  1. You don't so much "strap" on Venom as it possess you. "strap on" Plenty of Pa riders around. The XX has always been one of the smoothest throttled and smoothest shifting bikes imho. May want to get someone to look at it for you, shifting issues are a pita, luckily only oil negligence has effected mine in the past. Oh, and the bike EATS chains for snacks, so keep er lubed before you Strap-on... Sry couldnt resist, specially when it comes out of or goes in Aunt Sylvia's Mouth... On a side note, you should perhaps open a new thread or search old threads in the garage and Pub. If nothing else, theres some interesting reads... again, welcome.
  2. Is there a nut loose between the tank pad and rear seat? Welcome to the forum!
  3. average neighborhood speed is less than 45mph for a total of 199 curves in 6 miles. ONE stright away of about 100 yrds. Rains nearly daily. Im not sure ANY tires would warm in that time actually. I'm sure the pilots are okay, I just remember smokin down the wet roads in rain for year on a pair of diablos. Perhaps a mental thing, but with me... what isnt? Truth be told, the supermoto is the neighborhood weapon of choice.
  4. Shifting seems a lot better. Along with the new helmet, I happen to be traveling out of the neighborhood in better time and feeling good about it. I may soften the suspension a little for my tiny weight ass, and i don't really see me pushing her like i used to. The tires O goodness the tires. I do believe they NEVER get to operating temps when i need them the most. About 80% rain and 90% wet roads.... Diablos here I come..... And guys, when you are leaving hot springs or the 'rattler', please be aware the surrounding thru roads arent quite the same.. I cringe watching bikes crest the hills outside my hood, in the wrong lane. Perhaps if they KNEW a salvage yard or 3, a few county dumps, and slow moving vehicles were just the other side. So please, be aware that sometimes we forget to modify our speeds as we enter into residential and unknown areas.... Ps... it aint cuz i give a rats ass about you, i dont want you hitting ME, or my wife.... thanks!
  5. From the background, it looks like bum-fuck North Carolina. Between Marshall and Hot Springs, NC . you are correct..
  6. Honda Gn4 or some crap in her now. I'll report back before next oil change when i know if the shifting issue was fixed.
  7. bumpity bump. car now includes new interior handle installed, since the old came off in my hand when i did the weekly warming.... $2k final offer. Oops, removed the chevette pics before i realized itd been commented on. Poor form, my apologies.... You guys arent crazy, there really was a chevette picture here...
  8. If the bike doesnt behave oddly when this occurs, could it just be the cluster circuit? For the effort you've put it, perhaps paying to "borrow" a working cluster, would save some time/money in diagnostics alone. Unless your time is of no value, then piss on it... RIDE FASTER, broken speedo is a mild 'get out of jail free; token. I'll drag out my book today and see if i have any usefull suggestions.
  9. 2000+ miles at sustained 90mph was why it was changed. Changed to Valvoline cuz i have about 8 gallons of it here and didnt make a shit of diff in my old 97. Peg lowers cuz im 6'3" and dont forget, blue gauges cuz indiglo is da shit Only thing left is to repair a cpla worn throttle cables and drop it in the street...
  10. The heat is probably just due to slight differences in air routing. The bike is running a LOT more fuel efficient than my older 97 did, so i can assume its properly leaning out the mix more. I have always ran stock pipes on my birds, so far. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed. The missed gear(s) happen during the shifting. It isnt under load much if at all when it occurs. Its more of a not making it INTO the next gear, rather than a skip OUT OF. These bikes shift so smooth, i admit that i get VERY lazy in how i ride it. I wouldnt be surprised if my old kick shift dirtbike habits creep in at times unknowingly as well... At any rate. I have spare KN filters around here, so I will change the oil back out to some overpriced Honda oil and call it done. Thanks again for the info guys... On a side note... I suspect the previous owners did nothing much but maintain the bike in great fashion.
  11. In tires, i error on the side of safety. If i have to wonder.... theyre too old for me. But in a pinch, my personal preferance is 3yrs to put on the bike after 5, they come off. Best is so new they still feel warm Of course you could do like an old flat track racer. Toss em on the barn for a few season in the sun and theyll harden to the point they last nearly forever ...
  12. Fat boots and a peg lowering kit seem to aggravate the issue. If only i had a cnc machine to cut myself a new "shorter" shifter... Thanks all for the help. I wasnt so worried that it had me looking for tools. As i figured, its probably operator error.
  13. Noticing the premature wearing of my throttle cables. It seems the bar risers have put the cables at their limits and during a left turn to full stops, the sheathing is rubbing down into the cording. So, anyone have a suggestion where to order a set of throttle cables of custom length, with the proper ends and sleeves? At least now i KNOW why the throttle on this bike seems so much tighter than my last bird... Was gna work on the throttle springs to rectify, but seems another issue may be the culprit... Fun times, just imagine the crap i would find if the bike was a POS or had been farkled much.
  14. THIS exactly. I would suspect laziness cuz i am what i am. I JUST changed the oil to Valvoline 10-30 (same oil i used on the 97 bird), but perhaps this bike isnt a fan of it. Well, I'll strike it up to operator error on my part. Honda makes great bikes, my Mom makes passable children. Not a hard equation to add up...
  15. or both. Thanks, I'll work on both, couldn't hurt regardless...
  16. This has happened to me twice now. When traveling at highway speeds around 50-60mph then trying to shift up to 6th gear, the transmission gives a little kick back and seems to find a neutral spot while randomly clacking away until i shift up or down. This is under perhaps 20% load or less. I never noticed this on my other bird, so I am just curious if i should just ride it until it blows up, or be on the lookout for further symptoms? Lazy shifting? Also of note... do the FI birds generate and displace more heat than the Carb'd do? Man do my thighs get warm on this bike. Lastly.... who makes a freakin windshield wiper for this bike? 2003 xx 20k miles
  17. Going thru my garage and I have 3 tire tubes that dont fit anything i own. One is an expensive michelin and the other a bridgestone. The third is a simple IRC. the mich is sized 80/100/21 the bridge 170/80/15 the IRC 80/100/21 I'll ship the IRC to you for cost of shipping (cash) and a small bag of candy. The bridge and michelin are gna cost ya shipping and TWO bags of candy each. I aint talking that 2 for $1.19 either Shoot me a PM ifn ya want one or all. Im in NC, so calculate what the usps would be to you. I like candy and don't like putting rubber in the landfill. So... this may be a win...win
  18. Its factory transmission. The sc400 was available in ONLY automatic and V-8. The shitty sc300's arent the same or even close. Manual transmission swap on the sc400 is common and not too tough. The auto tranny used in the sc400 is a common aisin and can be found almost free from a swap someone else has done in the past to 5 speed.
  19. Move along... nothing to see here
  20. Ive received great service from them as well. Luckily my privates werent discussed or violated, but theres always hope for next time.. A+
  21. It took me ruining one, and fiddling with the second. No, they arent the easiest to install and get working. BUT, when you do... Its the best device for a throttle lock Ive used so far. Got one coming today for my 'new' bird actually. Im hoping to get it right the first time, this go round. If more than half of us are idiots, maybe its time to redefine the meaning. Just be sure to have it tightly engaged if you're gna screw it to the started housing like i do...
  22. Just used the aluminum model for my 2,000 mile trip. It was tolerable in operation and justified the cost. I did find that it was a total pita to adjust, but served its $30 purpose. I just didnt have time to install a vista on pickup. Luckily this also fits the drz, so i will be installing a thumb lock vista on the bird, keeping the goCruise for the SM. I found that setting it at a speed faster than you want, and reducing it slowly, worked better than assuming it could be set in one motion. For those that want simplicity of install and no modification to the bike, the go-cruize 2 did fairly well. Not great, but okay... Extra silicone bands for cheap, may as well...
  23. 2100+ miles in umm... 3 days and a few hrs? She fared like I knew she could. Me, im still walking with a baddass biker burn, sore right elbow, weak knees and stank feet. Got a square set of pilot tires on her now too. Pirelli Diablos otw of course. Michellins make decent spares. Damn right! Make a decision, and take a damn adventure. No bullshit cellphone (I'll post a trip rant later), no GPS, no map, no credit card. Just a tad cash in da pocket, a simple game plan, and off we go. . . Went too smoothly, no REAL stories to tell. Things have changed out there, its good to be home in paradise with CLEAN WATER!!! Thanks all for the well wishes. Crow is Da man, but sadly birdless now. Livin' in the desert? wtf....
