DerekJaworski
Can anyone tell me what these tubes are for, and where to hook them up? I had the bike going yesterday with no problems at all. Today they are just pissing fuel all over the place. They are #29 on the diagram below. The ones with the band on them.
srideaux
These are fuel bowl vent hoses, they are open to the atmosphere. if you have fuel coming from these, there is a float stuck open, this can be caused by several things none of them good. the most common cause is trash in the fuel that has worked its way past the filter and has gotten stuck at the needle and seat, so your engine is flooding. now you are looking at removing the float bowles, removing the floats, to get access to the needles, this is tedious work requiring specialised tools.and hours of work if done properly. Since I have no idea of your skill lever with these carburetors, I can only urge you to defer to a Qualified Honda Tech.. This could also have been caused by a mis routed hose. Good luck, I will be interested to hear what was actually wrong with it.
DerekJaworski
OK. Thanks. That's a good start. I'm pretty experienced with that kind of tedious work. What are these fuel filters you speak of?! Haha just kidding, but I don't have a filter, and I did do a good amount of body work to the tank. So it's most likely my own fault. I'll be tearing the carbs apart tomorrow now. I was going to wait til winter to rebuild them, but I guess the time has come. I'll let you know what I find out. Good insight though. Thanks. DerekJaworski
Wile we are on this subject. Should there be a return line of any sort? Or do those not exist on gravity feed systems?

This is correct and it isn't that hard to do if you take your time. 12 hours ago, DerekJaworski said: . I was going to wait til winter to rebuild them, but I guess the time has come. What is the problem with the carbs that they need rebuilt? 12 hours ago, DerekJaworski said: What are these fuel filters you speak of?! Yea, there is no fuel filter per say on a carbed Bird except for the sock in the tank. Edited August 27, 2016 by blackhawkxx
superhawk996
There's a filter in the tank. You could try giving the bowls a few taps with something, might cure the stuck float. I usually only see stuck floats when something sits a long time and a few taps usually fixes them, your case is different so it may not work, but it's an easy thing to try. DerekJaworski
As it turns out, a float was cracked, and filled up with gas. I should have know when I saw JB Weld on the housing. I put a new one in there and she runs like a champ. I guess I don't have to rebuild yet. Now I can spend the good days riding. : ) I only want to rebuild them because I'd like to change the jets, and swap out the busted carb. This bike is a restoration project. It has been wrecked a time or two from the previous owner. One step at a time, and I'll have the bike of my dreams in no time at all! I've only had the bird for month or so. Here are the before and after pics.

Warp11XX
Caution....danger, danger Will Robinson.... If the float was stuck to the point that it was "just pissing fuel all over the place" , check the crankcase and cylinders for fuel intrusion before cranking. It just might save your engine.... And change the oil to get the gas out if any did make it in.
