SwampNut Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 It's unbelievably stupid that they had this market controlled, but the providers want their extra profit and FDA obliged. There was enough push to get this down however. I'm currently using one of the early test releases, which were just a regular CGM with a label, and far lower cost. So damn stupid. 2 Quote
azxr Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 How long are they good for? I see a wire has to be inserted under the skin. Does it have to be replaced on a reqular basis? Quote
SwampNut Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 Mine are ten days and 12.5 hours, the new no-RX ones are 15 days. The wire is auto-inserted when you put it on and is tiny. You don't feel it. It's applied with an automatic tool, foolproof. Put it on your skin, press the button, and a spring blasts it on. A magnet signals it to enable Bluetooth. You scan a QR code to pair it on your phone/Watch. I wear cover patches because I'm active and damage them otherwise. Quote
blackhawkxx Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Can you place them anywhere on you and what will be the cost (if you know)? Quote
SwampNut Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 Not really anywhere, you need an area with fat because you don't want the insertion needle going into muscle or a bone. They are tested and approved on the upper arm, thighs, and upper ass area. I've tried it on a calf too. It took a while to figure out how to not rip them off while doing things. The non-prescription will be under $100/mo. 2 Quote
SwampNut Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 The scam... Base price of the G7 monitor is $450 for one month, which is three of them. You can get coupons for around $200 off if you say you are uninsured. Sam's discounts them for premium members to around $180 or $190. I found a place to get them for less for non-diabetic usage. Now there's a non-prescription model being marketed with a new name. Same hardware. It should last 15.5 days, but it not guaranteed, could be as little as 12. However it's nearly always 14-15 days. The other one is rated for ten days guaranteed. Same hardware, it's just a failure rate thing. Here's the price on the version that is marketed for people who don't REALLY need it. $84/mo. Quote
SwampNut Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Ahhh, fuck, that's why they are cheaper. The new sensors are black. Quote
02XXCA Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 (edited) I tried the Stelo sensors for a month and only got about 10-11 days out of the first one before the readings went haywire. Was interesting to see blood sugar changes based on what I consumed. The one problem of the stelo app is that did not have a way to run longer report or go back past 24 hours in time for comparison. SwampNut Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 I don't know anything about the new app (it's not the Dexcom app?), but does it sync to Dexcom Clarity, the Dexcom site, or to Apple Health? My main app won't give me a very long view either, but syncs data to the apps/site/Healthkit and is visible that way. Did you use a patch cover? Quote

I used the Stelo app and did not sync it to any other apps. Yes, ended up using a patch cover as I was worried it would not stay stuck. Quote

I will be fucking pissed if it doesn't sync on a modern phone. And I joined a diabetic support program thing, just to get them, but they want to ... "support" me. So far, meh, they are telling me to fix things I fixed years ago. "How do you know how to do that?" Um, not a fucking retard? Quote
