need one? Want one? will post Pix if needed

    PC II help

Ditto on the old thread. I have a 99 that I will be going thru this winter, valve adj. throttle body sync, new plugs. Front fork rebuild. Various additions. Does not idle smooth now, throttle bodies I think. Does have a PCll with yosh slip ons. 54K All I have is Macs but my son has others and there is a pc guru local. Could use a map? It was on a dyno a few years ago, 145hp but they didn't correct the idle. Love that bike Any shims available?
  14. I have wondered about getting a compass / temp out of a cage mirror and fitting it in a bike mirror. They must be available in a salvage yard. Then when I can't remember where I was going I'll at least know what direction I'm headed.

    stator ?

And switch to HID's for much better light and less draw.
  16. Just another perspective Just for today there were 30 harleys listed on the local craigslist. Town of 35k And an 07 busa stock with low miles for 3k
  17. For some maybe, when I had a shop in the 80's one came in for a tune-up. Did that and out for a test ride the thing was a dog till it hit mid rpm and the front wheel came off the ground, like a light switch. First three gears as I recall, not fun in traffic. Flexi-flyers we called them.
  18. I bought it for a song, installed it on a norton 750, rode cross country, wore the bike out, installed it on a 750 BMW, traded that for a dirt bike and regret it still. http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/vetter_fairings/Series1000.html
  19. Do I remember correctly that this won't fit with beetle bags? If it will I'll take it.
  20. The problem with oil in this country is that it's out west and no one is checking on it cause all the dipsticks are back in Washington.
  21. best bought oem or does someone else have them?
  22. Don'cha just love oil threads. This reminds me of a neighbor back in the 60's. He would buy a new Ford, drive it till 100k and trade it. Changed the oil at 50K. So from a purely technical standpoint, with modern oil, hi efficiency filters, why change oil so often? What's the worse that could happen?

no, verify compression, verify spark, verify fuel, verify timing, only thing left is clean spark plug
  24. the two pole SAE is definitely the way to go. I have them on all my powered equipment except the lawnmower and that is getting one this year. Hey, it's Montana, it sometimes snows in August, heated gear on the mower, yup.
  25. Too far but there is a red one with 30k on it in Helena Mt. on craigslist $4k
