Should Honda pay for replacement of this bike's 3rd CCT?

'99 Super Blackbird

History of my CCT

I replaced the CCT at 15,000 miles. I know the chain won't fail soon but I could not handle the noise - and it was the right thing to do. So I had the dealer - that I trust - do the work and advocate to Honda for me. Honda split the difference and it only cost me $89. but now, 5,000 miles later, the cam chain is noisy again and inspection shows the CCT needs to be replaced again. Honda says they will not pay for anything this time. Also, the bike's extended warrentee is over - as it was 5k miles ago. Delaer says Honda should pay for it but can't make them.

Your dealer charged $180 to replace that?!? You were screwed. I hope they waxed your bike and gave you a blowjob with the extra hour they billed for.

Really, it literally takes 15 minutes to do.

I had my CCT replaced twice by my dealer, both times under (extended !) warranty  First time at about 28K milles and the second time at about 40K. I went and talked about it before my warranty expired, they made a note of it and said they'd have to consult Honda rep.

I had an answer past the expiration date, but they still honored the warranty  The CCT didn't sound as bad as the first time, but the service people agreed the it was going bad. Anyway, I was ready to just buy the kit and install it myself. You paid way to much ! Sorry man....

This job cost me only about 25 minutes of my life. It was as easy as you guys told me. :)

The next time the chain rattles, I am going to simply try coiling (winding) back the plunger and letting it reset against the chain guide. I am wondering if this will settle it down instead of replacing the part itself. BTW, my local dealer did not charge me for the part (Invoice was for $55 plus $2 for the gasket) I explained that this is warentee work, either by Honda for the original work or the part that was replaced. He said he agreed and would let the mechanic argue with Honda. We'll see how long this one lasts 21,000 miles.
