xfuctx
i OVERESTIMATED my twistie accessability, so iv squared the rear in no time Haa haa I wear out my side before my centers! Go west young man, Go west!  Hay Hay easy easy, im still recovering from HJS (Hookers Jelousy Syndrome). To give you an idea of the twisties in MASS, I have to ride 1/2 an hour to get to some roads that you cali guys would avoid like a frost heave to get to your Teton thingies. XXSIVSPD
If you take a harder compound tire like the Avons or the Pilot Roads and drop the pressure in the twisties, can you get them to heat up enough to stick really, really well?
silverbird1100
Yes, that's probably the best compromise but the less aggressive profile will still be the same. The michilins just don't like to lean and for me, trashes my confidence. If I were and expert rider I'd probably stick with them.

Problem with that is turnin! Ya they stick because the contact patch is bigger but you sacrafice your flickbility and corner stability. Northman
Try the Z6 rear, trust me on that. Turns much easier than the 46, and has a lot more grip, too.
BDAZ XX
But can I get it in a 330? We saw a 330 fatty at Laguna yesterday. Man would it look good on the XX! As long as you NEVER turn, it would be the Bling of Blings!
Northman
Would definitely eliminate the need for a sidestand, anyway!
TOXXIC
Not much input on the Dunlops. I really like how quickly they heat up and stick. However, they are such a short life tire, especially after a couple burnouts. From my limited point of view, Dunlops look really soft, (like Mac's cock) and the Avon's look really HARD, (like Jerry and Randy's Viagra induced hard-ons.) silverbird1100
If you took the 220 profile, pilot construction and 020 compound you'd have the perfect tire.
02XXCA
What kind of Metzlers are you running? Metz Sporttech M1's Obby. Great turn in and grip. I cleaned off the pussy strips 1st run on them. Chris I agree, long distance and easy riding (semi agressive  ) they are OK. I ride way to hard to "trust" them after loosing the rear (sliding) as many times as I have with these tires, in and out of corners. The front, well you seen it, was loose and pushed a few times the last run with Paully and Sean. They just dont give me the level of confidence I need, the way I ride. I've been really happy with Avons. I did try the 45/46 combo and have switched to the 49/46 and have never pushed the front on the 49 front even following you. I think it would be worth a set of 49/50 to see if you are able to push them Randy. I know you ride more aggressively and I would love to hear your opinion. Mykl
My RC51 killed a rear M1 every 2000 miles. I wish I could let myself go with something more aggressive than the Avon 45/46 combo for the XX. I'm sure that'd make my runs up highway 28 to Deal's Gap all that much more fun. Maybe when I get out of an apartment and into a house where I'll have a place to do tire changes I'll try something more sticky.
Red J
You guys are goin' on about Michelin Pilots, I assume you're all on Roads? What about the Power? I hear it lasts longer than the old Sports, but not quite as long as the roads.
blackhawkxx
Any of you guys run the Bridgestone 014? That is what I am running and I really like them. They are not going to run high mileage but they seem to stick really well.
twodealdrive
I've got the Avon combo on my BB now and have notice only a little slippage getting a drive out of the corners. They've been right to the edge, (not as often as I'd like, the middle is starting to flatin' out) so I've been happy with them. I used to own a ZX-11, similar to the BB in weight and hp and the combo that was sweet on that bike was the Bridgestone BT-010 in the front and BT-020 in the rear. Has anybody ever tried that combo on the Bird?
Mykl
I'm really curious to hear about the mileage people can get out of Pilot Powers. If I can get 4000-5000 miles out of a rear, I think I could be content with the longevity. Also, concerning tire slippage and the Avons... aside from as a result of a few ham fisted downshifts I haven't been able to get my rear tire to lose grip. What I do experience is understeer. Maybe it's because I'm taking the wrong line, or my front suspension is worse off than the rear suspension is, but when I start rolling on the juice my bike always starts to push wide well before the rear gives me any negative vibes. As you can see in my signature, I am pretty aggressive.

My RC51 killed a rear M1 every 2000 miles. Mykl you need to set your suspension up alittle better or have someone do it for you. If your pushing coming out of a corner, raise your forks a mm or 3 and see if it helps. Mines raised 5mm in the triples and the back is up 7-8mm. She handles and corners quite well for a heavy fat pig! I run through a set of tires on the RC every 2000-2500 miles, its normal for the tire eaten RC with me anyway. I run soft to medium tires on her all the time.

I didn't know any different, but apparently the stock rear spring is red, and the spring on mine is blue. I have absolutely no idea if it's harder or softer or whatever... So really it's hard telling what exactly is going on with my bike. I have the rear raised about 5mm's and I haven't messed with the front. The suspension is five years old with nearly 30,000 miles on it so I'm thinking about doing some major work to it soon.
