  1. After searching here and STN and e-mailing Marc at Factory Pro I've got the fixed 4 degree advancer to be delivered this Friday. Marc says I can still run 87 gas with only a slight chance of pinging when over 100 deg F and I just sat in traffic with the fan on. With the power increase and possible MPG increase (makes sense to me) I'm trying it. http://www.factorypro.com/ I'll let you know the results.
  2. I had the ZG touring screen good coverage but more turbulance. Went to the ZG DB and perfect. Also looks great in dark smoke on my black XX.
  3. Pete - thanks for the tip. I have the Haynes manual and see the section on the PAIR and reed valve system. Where do I get the block off kit, or is this something you just fab on your own to disconnect and plug it? Also, I read somewhere on this forum that you drilled your stock pipes. If so, how did you do it and did that require turning the pilot screws out to 3? Thanks. I just installed Red J's block off plates, Nice. :icon_clap: well worth the $40. I had mine blocked with silicone for years. I didn't drill my pipes so much as punch holes through them. I had a threaded piece of stock I sharpened and hammered several holes in the inner baffle (about a foot into the outlet use a flashlight and you'll see where I mean) Punch a few holes and listen and tune to taste remembering that you can't go back. The 3 turns out on the pilot screws can be done to a box stock XX. The factory has it real lean on the pilot circuit to pass emissions. Will also improve starting, idleing, and throttle response.
  4. PAIR valve malfunction? Get the block off kit. Also richen up the pilot screws by backing them out to 3 turns.
  5. That's a sealed unit. you're not supposed to take it apart. Where did you get just the front clear part? You buy it as a unit. (for about $300 )
  6. :icon_think: I may have to do an advancer next. I'd love to fatten up the 3 to 7k area. So counting the needle hole you have 3 holes in the bottom of the slide? Looks like someong already messed with the slide and you may have too much air movement. the area of 2 holes is much more then a slight increase in size of one.
  7. There are 2 holes. One the needle goes through in the center and one offset for vacuum. Don't mess with the center hole the needle goes through. See if the vac hole is at 7/64ths of an inch. That's where it should be drilled for a Dynojet kit. I took mine one step more to 1/8th in. It does improve that "whack it open" throttle response. If yours isn't at 7/64ths in. start there and try it. Keep in mind that if you go too big 4 slides are about $130 I've been thinking about ignition advancing, did you notice an improvement?
  8. I cut two 4X4's to the right height to put under the front forks while on the centerstand. I've taken both wheels off numerous times this way no problems. For removing the forks I strap to the ceiling in the basement and a jack under the oil pan.
  9. I've been thinking of trying them for the $$ savings.I've got some Pirelli Stradas yet to go on so it will be awhile but I will try them unless I hear some negative feedback. Keep us updated in this thread. :icon_clap: http://www.ridenowonline.com/product_detai...80-dd7e52dfa159
  10. Well after running it in my car I get no increase in mileage (yet, I just don't drive the car much in the summer to know) but it runs better, more throttle response. Is probably cleaning the intake valves and injectors. In the XX no change noted, but I did pull my carbs and remove my needle washers for more MPG and recently put on the 18 tooth sprocket so too many changes have been done at once. I'll continue using it in the car for the cleaning benefits, stopped in the XX. It's been claimed that acetone is in the various carb/FI cleaners but all I've read on the bottles is "petroleum distillits" So I don't know. At $5 for a quart, acetone is a cheap additive if it cleans.
  11. Yeah...The gas isn't eating my floats.
  12. A thin casting at that. You don't want to drill holes in that and let in more moisture to your system. GOT to be another/better surface you can mount them on.
  13. OMG get a rivet link! I went the cheap easy way once. Lost 3 clips in the life of that chain. They were breaking off, not falling off. Luckily the side plate never came off. I think at high speed centrifugal force was snapping them at the front sprocket. Found a piece of one stuck in the chain goo.
  14. A guy at work who races short track told me about it and after going blind on the internet for a couple hours I'm trying it both in my XX and my 99 Monte Carlo. So far idles have improved and I've noticed more throttle response/power in both. Haven't emptied a tank yet so don't know about MPG yet. I'm using 3oz. per 10 gallons. http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/ Also just Yahoo "acetone in gas" and go blind like me. Opinions? Give it to me.
  15. Do the handlebars even turn with all that stuff?
  16. Oh believe me, I've checked. I jack up the front frequently and the amount of friction left to right hasn't changed in the least. I've never had to retourqe yet, still perfect.
  17. I have been following this thread and thinking. Just to clarify, you are changing the cover only. you are unbolting the stator, 4 allen bolts, and bolting it in the cover you got from here. then you get the new noise. You switch it back and it's gone. First question, how did you get the hairline crack? Is the rotor hitting the stator or the cover? Should see wear marks. Is the stator mounted off center in the cover due to bent mounting bolts? This is one of those problems hard to fix online.
  18. Well I've been dragging my ass to report this because I'm rather despondent over it. I did my headbearings to tapered over the winter and also put on new Contiforces. rode this spring and had no headshake. Now as the tires are wearing I'm getting it back. It doesn't start by itself but if I take my hands off at 50 decellerating and whack a grip with my fist it starts and continues. As the tires wear more it will probably start on it's own. Now I still say it's worth doing if yours are dented, the handling in the corners is much improved but it's not a cureall for the headshake like I thought it would be.
  19. Both running and brake lights. All LED's on low for running, all on bright for brake. The guys I ride with say it's really an attention getter, especially from a distance. Redxxrdr, those sound like Hyperlites. My buddy has them on his Concours. They do border on annoying especially when I follow him all day. But I bet he never gets rear ended.
  20. Yep, 97 & 98 the same, 99 on the same. I've got 2 30 LED bulbs side by side. It gives the look of a pair of eyes looking out of the lens.
  21. I put several holes in each baffle from the back end and it sounds good to me, a little louder then stock but quieter than anything aftermarket. On the other hand D&D is considered the loudest made. The pilot screws are jetting screws they richen by turning out. The shims are little washers from Lowes .025 to .035 thick.
  22. I question if some aftermarket exausts actually flow more air then factory. I've still got the factory exaust. I paid my $100 and bought a DynoJet jet kit, installed it and never could get it quite right. It also dropped my MPG from 42 to 32. I removed it and sold it. My current setup has shims under the factory needles, pilot screw out 3 turns, and vac. slide holes drilled out to 1/8th in. Runs perfect and I still get 40-42 MPG. If you actually find a system that flows more you can just buy 4 bigger main jets. much cheaper.
  23. I wonder if 2 of these 30-LED 1157 bulbs will fit in the 97 XX? http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi No, they won't fit. Ours has a base like a 3157, but with a smaller capsule. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?...rbrightleds.com I beg to differ. I've had my 30 LED bulbs for awhile now and love them. I also put in an electronic flasher and have the 30 LED bulbs in my rear turnsignals. I've got these. http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/1156-x30.htm
  24. JT makes one. Of course it's not going to have the damper blah blah blah. Any dealer who sells out of the Tucker Rocky or Parts Unlimited catalogs will be able to get you one. They're about $20. +1 That's where I got mine. A local small shop ordered me a JT and came in the next day. As far as the damper thing goes my bike now puts out a slight whine that melds with the tire noise on the pavement. Barely noticeable. I'm still loving the 18 tooth more everyday.
  25. All I can say is I'm at 68k miles still all factory bearings. 85 V65 Sabre 107k, same bearings. Now onto the more bizzare part of your post. A Harley...anything Japanesse dealer? Is it just me? I've never seen one. Harley/Buell, yes. Hon/Yam/Kaw/Suz dealers, sure. I've been around, I'm a bike dealer hound too. I will go check out every bikeshop I see. Especially now with Harley building these HUGE dealerships everywhere. No Hondas in there.
