  1. 37/39 is what I run also.
  2. And the rest of the time it's snowing...?
  3. Well, that's over with. Oil change, plugs, filters. I put in the Iridium plugs, let's see if they last. Fuck it's humid here today. It's gotta be close to 40%. At least it's only around 90 degrees, but I'd rather have 105 and 15%. I need A/C in the garage.
  4. Yes, well, if you use the specific tool suggestions I have on the main site in the FAQ...it's not so tight... Long extension, flex, short extension, socket. Easy and fast.
  5. The Iridium plugs should be able to go the 32k with no problem. I'm putting them in mine today or tomorrow. I'll go do an EGA test when they've got 12-ish on them to see if they're still holding up. The Platinums are well shot by then.
  6. What you describe would be low-speed and high-speed valving on a shock. A rising-rate linkage decreases the leverage as the suspension compresses, effectively increasing the spring rate as applied at the wheel. This gives a softer ride at normal compression, and helps resist bottoming by raising the rate. I doubt that the XX has rising-rate linkage, but I don't know. Sport bikes avoid this, same reason they avoid progressive/multi-rate springs.
  7. Heh, that's called a Waveguide, and it's how all microwave-range emitters/receivers work. You'll find one in your microwave oven too. When frequencies start to get that high, all of the regular radio engineering rules, like how wires work, get thrown out the window.
  8. Go back to the site, and look in the FAQ section.
  9. Well, lots of the answers are to be found here and on the main site. Suspension, bars, etc. On the mirrors, if they're uneven I would suspect that the bike has been down and the fairing subframe bent. I'm battling this now myself. We also talked about spacers, someone was going to make a prototype, but it hasn't happend. I guess I need to just go get it done. The wind protection with the Givi screen is good. Rain does hit your hands a little, but not full force. There's a measure of protection which is obvious if you move your hands away from the bars at speed. If you move the bars though, that will change. Someone had made some clear fairing winglets a while back, but I don't recall whether I got pics and instructions for the site. Look in the mods section.
  10. LASER is not microwave--it's light in the infrared part of the spectrum. A dark shield WILL obscure that. You can put a RADAR detector under plastic without effect, but I'm not sure if the metal flake in the paint would affect it. Actually I know it WILL affect it to some extent, just have no idea how much.
  11. So it sounds like Honda didn't change anything, but Ohlins did. Weird.
  12. "Bad sugar" as in aspartame? I try to avoid "loading up" on aspartame, but I'm not going to sweat eating a bit of the stuff. It won't hurt in small quantities. To be honest, I've read very little of the Atkins stuff, but found that he was a bit on the fanatical side about certain things. Like caffeinne and alcohol. Fuck him, I drink coffee and alcohol the same as I always did, doesn't hurt any more than it ever did.
  13. Snacking... Think nuts (but not peanuts, they're actually a legume, not a nut). Also, pork rinds. You can eat as many of those as you want. Fortunately for you, in CA you can get decent ones. Look for a Cuban market. Here in AZ all I can get are shitty brand-name pork rinds. Go to netrition.com and order up some low-carb shit. They even have low-carb tortillas, and they're good! The Atkins chips are tasty but fucking expensive. And if you don't mind doing some cooking... You can bake cheese chips. Fucking tasty! Just put small squares of cheese on a greased pan and bake at 400 until toasty. Do NOT get any of the low-carb tortilla chips unless you like chalk and paste mixed together and toasted. I've got a recipe for low-carb cheesecake that people think is "normal" (though it's got enough that you need to wait until after your first month for that). Breakfast on the run...Irish eggs. Take a whole hardboiled egg, cover it like a ball with sausage, and fry that up. Now you have a Sausage McMuffin without the muffin, and they keep in the fridge for weeks. Meat pizza... Make a "crust" from ground meat, and cook it by itself. Pour off grease. Top like normal pizza (tomatoes are pretty low in carbs, but most pre-made sauces add sugar, so watch that). You can also make the crust from just cheese, baked as with the cheese chips. There's a LOT you can do, just think different. Oh, and go do a 2-hour shopping trip, reading all the labels. Look at the shit you never looked at before, and look at the bottom/top shelves where the non-mainstream stuff is.
  14. Sure, a lot of them are sugar-free. Seems like most are now. I like those ones in the flat foil packs. I think they're Dentyne?
  15. Can you measure the length from the center of each eyelet to the other? Should be either 11.75" or 12.5". Also the eyelet diameter itself?
  16. Do you recall if it was the shorter one or the longer one? The 12.5" (longer) model is what fits the earlier years. It's very strange that they'd change the part number in the Ohlins book.
  17. The "service" isn't going to do anything at all for this. Sounds like a fan problem, not covered in the standard 16k mile service. Yes, there is a catch bottle, but when the fluid boils you will overflow that too. Start by warming the motor at idle and see if the fan comes on at about 2/3-3/4 scale on the temp guage. If not, you have a problem. Also check to see that the fan spins by hand and is not seized.
  18. The Ohlins book shows a different shock part number for the 01-02 models (03 unlisted). Anybody know if they really did change? Has anybody done the 900 shock on an 01 or later? Anyone got an 01-up shock out of the bike?
  19. 10 is going the wrong direction. Stock is 7.5 and the bike is known to be over-damped. What is the weight on these springs?
  20. Oooohh...burnouts...now that's impressive. 9k on a tire...so your bike is a goofy-looking monstrosity AND you can't ride. Funny shit. Live to pose...post to live...
  21. Oh, I'm sure with that gearing it goes to 215 INDICATED. It cannot get anywhere near 180 though, and I think (without doing the math) it can't even get past 160.
  22. Um...how would I tell the brake dust from the mud and dirt accumulated on the wheels...? I really don't know. Never keep the bike clean enough to tell. But I do know the greens produce a lot of dust, being organic. Alpha, don't know about that, what do they call the sintered pads?
  23. Well, it's like I expected. The Galfer Black pads don't go as far as the EBC HH, but are kinder on the rotors. After 20k miles they are pretty thin, and maybe good for 5k more. The EBC's gave me about 30k. However, rotor wear is nearly immeasurable, whereas 30k with the EBC's ate about 1/3 of their rated service life. At this point the pads aren't as "bitey" as they were when new, but are still very good. The Blacks were always more linear than the EBC HH. The HH are grabbier, but they are not linear across pressure/friction or heat/friction. They don't have much friction when cold, then grab like all hell as they heat, then go off again as they get really hot. The Blacks are just about flat, more predictable. I'm going to replace them with another set of Blacks. Note: I also love the Greens, actually prefer them, but not in the rain. The greens also wear faster, but are easiest on the rotors.
