  1. I did email cbrbearing.com and got an very quick response (like 4hrs). They are temporarily out of stock, but I am on a back-order list for when the new ones come in. The kit includes both bearings, races, bottom dust seal and a price of $54. When I get the kit and get it put in, I'll let you all know how hard or easy it was.
  2. I know this topic has been discussed (and cussed), and I did a search through the old topics about steeing head bearing replacement, but didn't actually find where anyone had replaced the steering head bearings. I am wanting to (a) do this job myself if I don't need any specialized tools and ( replace the OEMs with the tapered type roller bearings. I have recently developed a front end noise that sounds like the steering head bearings "clicking" when the bike is ridden. In fact, if I am just sitting still and grab the front brake lever (so that the bike cannot roll), I can slightly compress the front forks or kind of move the bike from side to side and I hear the clicking sound. I am going to jack up the front end and see if there is some movement in the steering head area, because I really don't think that the sound is coming from the front forks.
  3. I've had a Cheetah SST (Dark or smoke) on mine for 1 1/2 years now. I really like the looks of it, but as far as improvement over the stock shield, there ain't much. If you're buying it for wind protection, save your $19.95 and pick up a bargain at K-Mart during a blue light special. If you're buying for looks, go for it.

    Tires

Dave, You must have gotten a "test" tire or something. I got 6500 out of my Avon 36 and I did probably half of that with Kathy on the back. The Avon 46 is suppose to give even more distance. You obviously got a test tire or ???? I've got a little over 3K on mine and the tires are not even close to half worn. If it's strictly mileage that you want, make sure that you get a touring tire of some sort.
  5. Nik, the shake could be the reuslt of your Silver bike being in the presence of TWO Black XX's today. Maybe now that you are back home in Brew city, you'll be OK.
  6. Looks like you've already got some good advice, so I'll add something from another perspective: I've got socks older than that and Joe has got underwear older than that! Don't ask me how I know, I just do. Just kiddin Joe, I'm sure that they aren't a day over 30
  7. Can you say re-chargable batteries? or is it some oddball size that you can't get rechargables for?
  8. Don, maybe it's because you use to type in all CAPS and they thought that everything you did was on a big scale.
  9. Thanks for the offer Carlos. I'm pretty happy with the 16kg spring, as I only weigh approx. 185 lbs. and it works for me.
  10. Don, I've got almost 3500 miles on my 45/46s and they are not half way done yet. Although, the edges are a little bubbly and worn, thanks to 1600 miles of tearing it up on the seXXt and Hoot rides. At this rate (back in Illinois where the roads are straight), I should be looking at 7 to 8K miles with no problems. To me, they are the best tires that I've had so far, both from a mileage and traction standpoint.
  11. Uh, do you mean the right side lower?....That's where mine is!!
  12. I'm almost sure that when he reads it, he will be embarrassed. He's such a shy guy.
  13. Has DBLXX been coming up and riding pillion with you?????? J/K, had to give you some grief since I almost never see you on the forum anymore.
  14. Since Joe is going to post pics and a "how to" I'll just say one thing. You can definitely do it yourself.
  15. XX...vibration??????? Not on mine!!!. Without a doubt, the smoothest bike that I've ever owned. Seriously!!!
  16. The set of Avon 35/36s that I had on mine until I replace them with the 45/46 combo lasted 6500 miles, and half of that was two up with my wife on the back. Granted, she only weights about 110lbs, soaking wet, and 120 or so with gear, they still gave me respectable mileage, I thought
  17. Hello Kevin and welcome to the forum. It's nice to see someone in the St. Louis area join the forum. I'm in Jerseyville, IL (about 20 miles north of Alton). We'll have to get together and ride sometime in the twisties (Ride Illinois, 11 turns in 318 miles) The XX is an absolutely awesome bike and I'm sure that you will thoroughly enjoy it. Welcome

    RAM GPS mount.

Here is another prespective on mounting the RAM GPS mount:
  19. Well, since 99% of my riding is done in the DRY,.....that works for me! When I do get caught in the rain, I do the prudent thing...I slow down.
  20. I couldn't actually notice any difference between the two brothers pipes that I had on the bike when I replaced them with MIGs, but after adding the PCII, there was a noticable difference. Not much help, I know, but truly you need the PCII to be able to utilize the MIGs in the most efficient way (i.e. Horsepower).
  21. Crystal Glo! It goes on easy and comes off easy, leaves a spectacular shine.
  22. After a week and a few days at the seXXt and the Hoot, I've got one thing to say about the Avons. They Fucking Stick, Stick, Stick
  23. ScubaJohn, I checked out their website too, and it appears that the roadhazard warranty might only be for our counterparts that are across the big pond. It also talks about a "certificate" being issued after installation of the tire (or tyre) for our counterparts. Hopefully Avon will offer the same thing to us, here in the good ole USA. Although the first millimeter is not much mileage, it better than a hot poker in the eye.....
  24. Tim, I say that you should go down one tooth on the front sprocket. Why?? Because you are still going to beat Jerry's ass on the Beemer and you will be able to wheelie like crazy. BMW= Bike Mighty Wimpy J/K Jerry....some guys like to go slow
