  1. Well, I used the search again to no avail. Found out a ton of other stuff about the chain though So I apologize if this was already covered. I have my Honda chain lube, but I forgot where the heck I put it. The local Honda shop will not be open for the next couple days, so I would like to ask what is a good substitute for the Honda lube? I am thinking there should be a ton of them. If anyone could provide actual names of the product, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again. Steve
  2. There's where your problem lies. I'm surprised nobody else caught that. You don't need that much rpm on the XX unless you are trying to spin up the rear on exits. The extra rpm just kills your mileage. Ask the guys with the smaller front sprockets about that. Ditto Chris. I went up to Spokane and back today for a nice ride and I was nearly pegged on 4k in 6th gear, averaging about 70-72mph. Like was mentioned, no need to have the RPM's high if you dont need too. Steve
  3. Ok, here we go First, I would like to thank Obiwan VERY much for posting this link. As luck would have it, the local Schucks had ONE more, so I picked her up. Although the Honda mech. did not tighten it very much, this tool worked wonders! I higly recommend it. Although my other metal one would have worked, this one was MUCH easier. Thanks again Obiwan. John wrote: Thanks a ton John, but with the help of my little bro (working the flashlight and everything ) we did alwright. I went to Shumate today again to inquire on a change. Again $70 dollars and I would have to wait until Thursday.........Ummm, screw that! Ok, some of the things I would like to add. First off, the oil filter was a tad tricky. But, just like was mentioned, I filled it 3/4 full and it worked perfect. I "missed" my fist attempt at putting it on (spilled to much), but just added a tad more oil and got it the second time. I spilled a very tiny amount, so no biggie. One great thing my brother noted was looking through the RIGHT side cowl. He flashed the light up through the bottom and it was MUCH easier to put it on this way, instead of laying on the ground and trying to get it on. You have a much better view and can get a better grip/subsequent twist on it. Also double checked to make sure no gasket was left. As for the washer from the oil plug, it says to replace it but is this honestly necessary? I inspected it, and it was a very stout looking thing. I could see nothing wrong with it whatsoever. Checked a few hours later and stil a perfect seal. Lastly, the bird only wanted to drink 4 quarts total. I read the total capacity is 4.9, but I let the four sit and then checked the dipstick again and it was nicking the top mark. Ill check it again tomorrow, but does this seem about right to everyone else? Ohh, and what the hell is up with that marking on the dipstick? I cannot even remember what it says. Like mac or some stupid thing. Where is the "min" and "max" markings? This last one is kind of a no-brainer, but I need to ask anyway. The two parallel lines that are above and below that name on the dipstick are indeed the min and max markings, correct? I ask because there is a small recessed portion that continues ABOVE the upper parallel line. Wow, that was a lot...lol. Thanks again for everyones help Steve
  4. Thanks a lot guys for the responses! I dont know if I would trust myself to not prefill the filter, so ill just do like the instructions say and get it on there as quick as possible I am hoping the damn filter will come off, but if not, Ill look for something like Obiwan put up there, thanks! Wish me luck with the beast  (will start later today) I really am hoping the filter comes off easy  Steve Ohh, and I am not sure of the oil filter volume, but once you prefill and reinstall it, you have to take that into account obvisouly when you go to fill it up, right? I believe it is just a hair over 4 quarts (like 4.2) for the whole thing. Thanks again!
  5. Thanks a lot Suff, thats perfect. Question though, Ill add the quote here: I obviously know what is ment by this statement, but will a "normal" oil filter wrench work if you cannot get it by hand? I went to the local schucks and got a metal one yesterday, and it is just the perfect size to fit over the filter. However, I did not check if it would fit up through there. If it doesnt, what is this "wrench cap" he is referring too? Are they easy to come by? Possibly a pic? Thanks for the offer of the pics, but I dont think I have enough room in my free Yahoo account That write-up was very descriptive, and I believe it will be jsut fine. Steve P.S: Do the dealerships usually tighten the oil filters down really hard? I would hope not, since they are dealers. Who knows though I guess. Ill find out later today
  6. Arrggghhh. I remember seeing it, but now I cannot find it. Tried the search many times and searched through tons of pages......... In short, can someone please post one more time the full instructions on how to change the oil on the bird (screw the dealership now and their $70  )?? I think Joe originally put it up. I would be very appreciative. I have my oil and filter and am ready to go  I remember someone saying that there was a very "easy" way to do it. As far as accesing the oil filter from what I recall. Where does anyone recommend to take used oil? A Jiffy Lube or something should take it for you, right? For a price I mean. Ohh, and get this, I was at Shumate motorsphorts (all the Tri-cities folk know where Im talking about) and went to the maint. dept. Anyhoo, I walk in and of course everything is emblazoned in Harley (HD dealership in FRONT of Honda...lol). So I talk to the guy and then I leave. On my way out, I walk right behind a "Hawg" that had a maint. worker on it. I walk behind the ass and he guns the throttle! Shit, I think the sound waves damaged my ear I just look back and smirk. The reason? He saw I had my .org shirt on  What a doofus. Ohh, and the gas tank is 5.8 gallons, correct? Thanks. Thanks all Steve
  7. I have always liked the red x style fence, very unique  :poke: Hope to see a pic of it Nik! Steve
  8. Wow, that is really looking nice! Great looking backyard too. Reminds me of when I use to live in Issaquah. I loved all the pine trees and the mountains, great area. Ohh, and the Bohms chocolate factory wasnt to bad either  Steve
  9. Is that a condo there Dave? I too really like the decorative waterfalls and stuff. Every time I go to Lowes or Home Depot I have to check them out For a few hundred, you can get some pretty cool stuff. Good luck in chosing! Steve
  10. Wow, I just finally looked at this thread and I am glad I waited! It was realy cool to see your shop come to life. That thing is huge  Do you plan on living in it part time too? Very nicely done. I am in the process of remodeling a 29 foot travel trailer, and like you said, looking back and seeing what you did is very gratifying, I really like to do this kind of stuff. I sure as hell aint going to pay someone to do it!...lol Steve
  11. Thank you Eric, I would have never thought about a pressure washer :???: Im gonna go pick her up tomorrow. Will make a documentary of the before and after look. I think it will be a lot of fun. Steve
  12. Hey all who might own one of these! I just picked up a very sweet 29' Terry Travel Trailer for $1,700.00. It is very straight and only needs the cosmetic stuff. Will be a great project. Before I go online to try and search this, I thought I might come here and pose the question first, as so many always seem to have great info  Mainly, I would like to know if there are any sites out there basically dedicated to the "Do it Yourselfer" when it comes to fixing these up. Mainly, I would like to know how I can get rid of the decal striping that goes along the trailer, as it is worn and chipping off. Also, I need some advice on how I could "strip" the outside and repaint it. I could definetly do it, I am just not quite sure on how to prep the outside. Is there specialty paints just FOR these things? I think a lot of the work on the inside will pertain to simple everyday stuff you do when you are fixing up a house. For example, it comes with great exposed wood shelves and drawers and I will take them off and sand and stain them. To recap though, if anyone can lead me to a site such as this (where they cover restoration of TT's and stuff), I would be very appreciative. Thanks! Steve
  13. Man, all this talk is reminding me of my Weight and Balance charts! Moments, Inertia (not relative, just added), Datums, Arms, Fulcrums, Weight, Inch-pounds.... Intersting to hear what everyone thinks though  Steve
  14. Glad you got it fixed! I use to (and still do often), let out the clutch and go with the kickstand DOWN  What an innovation. Or, accidentally having the kill switch engaged and "trying" to start it. That one doesnt take to long to figure out. Ohh well, part of the fun. steve
  15. Hi John: I dont know how often you ride your bike, but I had a very similar problem with mine. It turned out to be my battery  So obvious yet so far away I jump started it to take it for a ride and only cruised through town initiall at very low RPM's, maybe up to 3-3.5k. Well, this wasnt enough to sustain a charge on the battery from the alternator, so she started surging, lights went on and off, FI light came on, then finally died on my way back. Tried to turn key and dead as a door nail  Prob. not it, but thought I would add my dos centavos Steve
  16. I would go with the "obvious" color  and say red. I have a red Mustang and have never been pulled over. I have an 88 fricking CRX (fucking champ of a car!) and have been pulled over twice :???: I honestly dont know what the answer would be. If we are talking, what color should have Deserved a ticket, than I know that I am guilty on many counts  Obviously I am not admitting to breaking any laws  , but certain speeds I have obtained could be construed as "possibly" not legal...lol Your bike should get a ticket for looking TOO good Dave! My bike is very jealous!!! Steve
  17. Hey Mic, what is that HISS key system you mention on the 99's? Steve
  18. Sorry, I meant to clarrify that I had never heard of them making an application for motorcycles (like Micron, Muzzie, Two Brothers, Yosh. etc) I researched Borla, Bassani, Flowmaster blah, blah, blah for quite some time when I set up my car. Finally decided on the dual Flowmaster 40 series, very nice sound. .....sorry for that misunderstanding. Steve
  19. Never heard of them before black, but it sure looks nice! Steve
  20. Just wanted to say that was the problem. I went up there today and started it again with my battery pack and revved it up to about 5-6k a few times and she ran like a champ. I turned it off after this and right back on. This time it actually had a bit of juice as the headlight was dim along with the digital readouts, so that was definetly a good sign. I brought the battery back with me and will be charging it. Thanks again all Steve
  21. Thanks SO VERY much guys!!!! You know, I think you are right (as usual  ). You know why, because when I tried to start her again RIGHT after it died, there was absoloutely NO JUICE WHATSOVER! Completely dead, nadda. No electrical whatsoever. Thank you very much again. I was getting ready to go buy a couple of gas cans and siphon hose blah, blah blah Ill go buy myself a new battery charger as the one I was using before was not mine Thanks again! Steve
  22. Hey all, I just recently made it up to my storage space where I have to keep my other car and bike. Like I did last time I was there, I started her up for quite a while and everything was swell. Well, I went up there a couple days ago for a nice ride. The battery was not holding a charge, so I had to use my little battery pack to start it, which it did right away. It was running just great for about 2-3 miles than the RPM's started to literally flutter on the tach and all digital went blank than came back on. I immediately headed back and the RPM's kept fluttering (was at very slow speed, but I would increase and it did nothing to improve), the lights went out one more time before she finally quit. Ohh, the FI light came on briefly also   Well, I am just wondering, it could easily be the fuel itself couldnt it? I unfortunately have not been able to ride it frequently for some time, and now fear that the fuel in the tank possibly broke down or there may have been some condensate that settled to the bottom. Do you think the fuel in the lines was ok, but once fuel from the tank reached it, it killed it? I am thinking this is very much the problem, as I did not put any fuel stabilizer in it  Any recommendations? Think I can just siphon out the "old" fuel and put some fresh gas in along with some stabilizer? Like I say, she ran like a CHAMP as usual until a couple miles down the road, and got very rough. I plan on going up later today to try and "remedy" the problem. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Steve P.S.: Please, I am really asking for assistance. I would greatly appreciate not hearing sole remarks of: "Well, if you rode it more often, this wouldnt have taken place."
  23. Thanks a lot Rich, I will try that when I go back up there  Steve
  24. Yeah thanks Carlos, thats what I meant. I was going to take the battery out and then take it to my house where I was going to put it on the charger. Thanks too for the info Voodo! Steve
  25. Thank you very, very much guys! I thought I would be on it more for some reason  So, I indeed did not put any stabilizer in the fuel and did not properly prepare it for an extended storage period. Thanks also for the advice on the starter. I did not "lay" on it, but probably tried it for more than five seconds. Will remember that for future use. And finally....DUH!!!. I dont know WHY the hell I did not take the fricking battery out with me! Damn, I ammaze myself with lack of common sense sometimes  Thanks much for the tips. Steve
