  1. I just read the replies and herein lies my concern. Abrasive cleaner. I posted this as an alternative to "Mothers" "Softscrub" and all the other cleaning stuff, including "Magic erasure" from Arm & Hammer. I like the original scratches from polishing and didn't want to change them. The pipes are stainless steel and are not coated. The acting agent, methylin-chloride is a solvent and won't harm steel, but paint finish is another story. I sprayed the carb cleaner on a rag, then applied it to my pipes to watch the funk just disappear. I then proceeded to the rest of the stainless and trust me, they look like new. To each his own I guess, but this method won't scratch your pipes and they look absolutely new. Try it, I double dog dare ya!
  2. Was trying to think of a way to get the carbon off the ends of my pipes without abrasive. I tried Carb Cleaner and it's AMAZING!! They look new with minimal effort. Maybe this is old news for some, but every 'bird I've seen has the same deposits on the mufflers and it looks bad. I've had mine for 2 years and they were getting pretty bad. Make shure and avoid overspray as it might damage the finish. Hope this helps someone as it shure looks nice.
  3. Uhm, just a word here. Unless you are wrapping used rubber around your rims, and the guys at the shop say, "DAAAAAAMN!!!" when you ride in, ya might wanna leave it stock and learn to ride it first. I can still keep up and/or pass everyone I ride with on my 'Bird with stock suspension and Dunlops. All this info is for either professional riders, or wannabees. As long as the head isn't shaking or some otherwise unsafe condition, take note that people whom ride faster than you or me set it up from the factory. Your milage may vary. Carry on..
  4. Hey Dudes. Was thinking of installing a set of backlit indiglo guage faces on the 'bird as I fear that she might be getting concerned that we're not spending enough time together lately. Any advice on these as far as installation, longevity, where to buy, etc.? Thanks in advance, Tracy
  5. Thanks demon, I'll give that a try tomorrow. It has been sitting for a couple weeks.
  6. While riding to work today, came up on slow moving traffic, left it in 6th cruising at about 50-55. Suddenly the engine stumbled like I hit the kill switch for just an instant and my FI light came on. Idle was fine, so I shut it off, restarted it, and all seemed fine. It ran great while I was in-it, but as soon as I ran just off idle in a tall gear, it would skip, act weird, and FI light came back on. TPS? It's a 1999 with 20,000 on the clock. Any suggestions? I was wondering also if the TPS is servicable (take it apart and clean it). Thx all
  7. DUDE!!!! I just saved enough money on one filter to buy a 12 pack!!! Hey, that's a free 12 pack every 3000 miles, let's get riding!!!!
  8. Was just wondering Redbird, was that a typical " Outside-in" plug, or a "Break-it-down-mushroom style" plug? I put the 190-120 set of bridgestone's on my bike,(from my post) and found out one had a very small leak. I took it back to the shop, and I broke it down with their changer, "honed" out the hole, applied some vulcanising glue, pulled it through, then used a roller to adhere the patch part of the mushroom after scraping that part clean beforehand. Done this a bunch of times, but y'all are making me question the integrity of my fix. I rarely stay in it over one hundred, but the combined weight of me and my girl is at about 240lbs, I'm 155, she's 95. I've never seen one go, but the math that Stretch points out is making me "think about it" every time I ride. Anyone else ever had one of these style patches let loose?
  9. Howdy from Kentucky, Y'all, Got a friend at the local Honda dealer (I used to work there) and has a set of zero mile take-offs from a Suzuki for $100.00. Problem is they are Bridgestone 120/70 in the front, and 190/50 in the back. Will they fit, and if so, will they cause any negative handling effects? I ride it hard, but not extremely so, and this seams too good to pass up, even if I only buy them and sell the rear on eBay. Whadda ya think?
  10. Nope, NY state, and I turned him in to eBay. All I got was a small TY note, and a questionaire on how they can better serve me. I told them to offer a reward, but haven't gotten a reply. :???: By the way, did you used to hang out at the BBS Phalanx?
  11. Yep, still no return Email. Guess they think I'll just paypal the full amount and sit around with my thumb up my butt waiting for a truck. Still a pretty bike though......
  12. Just got off eBay, still no tank  But I did see something awesome. A 2000 Titanium in NY state, polished wls, vfr800 bars, etc. Perfect with 7900 miles for $2900 ending tomorrow afternoon.....SWEEEEEEEET!!!
  13. Well Rock, I'm kinda looking for a cheap tank, but all I have found lately are the 97-98 ones. Trying a new job, so my funds are quite limited and I bought a theft recovery bike. I recieved a pm from a member with one with only one small dent and no paint damage. Maybe I'll get that one, fill it with dried peas, then add water and let it set over night. Whadda ya think? Still no word on my canisters if they are all the same or not though. THX for the info!!
  14. Hey dudes, I would like to know if the fuel tank from a 97-98 XX can be adapted to a 99-04 model. I know the newer tank is 2 litres larger, but will the fuel pump adapt and can I make it work as I keep finding the early tanks, but none for the FI bikes. Oh, and are the stock cans all the same from 97 to 04? Thanks Fellahs! :headscratch:
