    I've avoided more accidents with my horn than my brakes. In driver's ed they teach you to "cover the brake" in certain situations, I've found that covering the horn is just as useful. When you see someone about to do something stupid, a quick tap of the horn usually gets their attention enough to correct them before shit gets out of hand.
  2. Yeah, stop doing that. Take a hard look in the mirror, decide you hate what you see enough to do something and change. What you're doing is a start, and possibly a good one, but until you take full responsibility for you, nothing will change long term.
  3. Weight Watchers or any other supervised program is not a recipe for long term success. Honest, no bullshit advice- you've lost weight before, so you've been to the place you need to be. You just have to learn how to live there for the rest of your life. Fuck a diet or a program, change the way you live or you'll be back here next year with the same thread. PS- The "on the road" excuse is bullshit. I was away from home for 5 days for RacerXX and I drank like a fish for 3 of them, I lost 2 pounds. Change how you live, wherever you are.

  5. FWIW and to further cloud the issue, my '01 did not have an o2 sensor, I know that for a fact. I don't believe 49 state 2002's did, either. CA bikes are a different story.

  7. Yes, which is why I suggested it. Float sticks closed but maybe a little fuel gets by and fills the bowl while it’s sitting...bike starts, drains the bowl, dies. Just a possibility, I hate carbs and troubleshooting them.
  8. It can stick open or closed, in this case I’d be guessing closed.
  9. New addition- It stands up and stores is less that a 2’ x 3’ space, so it’s not taking up all that space when not in use. Just did 40 minutes on it and this thing is going to kick my ass like an elliptical never could.
  10. That’s not my issue. After 30+ years of swinging a hammer I have some elbow issues. Going heavy on isolation exercises like curls can leave my elbows, especially my left, just about useless for days or even weeks if I push it too hard. Lifting has improved some joint issues I have, but I still have to be careful or I’ll be looking at extended time off.
  11. Nothing fancy here. Cage, bench, pull-up bar. I used to have a set of dumbbells similar to yours, Brett, but they all got sold once I picked up the Ironmaster adjustables. My father in law gave me the chrome plated ones (at the base of the mirror)when he moved to FL, they get used for lighter stuff. I rarely use the curl bench, it irritates my elbow if I use enough weight to accomplish anything. There used to be a TV above that desk, there’s a bicycle hanging there now. Elliptical is upstairs in the spare bedroom with a TV in front of it. Oh, and 500lbs. of rubber coated plates, another Craigslist score. Traded a guy straight up for plain iron plates, he apparently missed the clanking, LOL.
  12. Been doing pretty much the same thing here as last time I posted, albeit with about a 3.5 month break August-November. Been back at it pretty good since a little before Thanksgiving. I lift every other day alternating between legs/back and chest/shoulders. Cardio on most days in between. If I feel like a day off I'll skip a cardio every once in a while, but I try to do something every day, even if it's minor. Cardio is either the bike if the weather is semi-decent of the elliptical if it's not. Been spending a lot of time on the elliptical lately. All that said, my goals/priorities/methods have shifted considerably over the last 2-3 years. I don't go heavy anymore and stopped caring how much weight is on the bar as long as it's as much or a little more than the last time. As I get older it's become more about general fitness than getting huge or ripped, neither of which I had much success at even when I was younger, anyway. So lifting weights is now just one component of me trying to put off old age a little longer. Strength, cardio and flexibility all get attention now. edit- just read through this thread and realized my last two posts on the subject have said pretty much the exact same thing I said here. LOL.

    I'm 99% sure it won't be. Not because I've tried it, but because after most of two decades hanging out here I think I would have heard about by now it if it was. The forks pictured are undoubtedly riding in aftermarket or custom triple clamps...once you go that route, it opens up a lot of possibilities. You're going to find the aftermarket awfully lean when it comes to this bike and suspension upgrades. It was never hugely popular and it's now been out of production for a decade. The latest solution to the XX's suspension woes seems to be converting the entire front end over to ZX14 bits...it's a relatively straightforward process documented around here somewhere. The swingarm can be swapped for the ZX14 part as well, at least one guy has done it. If you want to spend serious money on high dollar components, perhaps convert and then look into the ZX14 aftermarket.

  16. The main hurdle to servicing the shock yourself will be the nitrogen purge when you're done, assuming you can get the PSI spec. It's usually a pretty specific number and not an easy target to hit without the correct equipment. There's also probably some proprietary tools involved, but shit like that can usually be worked around by creative types.
  17. Is the linkage OEM? I recall someone way back when having an issue with an adjustable link that involved a failing heim joint. If the linkage is OEM, my money is on the shock. I kinda lean towards the shock regardless, it being heat related and all. Who knows how old and nasty the oil in that thing is.
  18. I can't speak directly to swapping OEM carb & FI header, but I can say that when I mounted a carb Akropovic full system on my '01 it required modification of the lower radiator stay. It's been a while but if I remember correctly it had to be extended just a bit and given a bit of a bend to go around one of the pipes. It's a pretty simple thing, but knowing how to weld or having a friend who can will go a long way.
  19. Thinking about it, I'm not positive but I don't believe the CA bikes came with cats until '02. Dubbird, can you post a pic of your OEM cans? edit- do your cans look like this- or this- Fist pic is the converter equipped OEM muffler, second is no converter.
  20. Yep, but replacing the header while you're at it will definitely get you more improvement. It's been a long, long time since I shopped XX exhaust systems, but 4-1 full systems used to not be much more expensive that a set of slip-ons. You're just getting a header and one can instead of two cans.
  21. The catalytic converters are in the cans, more specifically the midpipe portion of the OEM slip on. Pretty sure the only difference in between CA and 49 state headers is the O2 sensor.
  22. The filter is inside the tank along with the pump. The tank has to come off to access either.
  23. Codes won't flash on startup unless you jump the plug back in the tail section. I forget the exact process off the top of my head but hopefully someone with a better memory or a manual will chime in. If it's not a bad ground (which is a good possibility), it might be worth checking the fuel pressure regulator. That doesn't explain your electrical symptoms but it might explain your surging. Throttle sensitivity, like Oscar said, get your weight off the bars and keep your arm and grip relaxed. Your arm should be absorbing shocks between your body and the throttle, not transferring them. Watch some off road or motocross racing and think how ugly that would get if they kept their throttle arm and hand rigid. Relax and that problem goes away.
  24. Pictures would be nice but I'm thinking any adjustable rearsets should easily be worth $35+ shipping. If I still had an XX I'd grab these just out of curiosity.
