Tire Repair Question

The rear tire, a Metzler M-3 with 300 miles went flat, a small 3/8" inch cut. Is it smart or safe to patch the tire and put a tube in it? I would not patch it and feel safe, but a patch to keep from pinching the tube could work. Flame away

No.

I've plugged a puncture before on a rear, but I wouldn't plug a cut. I also wouldn't feel right about reccomending someone else to do it.

You're a rich man, Steve. What are you thinking? Run up to Cycle Gear and have 'em slap a new one on that rim.

BTW, I need work. You want help installing crappers?

Thanks for all the replys, the reality check, and the difference between price and value. My insurance deductable and my hide are far more than the cost of a tire.

Good choice.

I picked up a nail on a D208 with less than 200 miles. Had it internal patched for the rest of my trip and changed out by 500 miles. I went so far as taking the old tire with me to keep the shop from selling my ALMOST NEW patched tire.

I've lost a front at speed, and it was scary. Can't imagine a rear failure that you can't steer.

No tubeless tires are approved to run a tube in. Especially sport bikes that generate a lot of heat and are rated for high speed. I guess it's a safety issue. I might try it to limp home until I could get a new tire, but never for the long run. :icon_hand:
