mansoor
Team: The color in the reservoir next to the clutch is darker compared to the brake fluid reservoir. Question is what color is it supposed to be? I am in the office, I can probably add a picture tonight when I get home. Mansoor
jon haney
It should be a nice light oil color like vegetable oil. If it is more of a brown color, it needs to be replaced. Check your rear brake reservoir fluid also.
rockmeupto125
Its the exact same fluid as the brake reservoir. It should be clear, and have a tint ranging from colorless to a moderate yellow or light honey color (think of Corona beer). The change in color from nearly clear to an amber bock is a symptom of degradation of the fluid. This can make a difference with your braking, but most people aren't affected by the same phenomena in the clutch circuit, and the clutch fluid is not changed with the same frequency as the brake fluid. If you're big into maintainance, you could bleed out the clutch, replacing the fluid in the process. You may notice a more positive clutch feel. Its one of those winter projects....not a real priority when you could be out riding instead.
RC Randy
If it hasn't been changed for awhile and is real dark, it will stain the sight glass, and will look dirty even when it is clean.
willxx23
Dot 5.1 stays clearer than 4.0 as much as four times longer at least in my findings.
runner
I run the Motul...it was a winter project for clutch oil change. I noticed a slight increase in clutch feel. Like it was stated above, darker color likely means its time for a change...took me all of 15 minutes with the Minivac suction gun...
