  1. I like Crystal Glow, but it's a pain in the ass to get since there are no local suppliers in my area. It is easy to order, but I tend to procrastinate until I need something. Then I'm too impatient to wait for the delivery.
  2. Hey Chris, Good to see you posting again. I was wondering where you've been. No problems I hope.
  3. Choke Cable??? We don't need no Steenkin' Choke Cable!!! (FI XX's rule)

    Is it CCT?

Hi Kenu, My bike is an '00 XX too. It rattled around 3500-4500 rpm until I replaced the CCT. They are inexpensive and only take a few minutes to install. I used the original equipment replacement, but I understand the CCT from an X-11 is superior.
  5. TC, You might also consider one of the Penske flavors. Traxxion Dynamics and others offer at least three levels. The most basic is probably more than adequate for the XX. The basic Penske is also quite a bit less expensive than the Ohlins.
  6. You might check out CycleBrakes.com. There's contact info in the Vendors section.

    Red FI Light

I had the same intermittent FI light problem. I cleaned the chassis ground(a bundle of green wires on the left side under the seat), cleaned and tightened my battery ground, and R&R'ed the ECU plugs. I didn't find any noticable corrosion anywhere, but my battery ground may have been a little loose. The light is functioning normally now and has been for several weeks. I hope this fixed the problem because the next place to look will be the harness. I think the 2001 has an "improved" wiring harness that elimates one of the potential trouble spots on the '99 and '00 models. Maybe you will just find a loose or corroded connection somewhere.
  8. I bought a used Penske 8981 with rebound and compression damping adjustments. I can't believe the difference between this great shock and the stock unit. Several other guys have the Ohlins and seem to like them. I haven't seen the Ohlins units, but I understand the Penske is more substantial and is better built.
  9. Colin, I had similar questions before I bought the Galfer lines. The front line kit completely replaces the stock front brake plumbing. The kit consists of two lines that run from the master cylinder to the respective brake calipers. It includes the appropriate banjo bolts and sealing washers.

    ENGINE VIBRATION

I rode a K1200RS the other day and was shocked at how much more it vibrated than my XX. It really seemed like a POS compared to the XX.
  11. Has anyone noticed increased pressure on their hands and arms after shimming the rear shock? I lengthened my Penske about a quarter inch. Now, the rear tire barely touches the pavement with the bike on the center stand. It may just be my imagination, but it seems like this puts more load on my hands and arms.
  12. Several of us have had the same experience. The left outside pad was down to the metal on my bike and the other pads had half their life remaining.
  13. I bought a Pyramid hugger and Fenda Extenda from Street Fighters by Design. I'm happy with both products and David Cork is a good guy to deal with.
  14. I've used a plug kit from Wal-Mart.
  15. Have you tried starting it with the clutch lever pulled in? Mine is a little noisy on a cold start sometimes, but the noise stops when the clutch lever is pulled. The noise stops after a few seconds and I don't worry about it.
  16. I bought a pair of SIDI Champion Tepor's from New Enough. They are plain black with reinforcement in the appropriate places. You can wear them like regular boots and they are very comfortable. I love them so far.

    bar end removal...

You might try an impact driver. If you haven't seen one, it's not a pneumatic device. It's a handheld device that one hits with a hammer. The hammer blow forces the bit into the screw, turns the driver and breaks the screw loose.
  18. The NGK platinum plug is CR9EHVX-9, (AKA stock number 3872.) Our local O'Reily's Auto Parts stores sell these plugs for $5.39.
  19. Who installed and balanced your tires RC? I'm planning on getting a set of 45/46's online and I need to find a place to get them installed.
  20. There was a post on one of the old lists where a guy installed a real cruise control on his XX. I think it may have been an Audiovox from RadioShack that cost about $100. Is the installer still on the forum? If I remember right the installation was pretty straightforward. A real cruise control for $100 and a little work sounds a whole lot better than a $135 ThrottleMeister.
  21. I noticed a couple of instrument cluster rubber mount washers when I had my windshield off. There was a lot of slop in them and the inst. cluster rattled when I went over bumps. I found a couple of rubber washers and added them to the mount bolts. You can get to these bolts by simply removing the windshield. It was an easy fix and the rattle stopped. Mine's a '00 XX.
  22. I do NOT thank both of you!!
  23. You use the original grab rail with the Renntec. I'll try to borrow a digital camera and post some pics, but I think Northman and others have pics posted somewhere.
  24. Hey Chad, How are the ceramic coated headers working out? Are you still happy with them? Any pro's or con's you could share with the group?
  25. I ordered my Galfer parts from Cycle Brakes. I think they have two or three pad material compositions. I chose the black because it is reported to be similar to stock performance with long rotor wear. Also, Carlos recommended these pads highly. There's a link to them in the vendors section.
