  1. Just spend some time out in the country with your biek and a laptop. Do it yourself and save $75 bucks.
  2. What I don't like about the clutch on my XX is it feels very on and off. I have lots of trouble trying to slip the clutch during launch. Also it (dis)engages right at the top of the clutch travel. I thought I would get used to it, but after three weeks of fairly continuous use I still don't like it.
  3. velocity

    MPG

I'm pretty sure it's not good. I get about 200kms on 15 liters. Plugging that into our good pal google gives about 31 mpg. Not bad, but not great.
  4. Ok but if you add weight (increase MOI) to your rear wheel you are effectively trying to accelerate a larger wheel with the same amount of horsepower. So the wheel accelerates slower, causing the dyno to give you a lower number, regardless of how much horsepower the engine is actually putting out. That's why it's called WHEEL horsepower.
  5. sorry...I shouldn't write about technical stuff when I've been drinking. You are right, the moment of inertia (rotational mass) of the wheel will affect whp. I was just thrown by the term unsprung weight which is a bit of a misnomer since there is unsprung weight associated with the front wheel as well. That weight won't affect dyno numbers since the engine doesn't directly drive the front wheel.
  6. *cough* bullshit *cough* ok tell me just how much unsprung weight affects a bike when strapped to a dyno? (ie. the engine doesn't really need to move the unsprung weight) I absolutely have no doubt that unsprung weight affects handling and acceleration on a track. But to say that it affect dyno number, no way.
  7. If you are doing a lot of riding in the cold you'd probably want a thinner oil. But since you live in CA (probably don't need to worry about COLD starts) I'd say go with the thicker oil.
  8. Well if you're using it and haven't had any problems I can't argue with that. I just didn't want to chance it on my own bike.
  9. Hey man...bungee cords will hold down any box you need to carry. Man I only *WISH* I had a box to carry on my XX
  10. Just think about how much weight that would save you!!! That'll be like an extra 1/2 HP.
  11. I know...I used to use Mobil1 15W-50 in my bike too. But they started adding their "SuperSyn" Anti-Friction Technology to the 15W-50 as well. That's when I stopped using it. And so did everyone I know who used to use it too.
  12. Mobil 1 has changed their oil and added friction modifiers (ie. tungsten). This is bad news for clutches. In my old bike I started using castrol syntec and have had no problems over the past two oil changes.
  13. Well I was going to delete the thread since no one responded to my first post but I thought I'd give you all the benefit of the doubt and hope that I wouldn't get a bunch of assh**e replies *cough* NORTHMAN *cough*....guess I was wrong.
  14. I used the mount that came with my garmin. I drilled a couple of holes in a zip-tied it to the triple tree. It's not pretty but it's free. I'm sure I'll invest in a better mount if I decide to do some extended touring.
  15. LOL....yeah I had this guy at work and every time I rode to work he'd hit my kill switch while I wasn't watching. So every time I get on my bike I just instictively turn the kill switch on (or is it off?) The neutral thing kinda threw me for a loop though.
