Hookman49 Posted July 16, 2003 Share Posted July 16, 2003 Ok I know that this has been covered before but can't remember. I have a dark windscreen on my XX and going to mount my Escort 8500. Does the the dark smoke reduce the distance of my radar detector range? Should I put my Givi screen back on? Really like the smoke windscreen because you cant see the unit and I can put my helmet over the thing if by chance I got pulled over. Any thoughts? Actually unless you have a square lid there is a chance the "Stealthy" bird may bounce the laser so it maybe a real warning. I have the LP dark tint screen it still picks up laser assaults. Think about the HARD system if you order both at radar busters.com you get a healthy deal and then even more off if you tell him your a member here. I use the Valentine 1 it doesn’t have a simple ear piece hook up like the 8500, but the bogey counter and directions is great, I've noticed down here is SoCal the cunning local Plod hide in spots where K-band is pouring out of buildings to disguise themselves in false alarms. I have to believe they sit around eating Bagels in the morning planning these attacks on us. I also just mount it with the windshield mount its been solid and never fallen off, I take it out of holster when parked up, takes 5 seconds. SwampNut Posted July 17, 2003 Share Posted July 17, 2003 LASER is not microwave--it's light in the infrared part of the spectrum. A dark shield WILL obscure that. You can put a RADAR detector under plastic without effect, but I'm not sure if the metal flake in the paint would affect it. I know LASER is not microwave but I wonder just how bad the microwave detection would be uner the painted plastics. Obviously in plain sight would be the best solution with absolutely nothing blocking its collection device. SwampNut Posted July 18, 2003 Share Posted July 18, 2003 Heh, that's called a Waveguide, and it's how all microwave-range emitters/receivers work. You'll find one in your microwave oven too.
