N1K Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Anyone got a part number for an oil filter for the XX? I don't plan to go to the dealer, just to Walmart or something. Looking for a good brand and a part # Quote
Guest rockmeupto125 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 If nobody gets to it before then, I'll check the stack in the garage for a number first thing in the morning. Quote
Iceman_40 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 http://cbr.geckobox.net/forum/viewtopic.ph...ight=oil+filter Yamaha: 3FV-13440-00 Perf-Form: J-503 Emgo: 10-82232 FRAM: PH6017A K&N: KN-303 Purolator: ML16817 The yamaha is dirt cheep up here, they put it on everything. Looks identical to honda one down to the labels... different brand name but everything else is the same. Quote
Hobicus Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I've got a stack of factory ones in the garage... 15410-MM9-013 You need one, Nik? Quote
Pete in PA Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Or for THE BEST, Purolator Pure 1, part #PL14612 at Advance Auto, Costs less than a Honda filter. Quote
The Krypt Keeper Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 What about WIX filters. Guy comes to my work for parts we need, He can get Wix filters for Damn near anything pretty cheap also. WIX worth a damn or just move along? :?: Quote
bartonmd Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 WIX is actually supposed to be one of the best filters going... Very similar in first pass effeciency to the Pure 1, but I know the filter for my Nighthawk didn't have as much media surface area as some other filters, so I guess I'd change it more often... matey_peeps Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Let's not forget about the Hastings LF113. IIRC, it takes the same filter as a Mazda 6...and my KTM for that matter. Quote
GriffXX Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Or for THE BEST, Purolator Pure 1, part #PL14612 at Advance Auto,Costs less than a Honda filter. Ditto Pete. The Pure One I think has been rated as the best out there in several publications. I think either Carlos or Dale first sent the word out around here. Then again if you are using WD40 or cooking oil, you probably don't beed no stinking filter. Quote
Warp11XX Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I've been told that Hastings makes most of the NAPA line of filters. Supposed to be pretty good. Also been told to avoid Fram...no personal experience there to confirm or deny. Fram is said to apply the "domination of market by flooding and cutthroat pricing" theory...filters are questionable and poor quality control. Quote
porterb123 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 O'Reillys sells the WIX filter and can even look it up for the Blackbird. Thats the one I use Quote
bhanxx Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Consumables.html There's a link to start some surfing Nik ... Lots of bike info on this site ... Quote
N1K Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 Thanks Guys, I wrote all those number down, I'm sure whatever store I go to will stock one of those... Now... what kind of oil should i use?   Quote
willxx23 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I used a STP [smo-17] on my last oil change. Mobil 1 15-50 gold cap for the oil. Quote
willxx23 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I thought 15-50 came with a red cap??? No more red cap But the gold cap has been great so far Quote
GriffXX Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I thought 15-50 came with a red cap??? You ought to hang around on the board a little more. You'd learn these things! you might even get that post count up a little! Quote
ZeeBeast Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 GatDammit! Well, I can tell you that the PL 14459, which I thought was the RX7/XX application is about a quarter-inch too long to clear the Akra header! Thanks for posting the numbers for Pure 1. I have a lot more faith in Puralator than in Fram. 8) Quote
Pete in PA Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 There is a # for a longer purolator, but it won't even clear my stock headers. Got to use PL 14612. Quote
51'er Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Walmart for an oil filter? No thanks. I'll stick with my dealer. I just picked up a 4-liter jug of motul5100 and an OEM filter for $24.15. That puts the filter at $6.89 and I know it's specifically designed for my motorcycle. Quote

You know my previous oil change I went with the Wal-mart filter and had no problems but after looking at it compared to the STP filter I noticed the Wal-Mart filter had about half as many holes in the bottom of the filter. :? I kinda wonder if this would restrict flow in any direction? I think I'm gonna jsut go with a motorcyle filter from now on the cost just isn't that much more than the Wal-Mart filter's. Quote
LoneWolf Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Just changed oil and filter a few days ago, the (Pure One PL14612) will fit the XX fine, the PL14610 is a tad to long to fit. I have been running the PL14612 without problem and it seems to be as good if not better than the Mobil One at a few bucks less too. Quote

It will fit fine? Just because an oil filter "fits" an engine doesn't mean it was designed for it. Tell me how one aftermarket filter is better than another. Quote
