ra6hc
Hey everyone, I am new to the board (awesome site). I just got my 99' bird two weeks ago. The tires are shot so i will be getting new tires. I was looking into the michelin pilot sport HPX tires. Anyone have these? How are they? When the new tires are installed do they have to break in? How long until they can be pushed? Thanks

SwampNut
Avon AV49/AV50 BT010
XXFirefighter
BT010 ! OR the new Dunlops 208's I'd go BT010
Northman
Just beware of the 010's front tire life. It will cup like hell long before it's worn out, but sticks really nice. I'd go with the Avon's myself.
TrentXX
Mail ordered the Pilot Sport HPX's to replace the stock BT57s w/ 11K on them. Just a hair over 300.00 to my door from kneedraggers.com, took the wheels off and let cyclegear change and balance the tires for 14.99 ea. My confidence into turns has increased with the much stickier than stock HPX's. I slid the tires too many times to push the stockers too much but the mileage was great! I thought I would splurge on some fancy tires and try these out and they seem to be wearing very well. 750 miles so far. ... got 1200 miles on them now and they are wearing good. I still have a rubber whisker or two showing on the rear (offset 2 inches from center) This can only lead me to believe that the compound is hard enough to provide good wear. I have 3/8 chicken strips on the tire edges, so I am not the most aggresive rider. But I do ride hard and fast when appropriate and am surprised with the tire wear. I thought at first that the front end seemed more bouncy than with stock, but I am not so sure that it was the balance job done by the high school kid at Cycle gear. They removed my tire weights that were mounted on the center spine and replaced them with adhesive backed ones more toward the outside of the rim. I am not sure this is the best answer for balancing the XX. I only seemed to notice this at first during freeway riding and I dont notice it anymore so it might have just been that the new rubber was more elastic and gave me a different feedback than the old rubber. The tires look mean when new with the "alternate compound" stripe along the circumference the tire. It only shows in the grooves now but If I wipe off the tires I still like to see it there. They are clearly marked "made in Spain" so dont let that anti French stuff put you off. If hard working guys and gals are building quality product I dont see a need to put them out of work. (even if they do have hairy backs!) lol

I 2nd that, my 010 cupped in 1500-2000 miles. Not a good fit for the bird. fuzz

BDAZ XX
I am going to put a 180 HPX on tomorrow for the ride to Cody next month(lotsa twisties), I will test it this next week. You cant go wrong with Michlin! As far as breakin-Ride 100 miles on them progressively leaning more each time and you will be fine. Enjoy them because it'll make a believer out of you!
