G2
My new AV46 is out-of-round with an 1/8" variance from high to low. The bead indicator is fine on the left of the tire but is slightly further away from the rim lip on the right side (but not 1/8"!) and it matches up with the high spot. Rigged up a makeshift gage with the bike on the centerstand. (two cinderblocks, piece of wood sticking out) Ass end is hopping like a rabbit trying to pass an undigested loggerheaded carrot at anything under 55 mph. Tires Unlimited suggested I have the tire rotated 180 deg on the rim first. "Match mounting"??? I'm having trouble with the concept. Sure if it's a balance problem but it's obviously not. Should I pay the shop another $25-30 to find out? Didn't someone else have a similar issue and had a new tire sent to them? Was it Carlos? Any and all input welcome. SwampNut
Yes, I had that issue. If it is truly out of round, then matching does nothing. Be sure that is true, then insist on a replacement. I can put you in touch with Avon if there's a problem getting it replaced.
G2
Thanks Carlos, I'll ride by the shop to see if they'll back me up when dealing with Tires Unlimited. G2
Northman
I had a 35 front that had a vibration. Couldn't find anything wrong with the tire, and had it balanced several times. Finally put a few hundred miles on it, and a lateral crease showed up in the tread. Either a belt overlap issue, or the way the tire was strapped down in the load at one time? Anyway, Avon was happy to replace it, but I returned it to my dealer in exchange for other goods as I preferred my 39 on the front.
G2
Tires Unlimited is replacing my tire. I still have to pay to ship the defective tire back and tire mounting costs. (shop should give me a break) Time spent running around is the biggest inconvenience. G2
SwampNut
Did you buy the tire and take it to the shop, or did you order it via the shop? If you bought it at the shop, they should just warranty it altogether. It's part of the cost of doing business, and why they charge more money than mail order. If you ordered it yourself, well, that's part of the risk of saving money...
