    New to the list

Welcome to the list!! I am currently running an Avon 45/46 combo and like them a lot. Others on this list have expressed similar opinions. I'm sure many of the various B-stones, Michelins and Metzelers are good tires too, but I just haven't tried them. The Dunlops just don't give me the mileage I hoped for.
  2. What's the part number for the new tensioner? Is it the -315 I put in my bike?
  3. You can get a pretty significant leak from your valve cover. I know, because the person who serviced my bike before I bought it, didn't get the gasket installed properly. A light coat of some kind of gasket sealer should be more than adequate for the job. Take a look around the perimeter of your valve cover and see if you can see your gasket. Mine had pooched out from under the cover when the guy installed it.
  4. It's as easy as Northman says. Getting ready and cleaning up takes longer than doing the job. If I remember right, my original tensioner had a green paint dot on it and the replacement has two green dots. The part number was also slightly different. The new part was a -315 number. The new tensioner has been in my bike for about 4K miles with no problems at all. (edited to add dash number and the paint dot info.)
  5. I had my cam cover off to replace a leaking cover gasket at about 14k miles and checked the valve clearances while I was in there. All were within tolerances. I removed the cover per the instructions in the manual (thanks again Chris  ). If I were to remove the cover again, I would try to get it out from the top. I'm not positive it would come out that way, but it looks like it would. It would sure be easier than taking the oil cooler, radiator, plastic, etc. loose.
  6. I like the ceramic coated header option that vOOdOOchild mentioned. I've been interested in this mod since he first posted it, but I haven't done it yet. I think Northman coated his header too. Did it help your bike run cooler too Chris?

    New Chain Q ?

The dealer's trying to rip you. Everything I've read says the DID ZVM is the chain for our bikes. Who told you otherwise?
  8. BTW our friend Mick from the UK posted several great replies and pics that describe this problem very well.

    PCIII for $239

It turns out that I didn't get my PC-II either. They just sent me an e-mail saying they had sold out. The Bastards took my order and failed to fill it.
  10. What year is your 'Bird? I understand there is a wiring harness recall in Europe. It may apply to you. I cleaned all the grounds, including the chassis and the battery and my FI light still comes on once in a while. My bike is an '00.

    DID Chain Tool

Does anyone have a DID chain riveter that I can borrow, rent, lease, etc? I don't really want to buy the tool since I am a cheap bastard. I certainly don't want to trust the local area dealers to install my chain and sprockets. I can cut the old chain off, but I sure could use an authentic rivet tool to finish the installation. Can anyone help?

    PCIII for $239

I just ordered one of these too. It's funny, I was bidding on a used unit on e-bay and was up to $125 or so. I'm glad I didn't win the bid. A new Power Commander II for $145 was too good to pass up. Thanks for the link!

    Chain Kit?

I received my 06406-MAT-A00 chain kit today. It had two shiny new Honda sprockets, a master link and a DID 50 ZVS chain. I've heard of the ZVM chain, but I've never heard of the ZVS. Does anyone have any details on this chain? I've looked on the DID site and Google and can't find any info on this product.
  14. You're right Brett. The newbie outbid me and my 26.4k dial-up connection. (I wouldn't have paid $356 for them anyway. )
  15. I think you out bid me for these mufflers on e-bay. :???:
  16. My local dealer charges $15 per tire when I carry the wheels in. Those ME-6's are good looking tires. I'll be interested to hear how you like them.

    FI light

Thanks for the info. I bought mine used with about 12K on it, so I don't have an original dealer to bitch at. I've asked a local area dealer about the wiring harness and if there were any service bulletins or recalls and they said there were not. Of course, we've heard that there is a replacement policy in Europe for this harness. My FI light does the same things you describe. Comes on intermittently and goes off if I use the turn sigs., brake, horn, high beam, etc. I had planned to tear into my harness this spring to try to fix the problem myself. Mick from across the pond has given us some great info on what has been happening with the Euro Birds. I guess I better call American Honda. Do you have a contact name and number by any chance.

    FI light

Hmmmm.... I wonder if I could get the same deal on my '00 with the same problem. Where are you located? What type of problem were you having with the FI light?

    Chain Kit?

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone know what brand of chain is in the kit? I'll bet it's either a DID or RK and either is OK with me. My OEM RK has 20K miles on it.

    Chain Kit?

Has anyone tried a Honda chain kit? I saw one on both Ron Ayers and HondaDirect sites. It's part number is 06406-MAT-A00 and it looks like it has both sprockets and a chain for about $260-$270.
  21. I vote Penske too.

    Huggers

I like my Pyramid Plastics Hugger and Fenda Extenda. See the Vendors section for places to get one.
  23. After several tries at other locations, I ended up mounting mine on the subframe near the center stand lift handle.
  24. I checked mine at 14.4K miles. None of them needed adjustment.
