Power Commander and Radar Detector Mounting

I just bought a escort passport radar detector 8500 . I would like to know from the people that have mounted radar detectors. How did you mount the radar detector to keep it from bouncing around. I would also like to know if any body has hard wired the detector and where is the best place to splice into the wiring harness. My next question is on the power commander whats the best way to mount it under the seat. I put micron slip ons on my bird what kind of power gains am I looking at with the micron slip-ons-K&n air filter and the power commander. Just a heads up for people that ride or drive in Oregon . The fines for speeding are going to go up again in September. Any information would be helpful. Thanks BB Kid :?: :?: :?:

As far as the radar detector, you can purchase a variety of mounts that will put it in your windsheild. SOme mount to your clutch or brake resos, some mount right to the windshield. Some mount in the well nut on your triple tree. I mounted my Valentine thusly:

The wire ran down under the right side fairing and spliced into the harness near the battery on a line that is only hot when the bike is on. I have since removed that and wired in a PowerLet outlet, which I run from my tank bag, and just use the cigarette lighter adapter for the detector. There is velcro on that platform and the bottom of the detector, and for peace of mind I will slip a large black ziptie around it just to make sure it doesn't move, which you can also see in the picture. Haven't had a single problem with that mount yet, though once every few thousand miles I go over it and tighten up the screws. Took me from Chicago to California and back with no trouble and ran flawlessly the whole way.

industrial strength double sticky velcro on top of tankbag plus i use a small bungee across the top. Super secure and tankbag acts like an absorber. I've rigged one of those small ziploc bags to slip over in light rain and in heavy rain stuff in tankbag in ziploc (still works).

Koss earplug speakers tipped w Moldex Rocket earplugs for audio alert makes one ready to rock'n'roll...

Sidenote:

Brian, on your advice, to someone else, I did this a few months ago and it works excellently. But I didn't buy the Koss cuz I was a Radio Shack and noticed their brand ear buds looked exactly the same as the Koss, color and all. Might not be as good quality, but I figured running the sound thru an ear plug was going to muffle the sound anyway. So I modified the rockets, they fit great, and with a dab of contact cement they don't come apart as I rip my helmet off.

Thanks, for the suggestion.
