  1. But in 21 years he will have to replace it.
  2. Yes I had seen that, and it will be a guide. Great pictures, Thanks. I do have a manual, I guess I could read it. From the pictures it looks like to remove the cams, you must relieve the tension on the cam chain, make sure you mark the position of the cam, then carefully remove the bearing caps and keep track of where they came from. Then the shims are under the buckets. Are those the basic steps? When I get home I will look at the manual.
  3. Very sweet deal. I have lucked out there sometimes too. The current flyer has it on sale at $278, maybe they would apply the 15% to that. Anyone still have the coupon? I am in the same boat as you and Chris. I need to check mine, I am at around 36K. I called Everett Honda and they $308 in labor and $70 in parts for the valve cover gasket and o-rings. That was the cost even if the gaps were OK. Gervisi's in Everett said it is a 3.5 hour job and quoted roughly $280. Their rate is $76 bucks an hour. Gervisi's will let me bring my bike in stripped and will reduce the labor cost some. But the last time I took my VF700F to them, the cost did inflate a bit. I have replaced shims on my old ZX11, but I am a bit freaked out about taking the cams out of the Bird. I was thinking I would strip it, check the clearances, and if needed have the shop replace the shims? You guys can tell me how difficult it is to take the cams out. Take good notes. Oh, and it would be nice if I was able to go home once in a while to do this. I am swamped at work.
  4. Sorry I don't have any parts to sell, but I do have a suggestion. I had my forks done by GPSuspension.com . They offer a valving kit that really improves the forks. I don't know how it compares to Traxxion. The ride is much more controlled now. It was a huge difference from stock. Dave is a great guy to work with too.
  5. Wow, Mike needs to raise his price to at least $1000 to compete with these deals. I have a Lumina like Mike's that may be worth more than I thought. I think it needs a fuel pump though. Good luck on finding something Joe.
  6. Ventura Aero Spada and Delta bags for sale. I found this on the Seattle Craigslist and bought the black Aero Delta lV bag. The seller is good to deal with and will ship. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/480161134.html
  7. I assume this is for an '03? If it would work for my '99 I am interested.
  8. I got mine last week too. Very good quality machining. I thought I would try this method out instead of my Buell pegs. But do you think I could find my stock pegs in my garage? DOH!!! I'll keep looking.
  9. Yes you will need 3 sets of EBC FA261HH A great place to get them is: http://www.whitebuffaloracing.com/
  10. +1 I really like Whitebuffaloracing.com. They always have great prices, ship items quickly and are helpful on the phone. This afternoon I ordered some EBC HH pads. Called to find out they had the pads in stock and would get them sent out today! This is better than ordering something on a website, pay an extra handling charge, and wait a couple days just to process the order, like other websites do. I'll probably order my chain and sprockets from them next. http://www.whitebuffaloracing.com/

    Rear shock

I bought a Ohlins shock from Jred. He had it on his '97. I fit fine on my '99. I think the only difference between the years is how you mount the reservoir. I mounted it on mine the same way Jred did on his '97. It is the best mod so far. It really makes the bike a joy to ride.
  12. Nothing to add, but I would try the seafoam too. When my daughter was a toddler I noticed her putting small pebbles in the exhaust pipe of my V45 Sabre. It was parked outside under a carport. I made sure she was out of the way and started it up. It shot the pebbles about 10ft into my metal shed. Ping, ping ping.... I also used to find legos and blocks in my boots.
  13. +1 I did put some electrical tape, but I don't think I needed to. I want to get a better, marine, waterproof switch though. The switch that is supplied is fine, but where I have it mounted to my handlebars gets bumped by my tank bag when fueling. When it is 90F out, I do not need grip heaters. :icon_duh:

    Avon Scare

You will probably talk to Keith when you call the North American 1-880 number on Avon's website. He was very helpful to me and replaced my tire that had some strange wear.
  15. And just a tip on front sprockets. I bought an AFAM that works fine, but I wish I had bought the stock Honda front sprocket. It comes with dampening material attached that reduces chain noise a bit.
  16. I just balanced my rear Pilot Road with the "MARCPARNES" unit. I did have to use my own jack stands with it. At first I was thinking I had spent too much money on a steel shaft. (shafted, get it) But as I used it I was blown away by how smooth the bearings were. You can really balance the tire accurately with it. Maybe it is the tire, but man is the ride smooth now. I think when most shops balance a tire, they just get close, they don't take the time to get it perfect.
  17. How difficult was that? I have changed fork seals on dirt bikes, my V45 Sabre and ZX11. So I have had forks apart and put back together correctly. I am considering the kit too. Was it easy or should I have Traxxion do it?
  18. My Acura Legend has plastic covers too. On the Legend forum they recommend the Meguiar's plastic polishes. They seem to work pretty good for me too. I bought a kit at there website, although I can't find it now. Meguiar's link
  19. + 1000 Medium Al, thank you so much for posting this. It even works for Ohlins shocks. I printed your directions out and took them out to the garage, followed them step by step. It really made the job a simple one. It probably took me about 2 hours. But I was dinking around getting the routing just right. I think it was the title that got my attention.
  20. I saw heli-coils locally at Tacoma Screw Products. No really.. http://www.tacomascrew.com/
  21. Yes the pan is the soft aluminum and drain plug is probably steel. But a heli-coil isn't that hard to do. You just have to drill the hole slightly larger to the outer size of the heli-coil, tap it, then screw the heli-coil into the threads. I guess I would worry about getting aluminum chips in the pan when drilling. I have used things called keenserts that are similar.
  22. And you had to brag right? :icon_wall: I called Mike today to order one and he said there could be up to a two week delay. :icon_snooty: Actually I thought it was Penske that got flooded.

    VFR Bars

Yes the internals should fit: http://www.throttlemeister.com/Honda.html I put barenders in my VFR bars that had been installed in XX bars. I like to use grip glue now, but used to use hairspray.
  24. Wow, I just use the two box end wrenches that came in the tool kit. I may have had to loosen the big nut once with another larger wrench. But at home and on the road my toolkit suffices for this job.
