N1K
Hey TJ, Have you done any research on water intake? Is there such a thing as too much? I drink a TON of water, and I wondered if possibly I drink too much? your thoughts?
RodeRash
The International Sports Medicine Institute recomends an active person drink (daily)2/3 oz. water per pound of body weight. For you Nik, thats around 6 liters. I have not heard of a max amount of water. I think you would just piss off what is not needed. I saw an article in the paper recently about dangers of drinking to much water, but I think you can find some study to prove whatever agenda you currently support. How much water a day do you drink? Did you cut out the milk from your diet yet? If so, have you noticed any changes ? Edit: I found the article
sprack
There's also this: http://www.hhp.ufl.edu/keepingfit/ARTICLE/...oomuchwater.htm
N1K
I'd have to measure it out. I'm probably at about 1.5 gallons a day. Of just water. I haven't removed the milk yet. I want to replace the protein with nuts, but I haven't gotten my bulk order of nuts yet. My mom goes thru a mail order and gets these HUGE things of almonds. As soon as I get that, I'm gonna make the switch. I'm looking forward to it, I'll keep you posted. thanks for the article links.. I will read them tomorrow! nik
SwampNut
You can actually die from drinking too much water, but I think the number is around 3-4 gallons in 4 hours or so. You can deplete electrolytes by drinking too much, but you're right in the range, Nik. I drink 4-5 liters per day, and while I have to piss often, I notice I don't feel as good if I short-change myself on water intake. Most people are mildly dehydrated. Few people drink enough water. If you're low-carb, drinking enough water is even more important.
spEEdfrEEk
Hey TJ, Yo bud! Whatcha got for me? Have you done any research on water intake? A little bit. Is there such a thing as too much? Yep, there can be. However, it takes a VERY significant amount. You'd probably have to get yourself a 55 gallon drum and a straw --- if you know what I mean. I drink a TON of water, and I wondered if possibly I drink too much? Lemme put it this way. As a bodybuilder, you're trying to increase muscle cell size as much as possible. Cellular fluid becomes a big issue (pardon the pun). Each gram of stored muscle glycogen carries 4 grams of H2o with it.. (hence the "hydrate" part of "carbohydrate"). So, if you're using the post workout grape juice + protein thing you need to make sure to chase it with atleast 4 times as much water as the grape juice (basically). Keep in mind that, if you sweat profusely during workouts, you'll need to take in that much more. Hold off until the end of your workout if you can, and then load all of your water at that point. It will give you a better insulin-rebound effect and at the same time prevent the nausea that can accompany a full stomach when lifting. I consume atleast 5-6 16 oz. bottles of teas, waters, and cool-aids each day. That should give you an idea about what your baseline would be... TJ
N1K
I drink 4-5 liters per day, and while I have to piss often, I notice I don't feel as good if I short-change myself on water intake. Thanks guys... What made me wonder was because I'm pissing about once an hour it seems. Maybe its not quite that much... maybe once every 2 hours.... made me wonder if I drank too much water. I think I'm about good. I feel like a slouch running to you guys with questions instead of doing some research, but seriously, thanks for your expertise! SwampNut
Wish I could go two hours between trips to the pisser. Only time I do is when I know I'm dehydrating myself.
azxr
I was just in to see the doc and the issue of water intake came up. I was a once a day pisser, unless drinking beer. He told me I was not drinking enough and I should be pissing about every 2 or 3 hours. I now drink about 1.5 gallons a day and am meeting my new quota. So every two hours for you sounds about what he told me.
N1K
Yeah, Carlos's statement about most people being dehydrated is totally true. Even up until summer of 02, I drank next to nothing except what I drank with meals... Its amazing how dehydrated I was constantly, without even knowing it. spEEdfrEEk
Thanks guys... No sweat bud! What made me wonder was because I'm pissing about once an hour it seems. Maybe its not quite that much... maybe once every 2 hours.... The frequency isn't that big of a deal. To be honest, a better indicator of trouble in the urinary tract is the color of the urine stream. It should be as clear and odorless as possible. If it's super dark yellow and pungent, that could be a sign of problems. (unless you've just taken a large dose of vitamins or something..) made me wonder if I drank too much water.I think I'm about good. Once every two hours isn't a big deal at all. I go much more frequently than that -- however, I'm also stricly low-carb/keto/paleo which means I retain very little H2o I feel like a slouch running to you guys with questions instead of doing some research, but seriously, thanks for your expertise! No sweat bud.. No point in re-inventing the wheel, ya know? That's the reason I dish out this info in the first place, so people don't have to cut through all of the flotsam and jetsam to find the facts.. (like I did) TJ
buettner
TJ, One thing I have found with high/normal water consumption is that my allergies are not as prevelent and my sinuses are not as congested. I have noticed that when drinking more soft drinks and less water both issues seem to be worse.
