  1. Mike, yes you will need two new exhaust gaskets. They are the cheapest at Ronayers.com. I had the Yosh Zyclone RS-3's on my ZX9R and did not like them (too quiet). I have the Yosh carbon race pipes (slip-ons) on my 03 Hayabusa and really like that sound. I also had the Scorpion stainless slip-ons on my 98 CBR1100 and thought they sounded good. It is a close call in my opinion. I think the Scorpions are a tad quieter. It depends on what you are looking for... Steve
  2. I recently put twin scorpion slip-ons on my 98. They looked great and fit well. My only "wish" was that they were a little louder. They still had a nice growl to them when gettin' on it. Just make sure you order new exhaust gaskets for them. The old ones usually stick inside the old pipes and don't come out easily. Scorpion doesn't include them. The Erion single pipe I had on my other XX was a lot louder. That was my favorite pipe for a Japanese bike. Used to have a Ducati with Arrow slip-ons. Those baby's would set off car alarms when downshifting from 2nd-1st gear.
  3. After looking at your pics, I had the exact same problem. I would try sending it back if I were you. I was unable to make mine align properly.
  4. I had the same issue with my pyramid hugger. I used a couple of washers for spacers on one side, but overall was not happy with the fit. I just left it that way. Talked to JAWS who I bought it from (good guy to deal with). He said they have some "issues" with them every once in awhile. He offered to take it back, but I said it was acceptable for now.
  5. Have you had the carbs synch'ed lately? Just an idea. I had mine done last year and it made a noticeable difference in the idle and initial throttle response.

    DECKS!

Nik, I posted the previous post. Here is a link to the company I used and the plans I used. I don't have any pics to post, but it came out better than I could have ever imagined. The plans they give you are top notch and the materials list is easy to use. Just make sure Home Depot goes by their list and doesn't try to make their own by mimicking the plans (they tried that with me and I ended up getting 30% more materials than I needed...i made them take it all back!) http://www.decksusa.com/plans/deck_design_1063.htm Steve

    exhaust

I ended up going with the dual Scorpion stainless slip-ons. The were a breeze to install and sound pretty good. Not too loud, but just right.

    HELP!!

I had the EXACT SAME issue two months ago. Gauges fluttered, then went out totally, then bike died 30 seconds later. Local Honda shop tried to tell me that it was a bad battery.....NOT! I had the same issue with a Ducati ST2. Ended up being the regulator. I had the Honda shop install a new regulator instead of changing the battery and problem has not re-occured.
  9. I have 6,100 miles on my D-220's and they are still in OK shape. I can easily get another 1000+ miles out of them. I am not an "aggressive" rider, but they have served me well; including wet weather riding. No complaints here.
  10. I installed a new set of Scorpion slip-ons yesterday and now both sides have an exhaust leak. They are leaking where the short pipe slips on over the stock header. I went to Auto Zone looking for some high temp silicone sealer (the manufacturer says I might need it), but all I could find was low temp stuff or stuff that worked like permanent glue. Any suggestions? Steve
  11. Hey, I know a lot of Harley guys who modify their stock exhaust. If it works for them, it should work for us...uh right?
  12. We were having a discussion at work today regarding the best way to dampen handle bar vibration. One of the guys has a new FJR1300 and has a bad shoulder so he wanted to remove as much vibration from the bars as possible. He already bought gel grips and bar end weights. He is next going to try and fill the bars with lead shot. Has anyone here tried this before? Any better suggestions?
  13. Nik & Tim, Can you please define "loud as Fuck"? Do they set off car alarms while driving through ritzy areas of town? Do they cause your buddies behind you to wince everytime you downshift? Do they make people's heads turn before they can see you? If the answer is yes, then that's what I'm looking for  I am assuming that you guys still have twin pipes and no jetting...?
  14. Bought a new (new to me) 98 with throttle meister installed. I installed new grips and now the locking part doesn't work so well. Called throttle meister today and explained my problem. They said they would send me a friction sleeve and some shims free of charge! I wasn't even the one who purchased the original product from them. That is great service. Their only stipulation was that I told a few friends...which I have now done
  15. Why are you getting rid of the Erion's again??? I think I read something about needing to jet the carbs... I do not want to mess with jetting either.
  16. Does anyone here have the scorpion slip-ons? If so, how do they sound?
  17. I have a '98 with the OEM exhaust. I am looking to upgrade to some slip-ons and I want to keep the factory header & centerstand. I have seen stainless Scorpions for $499. Is this a good deal? I used to have Yosh RS-3 zyclones on a previouos bike and they were too quiet. I am looking for something that has a "healthy" sound, but won't break the bank if you know what I mean.
  18. 2 weeks ago I used HRCA to arrange towing. My Bike had a slight electrical problem. They said a truck would be there in 2 hours (I was waiting at home...had to hitch hike.) 3.5 hrs later they sent a truck. The fuckstick had never tied down a sport bike before and was just going to strap one band across the seat and leave it at that! I had to go home and give hime 4 tie-downs and teach him how to secure a bike. Called the HRC and complained about the time (I could have found someone much faster) and about the ignorance of the truck driver. They acted like they were concerned, but that is the last I heard of it. I will never renew my membership because it is just not worth it...
  19. I have had the bike for only the past 16 months. I have no idea how old the battery is. I kept a charger on it intermittently last Winter. It starts strong every time and I try to ride it all year long. It is sitting at the Honda shop right now. It will be over a week before they even look at it. Good thing I have my 03 Goldwing to fall back on. Going w/o a bike during the Summer would suck :cycle:
  20. BigBoy, I used to have LED turn signals on a fender eliminator kit on my ZX-9. The manufacturer warned me that they will blink very fast. If I wanted to slow them down, they said I needed to install a heavy duty relay inline with the signals. I never did because I liked the higher flashing rate for night time visibility. Ask who you bought the signals from if they have any hardware (ie: a relay) to fix your issue.
  21. After 17,000 miles, I finally had an issue with my 97 bird. On the way home from work last night, I was using a turn signal to change lanes. When the signal light came on, the gauges started bouncing all over the place. I turned the signal off. The bike ran for about another 3 minutes then the engine just shut off. When the starter button was pressed, nothing happened. After it cooled down for an hour, it tried to crank over maybe twice, then nothing. I used to have a 98 Ducati ST2 that had the exact same issue (x3). It was the reg/rec. When it got hot, it would expand and touch the frame, which would short it to ground and cause the engine to cut off immediately. To make things worse, I used the Honda Riders Club to set up a tow. They told me two hours and "assured" me that the tow driver would be capable of towing a bike. 3.5 hours later some numbnuts shows up who has only had to tow Harleys (go figure). He only had two straps and was planning on using two small red shop towels to protect my fairing from the straps. I had to go home and grab two more tie downs and teach him how to properly secure a full fairing bike. It is getting towed to a local shop this morning. I am afraid of what this is going to cost me...
  22. Joe, you could drive down to my house in Richmond... :cycle: I have a spare now since I toasted my last ones using my civilian air defense lights!
  23. Wasn't there a post a few weeks ago about NOT putting 100W bulbs in? :poke: If you can, ohm out the harness and get somebody to wiggle the wires for you with the meter leads attached. It sounds like you may have a broken wire or a point where the insulation has broken down and it may be touching something it shouldn't. Steve (who had same problem 2 months ago...)
  24. I installed the 100W blue tinted bulbs and it melted the socket that it plugs into. I posted about this a couple of months ago and several people responded that they had the exact same problem. It may be the quality of the bulb, who knows...?
  25. Pete, I posted a similar problem about a month ago. I put in aftermarket bulbs (100W) and they melted the black plug that goes in between the bulb and the wiring harness. I tried another bulb and it went out after 5 minutes once the plug got hot again and "opened" the circuit. Not sure if this is related, but it is worth checking out. Steve
