bartonmd
THIS GUY! (and I guess everybody else who's replaced a CCT) Had a tick, especially when cold, that I was getting worried may be a valve out of adjustment, but since it was only from right above idle to 4k or so, I was hoping it was the CCT... Replaced it with a 2-green-dot CCT from the Service Honda and the clicking stopped completely! Also, I found a way to still use the screwdriver/clip that comes in the new CCT to get the old one out... I put a towel on my vice and LIGHTLY held the CCT in the new CCT in the vice and took the stamped steel screwdriver thing out and used it to lock the old CCT from fully extending, and then put it back in the new one after I got the old one out... worked like a charm! bartonmd
from 1500 to maybe 4000rpm... kindof a "clack-clack-clack" once per rev... that'd be it... your bike's got, what, 20-25k on it? Mine's got like 19,600 on it... Mike

bonox
does this 2 green dot model have a different part number, or do you ask for it by name?
XXTi
It does have a different part number. It's a -315. I think it's the only one Honda sells now.

SLY DVL
I've got this annoying "buzzy" type sound @ about 3800 - 4000 rpm. Almost sounds like a lose fairing bolt or plastic rattling but all is tight. Have had this for about 15K Km now. I have 32K Km on the XX. Suspect CCT? LongHaul
I've got this annoying "buzzy" type sound @ about 3800 - 4000 rpm. Suspect CCT? Yes. I've heard it described as marbles banging around in there. Described mine exactly. Comes from the right side. YMMV, but after about 7k mile on my new, two dot CCT, I am begining to hear it again. Whatever. I've never heard of any type of serious failure. Just noisy is all. SLY DVL
CCT = Cam Chain Tensioner The chain that drives your camshaft(s) from your crankshaft. Kev
DSRbikes
CCT = Cam Chain TensionerThe chain that drives your camshaft(s) from your crankshaft. Kev aahhh, I just turned 26K on my 99. I'll listen for it I guess. Is it something that comes on gradually or fairly quickly? :needpics: Mike, you didn't happen to take some pics of yourself changing that out did you? and the little trick you describe? bartonmd
It's between $25 and $30... Mike
AXXKicker
not to beat a dead horse into the ground, but could it also sound like a front wheel bearing? i'm at just less than 10k on my 2003, and i can hear it at lower speeds.
Mr dos equis
It might, it's probably your cct if it happens during the same part of the rev range as described above. I changed mine at just over 11k and again at 21k. It gets worst deccelerating and it sounds like marbles in your valve train.
beondwacko
I did mine this last sunday. It was more work to pull off the fairing on the right side than it was to change the CCT. It's quieter, and maybe smoother too.
cleggben
Change your oil, Put the right stuff in and all your noises will disappear
bartonmd
nope, didn't for me... I have run Mobil 1 10W40 and Amsoil 10W40, and it didn't change... changing the CCT got rid of all but the "normal" motorcycle noises... arcticflipper
I don't hear any clicking when the bike is going at any speed, only when it gets hot and idles. Is this the sound you are talking about? 2002 XX with 34800 miles on the dail....
