ptxyz
i installed these several months ago but, have been thinking metal ones might be more durable. who's had these plastic motion-pro ones for several years?
Zero Knievel
I went with Jiffy-tite.
redxxrdr
GEisme3, Bill had plastic ones OEM on his K1200RS. They failed on one of our rides and sprayed down his leg and exhaust. No fire, luckily. Beemer switched to metal connectors later. I don't know about that specific brand, but plastic and fuel concern me. Edit: we also use a simular looking connector on our detector coolant systems. Just distilled water and antifungal solution. Again, manufacture unknown. After Six years or so, the plastic hardens, and breaks with the slightest movement. Edited September 8, 2016 by redxxrdr
superhawk996
The right plastic and gas don't concern me. Putting that plastic fitting where a lot of heat will be is a concern. Cars have many plastic fuel fittings that last forever, but none are put in the engine compartment as far as I can recall. Putting one on an old school bike's petcock out in the wind would probably be ok. The bird's tank is shielded from engine heat but not enough for me to fully trust plastic, I'd go metal. ptxyz
these (motion-pro) are exposed to heat between the bottom of the tank and the rear of the motor. redxxrdr, how old was that bimmer? just to be safe, i'll consider these a replacement item in the next few years. thanks for the input! I forgot to ask Bill, but it has to be a 2002/2003. Failed 2010/2011? He just put in a barbed connector, no quick disconnect. cheaper, and he rarely needs to pull the tank anyway.
