  1. I usually throw 89 in all three bikes ( Shadow, Magna, Bird ) even though the sticker on the bird says to use 91...
  2. I'd call the dealer and ask how much oil a CBR1000XX should have in it. Then, when they tell you the answer I'd ask to speak to a manager and raise hell personally. If I had just spent $7000 (im assuming) I would damm well expect them to make sure there is oil in the damm thing. I sure hope you didn't ride it far, that little oil certainly isnt good for the engine. At the least I'd have them come tow it from your house to their shop and inspect the engine now that they fucked up. Or I'd raise hell and have them take the bike back or discount you something fierce. Mabye even take a credit in the parts department or a letter in writing stating if anything is found to be damaged as a result of the low oil in the future that they cover all parts and labor. The bird is one hell of an engine, strong as a bull - but running it on 1 quart of oil is almost suicidal. If it were me, Monday morning would be ass kicking time at the dealership...
  3. Nik You're Freakin Hilarious - :devilnangel: :poke: You know you're NEVER going to live this down...
  4. Need any help with your oil change give me a call. HAHAHAHAHAHA.. I literrally started laughing out loud when I read this. I love you Nik! :poke:
  5. Ya, listen to Nik. Muscle it... ... then strip the thread #-o .....then use an oversized bolt ......then have the oversized bolt crack the housing #-o .......then come on the forums so we can make fun of you ........then almost break something else trying to fix something else #-o .........then come back on the forums so we can make more fun of you ..........then let the thread die before your ego gets hurt anymore. This is all hypothetical
  6. +3 on the ground. If its got a funky ground connection all kinds of weird shit starts to happen. Hell, in my car when it had a bad ground each one of my popup headlights would randomly start going up and down. It was really freaky - very scary...
  7. I know carb cleaner will peel paint right off a car, I'm not sure if its really safe to use on chrome.

    Tools

Zep 45 is great stuff. Always seemed to work better than WD40 for me - however its a real pain in the ass to find. I usually end up buying a box of 12 cans online to stock the garage with.
  9. .. did you say Arizona Motorsports? :pistols: :bitchslap:
  10. I replaced mine at 18k when I got the bike - they looked like new when I removed them but since I was jett'ing the carbs it was easiest just to replace the plugs then rather than do it later.
  11. I emailed the dude. I wonder if this guy will be as bad as the other guy who told me to screw off when I mentioned the CBR1100XX didn't have a clutch cable
  12. Wow, thats crazy. Again, imagine what that would have been like had it hit a caliper.
  13. I realaly didnt think I liked the tinted turn signals until I saw those two pictures. Very sleek looking.

    Carb Sync

    I sync'd the birds carbs after I jett'd it. I've got a Carbtune II (http://www.carbtune.com/)
  15. Heh, I emailed the guy asking about it. I'll be curious to see his response
  16. I was just looking for one of those! Thanks!
  17. Just replace it.. after all, a battery is cheaper than a tow when you're stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere
  18. Its weird because it only does it when its warm ( needle half way on the temp gauge ) and never when it's cold. I havent been on the bird in two weeks however, its been too cold and rainy here in AZ. I sync'd the carbs as close as I could get them, I adjusted them for a good 30 minutes trying to get them as close as can be, but I have a feeling theyre still a little off. Mabye thats it...
  19. I jet'd the bird immediateley after I bought it to get rid of the flat spot. Frankly it was so flat that it would throw me fowards, and then take off like a bat out of hell and nearly throw me off the bike. Having jet'd the Magna I knew what an amazing difference it made, so I did the same for the bird. It revs from 0 to redline without a single pause or studder and is remarkably smooth. So, I'd jet it - but thats IMHO
  20. The smell is resolved, it was the battery dying as a result of the R/R that failed. As for the 'knock' its still there when the bike get warm. I've always run 91 octane fuel in the bird, so it's not the fuel. As for the noise, pulling the clutch lever in releives the typical clutch plate rattle but not this knocking sound. If you rev the engine up it seems to go away almost immediately, it doesnt get louder or faster when revs. Of course, its diffucult to hear it when the engine is revving. Hope that narrows it down...
  21. Well, I can only hear the knock when the bike is sitting (ie at the stop light) because god knows the bike is too loud when its running for me to hear it! But it dosent get louder when you rev it up if thats what you're asking.
  22. I haven't taken a real indepth look in to finding the noise yet but I will this weekend. As for the smell, I acutally didn't even put two and two together, but after my battery died and I replaced the R/R the smell never came back... Guess that answers my question about what was stinking! I replaced the timing chain tensioner as soon as I bought the bike knowing it wasn't worth risking. I know the bike has had a relatively hard life before I owned it, the guy I bought it from would brag about he "stood it up" and would "kick the shit outta dem Busa's". So, yes the bike had been ridden hard there is no doubt about that. But it being a Honda and myself not finding anything that really worried me I was confident with the buy, and still am. Again, its not loud enough that it worries me and you can barely feel it through the pegs. It's not like the engine is knocking, and as someone said before it may just be "one of those noises". I'll take a more indepth look this weekend, but I was out on it tonight and she was riding great like always.
  23. No, the bike is always indoors. It's possible its the fuel, I'll try a different gas station from now on and see if that makes a difference. Any ideas on the knock?
  24. Ok, two entirely seperate issues but I figure i'd just post them in one thread and save some time. Everything on the bike has been great except two things. 1. Every now and then when I go for a ride and stop I'll notice it smells like rotten eggs, like that disgusting sewer smell you smell now and then. Well, its comming from the bike. I can't tell where from, or what the hell it could be - but it comes and goes. Sometimes you'll take it out and it stays with you the entire ride, sometimes it dosent. At first I thought it was just where I was riding, but after I parked the bike in the garage and came back and the entire garage smelled like it I knew it had ot be the bike. So.. ideas? 2. The engine is making a knocking noise when its warm. Its hard to describe, and I acutally posted a while back asking what it could be and most of you said the clutch plates. Indeed they do make a rattle, but this it not that. It only does it when the engine is warm ( needle little less than half way ) it makes a knocking sound. Almost sounds like a cam knock. It's not very loud, but if you know what the bike sounds like when its cold and warm you'll hear it, but to the average person you might not notice it. You can feel the vibration in the footpegs a little too. Not sure what it could be, but as soon as you take off and the engine cools down it goes away entirely. I'm not too worried about it, but I would like to figure out what it is. Ideas?
  25. I picked up my replacement R/R from Bob's Used Motorcycle Parts in Phoenix. http://www.dexonline.com/servlet/ActionSer...esultForm=BASIC Cost me $75 I believe for the R/R. They've got a ton of bike parts, just about everything I could ever imagine. Great guys too, very helpful.
