  1. Need right side mirror glass w/ bracket. Tried to replace broken glass only from mirror shop, but their glue bled through...Really annoying smudges that come from behind. Anyone? Thanks!
  2. Thanks Joe. On long trips, I like to stretch out a bit and this is an issue. I've noticed that it doesn't take much more than a finger to keep it in check, but that's one finger too many. I'm pretty sure that the problem likes w/ the front tire and that the bags amplify it. The tire only has a 1000 miles on it - It's one of the BTxx tires. I'll post back when I look at it - Either a 10 or 20 (think I may have mixed them on this bike). What tires do you have? -John
  3. I've done a bit of searching, and haven't found much to be conclusive. My bike gets a bad shake up front when the bags are attached. Even a bit when it's just the rack. (Thanks Peter ) We spent 2 hours last week checking the front end, tire alignment, etc. and finally tried the bags on / bags off. (Note to self - check the stupid sh_t first). Can go "hands free" with no rack. Almost hands free with the rack. Not a chance in hello with any of the bags on (top or sides). Anything I can tweak to resolve this issue? I can't even zip up my jacket without losing control - It's that fast.
  4. I took 1/2 of the garmin (GPS V) mount (auto) and used a little 3m 2 sided tape on the clutch cylinder cap. Drilled a couple of holes to provide access to the cap screws and routed the power cord down to the battery. Looks good when the unit's on (I use it on multiple vehicles and bikes) and so-so when off. Not worried about unit falling off, since the tape is secure. Biggest issue was positioning it to clear the windshield on right turns. 1/4" clearance, at best. Had to turn the antenna down (swivels). With the horizontal landscape view, it looks like it was made for the bike, and I had about $20 in it. I have good pics, but I don't know how to post them.
  5. I don't use mobile one, or any synthetic... When I get going on the bike, it's hard to slow down. Could that be the oil???
  6. I picked up a set of full Akras for my 97, in great shape, for about $450 used (Ebay). Terrific sound, but not too loud. Seems like a totally different bike! Keep in mind that you will probably have to put a PCIII on it to use aftermarket pipes. That'll add some coin to your setup.
  7. I'm pretty sure there's a black market for that item. Please keep an eye on it. I believe mine was stolen sometime back, along with the tool kit, since I can't remember the last time I saw either. I'll have to file a police report, I suppose...
  8. VFR Boards... ...suck, man. I mean - I can't understand how they get things done. (If anyone has a link to a good one, clue me in!) Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the quick replies. I've had this bike ('97) since '98 (when they made the fast ones1). That year, we took the trip to Asheville, and my (over-abused) back barely put up with the 14 hr day  . I have considered the Heli Bars, but find them very expensive for the return you get. Others have stated that they are not impressed with the look of the Heli's. Do you gain more from the VFR bars than the Heli? Do they look better? Thanks!
  10. Which VFR bars fit the XX and why are they used on the XX?

    Upgrades

I got a great set of Akra pipes (full) on EBay for about $425 - Sounds great! I had to lose my centerstand, though I've read that you can mod the stand to work with them. The entire system weighs less than 1 can on the stock!
  12. Same as subject. I want to take a trip from Cleveland, OH SW to SanDiego, up the PCH to Seattle and back home. Figure about 3 weeks to do so. Is that a good estimate for just under 8k miles? Any suggestions on stopping points? 1st night will be in St. Louis (family). Heading towards Phoenix, gotta do the Grand Canyon camping thing (2 nights, never been), San Diego (2 nights, friends), Seattle. The rest is open, though Chicago will be my last night before home. Need to be flexible, for weather, etc. Just replaced the CCT (should I bring another?). Thinking about bringing a new regulator (need suggestions). Want to know what else to bring, within reason. What else? Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!
  13. That's OK - Joe sent me one - I opened the bag... Found the Key - Pulled it out... Locked it up - Lost the key... DID THAT ALL IN 5 MINUTES... Spent 1/2 an hour getting it unlocked w/ a paperclip that I bent using only my teeth - Pretty sure I chipped a tooth... Got it reset and put it back in the bag - Still can't find the key... Wrote an email to Joe chastising him for not telling me about the key... Way too much excitement for one week - Gonna do the install next week.
  14. I have the full system on a 97 carb and it made me keep my XX. Like a new bike! I ride it more than my new VTX1800R (anyone want to buy a VTX w/ 3000 miles?). I did the KN filter and jet kit, as well. Major loss of weight - the entire system weighs less than one stock can. I may have to load up the front to keep the wheel on the ground. BTW - I picked mine up on EBay for about $450 shipped.
