I thought of that conversation yesterday when a customer going through a very difficult move called me her emotional support animal. Apparently I've been just taking on whatever she needs help with and not really thinking about it. Again, why I'll never retire, satisfaction like that. I had that concern, and it all depends on the material and how the print layers were set up. Not to get complicated, but... Materials: PLA is pretty hard but brittle and inflexible. Like glass. ABS is glassy but flexy too. PETG and nylon are very flexible, workable, probably ideal for this. Printing with a lot of walls makes it harder, but inflexible. Printing with a lot of fill can do the same. Printing with certain patterns of fill changes the flex (in both direction, and amount). It can get complicated to print exceptionally engineered parts. But you can also just print something generically and do ok. Anyone here is welcome to search for a part and I can take a stab at printing it well. Look on these sites: https://www.yeggi.com https://www.printables.com

I'm familiar with their claims. It detects some, but it's limited. I wouldn't believe whatever the vendor is saying, find other sources. Try this: https://grok.com/share/bGVnYWN5_ab423721-a73b-4af5-a97a-a51bd970d375 Edit to add: This is not about saying it's bad or anything, just that we all need to fully realize the risks we are taking. Also a good friend's brother just got a colon cancer diagnosis and apparently it's somewhat serious.

I can't seem to get the Rivian's torque converter to unlock ever. I just woke up from a dream where I was driving my old motorhome, that Oscar has now, up a very steep hill leaving the parking lot of a park or marina. It couldn't pull it, and I couldn't get enough TC slippage. And apparently backing down had the risk of flipping it over as an endo if I braked too much. Thanks to the diabetic-induced need to pee often we'll never know how it ends, unfortunately. Anyway, I had a programmer in my Dodge that let me tune a bunch of the trans settings, something to consider. Like a more enhanced tow mode, or semi manual mode. I could change some on the fly. See what's out there. I think I paid in the range of $250.

I have no idea. I can't do it at all, so yes, infinitely so. I'm sure for someone else it's really easy. I have zero CAD skills and can only barely take existing models and mod them to fit what I need.

I was annoyed at trying to hold my helmet while cleaning the inside then wanting it have open air to dry. So... Pass one was round, no good. So for the second attempt I made it oval. The black things are generic tube wrap foam to protect the helmet and keep it from sliding around. Total cost of prototype and final material is $2.06. Now to make a dryer for my winter gloves which retain moisture like a motherfucker. That's the most complicated model I've ever printed. It took over ten seconds to slice on my M4 Max with 32 GPU cores. Crazy.

So, for people of that age, you can mostly replace the anal roto-rooter with a mail-in stool sample test now. I decided to do that. It has some minor compromises in what can be detected. I also don't want to be spray-shitting for two days, and the regular test people wouldn't let me just fast for five days. They agreed it would work, and do not believe that I can do it. "People always end up cheating." Fuckers, I've done that just for sport. It would also mean at least two weeks off my blood sugar peptide. And I've never had any kind of general anesthesia but know I respond very terribly to opiates and even N2O has a very unusual and weird effect on me. Anyway, I sent this in the package, and my hope and dream is that some lab tech will have this in his office forever. Thank you, whoever had to handle that shit after a weekend in Austin drinking everything and eating junk food.

Nah, it's fucking drywall, it turns into dust if you look at it wrong. I have cut it with my non-serrated MT blades, you could also use a butter knife. The MT moves in all directions and notice how they are curved, I bet it takes ten seconds to cut in a box.

I've needed one maybe 2-3 times in the 14 years we've lived here. Probably 2. If you're doing a few new adds/remodel...maybe?

The number of Americans getting enough fiber is vanishingly small. I think under 10%. Recently I decided that when asked the retarded question that many people ask about being plant based, I'll answer with a question. They like to ask, "Where do you get your protein?" My answer is now, "Where do you get your fiber?" The majority of militant carnivores think meat has fiber. WTF! Protein is super easy to get, fiber, not as much (based on Standard American Diet). https://www.vox.com/2019/3/20/18214505/fiber-diet-weight-loss How is your bean intake? That's a very important source of fiber, protein, and a shitload of critical micronutrients. Here are things I use also, besides plants... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GPGQJR4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VNFV61F https://www.amazon.com/Metamucil-Cinnamon-Flavored-Supplement-Psyllium/dp/B07KYYP497

So, aside from enjoying the joke, I decided...maybe there's a repair/protective effect? But unfortunately nobody has studied it. The best I can come up with is that the GLOW blend (common name for this blend) could theoretically help since it's a repair compound. Theoretical Considerations Potential Protective Effects: Given their antioxidant (GHK-Cu) and anti-inflammatory (BPC-157, TB-500) properties, these peptides might theoretically mitigate risk factors for cataracts, such as oxidative stress or inflammation. However, no studies confirm this in the lens. Risk of Harm: There’s no evidence suggesting these peptides cause cataracts. Cataract formation is more closely tied to aging, UV radiation, or diabetes than to peptide use. Side effects reported for these peptides (e.g., increased angiogenesis) don’t align with known cataract mechanisms. Conclusion Currently, no studies directly correlate the GLOW peptide protocol (GHK-Cu, BPC-157, TB-500) with cataracts—neither as a causative factor nor a therapeutic intervention. Research on these peptides focuses on other physiological systems, and their effects on the eye’s lens remain uncharted. For definitive answers, targeted studies would be needed, likely involving animal models or human trials examining lens clarity and protein aggregation in the context of peptide administration. If you’re interested in emerging research, I can search further as new studies become available, but as of now, the connection is unestablished. Potential Concerns Regarding Cataracts Cataracts are primarily caused by protein aggregation in the lens due to oxidative stress, aging, or metabolic disorders. While peptides like GHK-Cu have antioxidant properties that may theoretically protect against oxidative damage, there is no evidence linking these peptides to either preventing or causing cataracts.

That's beautiful, nobody would guess it's nearly a decade old.

I've been tuning my carbon fiber surface quality, and think I nailed it. "I'd like a light-duty shelf right here, for the ebike chargers and other minor electrical things, by the power strip." I have lots of boards, but no shelf brackets. But I have a 3D printer. I got a new phone mount/charger for the car, and need a ball extension. I don't NEED this, but it will for sure be helpful. And then, 24 hours after printing it, I needed it. Did you know you can print rust? Well, you can print with iron-filled PLA, then apply a rustification solution. This looks amazing in person. Don't you hate the center console storage being just a messy bucket? Three levels, and the grid you can see is to snap in dividers and purpose-made holders like the key holder. Try some MCT oil and Haribo sugar free jelly beans. They will fly out sideways at supersonic speeds.

The best phone mount/charger ever; fast with active cooling
SwampNut replied to SwampNut's topic in The Garage
Because it controls the heat so well, it charges at a ludicrous rate. Today I finally put the OBD adapter in the truck so it can go full speed. 20% to 50% in around 15-20 minutes. -

Then it's just a good magsafe charger and no more. There are many. I've never seen one that doesn't heat up the phone. If you're not using the phone and/or not keeping it up high where sun hits it, then it's hot but doesn't matter. Yes or the OBD adapter I linked in the OP. Anything that can do 27w for super fast charging or at least 15 for slow charging. Some newer cars have powerful USB ports, just not most. -
The best phone mount/charger ever; fast with active cooling
SwampNut replied to SwampNut's topic in The Garage
Yeah, he said it's very hard to get people to understand that it needs HIGH power. Most people have no clue about USB power levels, and most cars are very low. It burns 12w just for cooling. Most car USB ports are 10w and all of the hardwire kits on Amazon are under 15w. You need a 27w input for fast charging, 15w for slow charging, and 10w to barely keep up. And then the morons claiming the magnet is weak. Jesus H, they are using thick non-magnetic cases. I'm actually considering using this on the motorcycle, with no mechanical safety, because it's so strong. Opinions on that welcome, including, "You're a fucking retard." IMG_5527.mp4 -
I'd rather have a Rincorn Continental
SwampNut replied to SwampNut's topic in Diet & health exchange
FUCK! How did I not know this? Why the fuck did no eye doctor tell me, even prompted for solutions???? You can get elective "cataract" surgery to simply replace the lens and fix astigmatism. Goddamn, would have done that long ago. So now I'll get one eye with insurance, plus about $1k (estimated) for toric lens correction. And then need to find how to get a bargain on the other eye. I know, cheap discounted eye surgery. Probably do some medical tourism.
