StPeteXX
One of the ridders in my group wasn't paying attention and grabbed the diesel pump at a fill up today. He didn't make it out of the parking lot before the engine stalled. He pushed it home (only a few blocks away). His machine is a 2002 600F4i. Any ideas or suggestions besides not to do that again? Thanks in advance. Rich StPeteXX
Northman
I agree with Joe here. You may also want to replace the fuel filter, and make sure you cycle the fuel system a few times with the fuel line off, draining into a tank. This will make sure the fuel pump and filter are completely flushed of the diesel. You could also cross the fuel pump relay, and run a partial tank of fuel through the lines. On a good note: Diesel is full of detergents, so the fuel system should be nice and clean now!
pace
Look on the bright side. Gasoline inadvertently dumped into a diesel motor is a more devastating proposition. -Pace
pace
Let's just say that as a teenager I had a job pumping gas, and leave it at that. -Pace
The XXorcist
because diesel uses compression to combust its fuel. Your bike may have 11 to 1 ratio.. where as a diesel will have 20 to 1 Diesel it rated at like 40 octane, where fuel is 87 to 93 or 94 We use about 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel every 3 weeks at work. Buddy of mine did this to his Gixxer 1000, I told him next time look at the handle. most diesel fuel nozzels are huge compared too gas ones.. Also gas and fuel smell different.. thats enough for me too know also.. Dave
Langly
After draining all the diesel and refilling with fresh gas, run a bottle of Techron FI cleaner through. The Techron can be had at Chevrons and Walmarts for $7 to $10. Been there done that. Ran out of gas a few months ago and had a knucklehead Suzuki SV650 rider bring me some diesel. SwampNut
Was this guy an MMI student by any chance?
Langly
No idea what he was smoking. I think he may have gotten the diesel from common hose station where they do unleaded and diesel from the same hose. Don't think he did it on purpose since he bought a gas can to get the gas. Just a mistake. Like me running out of gas. I need to start carrying a water bottle of gas. Or get a 5 GAL fuel cell. Ran out of gas into a headwind in Panhandle TX a few weeks ago while running a BBG. to ABQ. I was laughing alone on I-40. Luckily the cell phone worked. 1 reached out and touched the tow truck guy with gas. $20/GAL which I was very happy to pay. Actually he wanted $12.50 I gave $20.
