  1. Shop called me and said the left fork tube is pitted and is working the left seal. Said OEM left fork tube and seal need to go on. Nice expense....as long as I don't see anymore leaking on that left side.
  2. Well somthing obviously isn't right since the left seal started leaking with only 12K mi on the bike. And now that both are replaced (seals), doing it again at 18K mi. I have zero experience with forks, seals...etc. The speed shop that has it is supposedly the best in the area and been around for 20yrs and only work on sportbikes and the owner is a racer......so I'd think they could get to the bottom of the problem........have to wait and here what they say Mon or Tues.
  3. Had the fork seals replaced in this past May by speed shop after noticed left seal leaking oil. The other day the same seal I noticed was leaking again (around 6K more miles now on the bike). Same shop now has it. They originally put the Ohlins springs in the forks last September. I'm guessing that maybe this had something to do with it. Of course they'll never admit to anything. Anyone know what could be causing the left fork seal to leak? I don't wheelie the bike at at all or anything stupid. Bike won't be looked at until Mon. thx,
  4. What's this "kms" crap? You might as well type in chinese..... :icon_duh: Well bike is back from the mechanic...sprocket/chain are good he said. Got brake, clutch flushed, new plugs, valve check, new Pirelli Diablo Strada's all the way around.....felt great riding it home. To celebrate the fresh service on the XX, I parked it in the garage and took out the Bonneville all day today! If I typed in Spanish, then would you understand? Si porque entiendo espanol pero kilometros? Pincha puerco!
  5. Just got my bike back other day after 16K service and new rubber. Do a lot of slab riding so Stradas put on after sitting in the garage for 4 months. So far they're very smooth. I'll haven't leaned hard on them yet so no idea how they'll be in the tight turns. Man my bike is running good though. XX rocks!

  7. My original had 23k on it, and was in GOOD shape, and was still toward the "new" end of the adjustment... I just replaced it this spring because I didn't want to worry about the chain on my trips this summer... I will say that I also ride in a lot of rain and salt/sand in the winter too, and it wasn't maintained at all for the first 5k miles, before I got it... I just spray the Honda lube on every ~300 miles, or after I ride in a good rain, and it's good to go... Mike My XX has never been ridden in the rain yet.
  8. Bike is in for 16K service at speed shop. Shop said chain/sprocket look fine. I've noticed no real tight spots and have been cleaning/lubing religously every 400-500 miles since I got the bike w/1600 mi. Admit the last 4K mi or so have been primarily highway. Anyone have 20K on their original chain?
  9. thanks for the feedback, fellers. I'm gonna replace the rear soon. Compared to Tim's pick....my tires looks new.
  10. Rain.....what's that? Yeah and Tim.....looks like your rear was just getting broken in (tire that is).....
  11. My rear Pilot Power is juuuuuust about at the wear bars in the middle. I usually replace my tires before it even gets this close. Putting on new tires next week. Mostly do 200 miles hwy until then.....imagine pushing them hard in the corners not the best idea...even if the sides have a lot more tread left. Is it that big a deal to ride on them at or near the wear bars? Thx, B
  12. Yoshi's suck. Throw em' away and get a set of Scorpions. Sound AWESOME!
  13. I suggest you move to CA....and deal with those COLD 50 degree rides I have to deal with in the dead of winter. But when I lived on the east coast, I rode to work in 30 degree temps with heated widder gloves....and hate to say it.....a GL1800.....only bike I could comfortably ride in the 40s w/out heated anything. If I was still back east, I wouldn't bother riding in the 20s-30s again. The 20 minute prep of putting on all the goddamn layers, plugging in my gloves.....then taking the shit off once I got to the office and doing it all again when I leave = Fuck that. Rather just hop in my car that I only drove on a regular basis in the winter anyway. I couldn't imagine wanting to ride the Bird in 30 degrees. I know heated gear would work....except on your head. But I would say fuck it royally.
  14. We'll find out. I ordered a pack plus a few oil filters.....Birdie needs oil change.
  15. 14MM is 14MM right? Honda crush washer for oil drain plug on the GL1800. Sold in a 10 pack. FREE SHIPPING. 94109-14000 14mm Our Price: $3.24
  16. Lubing chain, wiping down the bike, changing the oil. Best method for washing these rags after use? I won't put them in the washing machine as they're just too dirty and dirty that thing up. I've been soaking them in a bucket of detergent and water for a day or so and then taking them out and letting them just sorta dry out on some cardboard. Anyone have some other methods they use? Thx, B
  17. After adjustment definitely not in the "replace" area...has a little way to go before that.
  18. That was a good thread. However, I think I probably sent the adjusters in the wrong direction after tightening the axle. I've cleaned/lubed the chain religiously since 1600 mi when I got the bike. No red dust on the chain at all.
  19. I "think" I did.....but usually I'm an idiot so I always use the manual or documentation when I adjust the chain.....this time I did not. I may have screwed them clockwise....... I'll do it correctly tonight and test ride it and hopefully I'll be set...... thx for the post, Mike.
  20. Bird has 14500 mi. w/orig chaing Tightened and lubed chain @ 14100 mi...since it had a bit too much slack. No real kinks in the chain.... Got back from a 100 mi ride Sun and checked the chain and it was basically resting on the centerstand...it came completely loose. The right fastener bolt was not tight. When I adjusted it.....I torqued the axle bolt to spec and tightened the fasteners....I havened checked the axle bolt yet but by hand, doesn't seem loose. My chain is close but not at the "new chain" section of the swingarm. Just wondering how the bolt/chain got so loose?? Is it a sign I need a new chain? Thx, B
  21. Will, unlike you, I'm very non-squidly so wheelies were not the cause. Well Lee's has the bike....$217 or so to do replace both L and R seals. So no bikie to ride for now.
  22. Dunno if that's for both or not.....I'll have to ask
  23. Riding in today, looked down at my forks at a stoplight. Left fork around the seal is moist with oil. Right one is bone dry. Bike has 13500 mi. I called the speed shop that put my ohlins springs in @ 2500 miles. They told me to bring it in and that I may have a blown seal which is about $250 to replace. First off....I'm NOT gonna do the work myself.....don't have the time....and have no interest. I change the oil....that's it. So please no DIY instructions. I just would like some opinions: 1-Is is reasonable to expect a seal to go at 13500 miles? 2-Could it be the result of the forks not being installed correctly? I doubt this as this speed shop is the most respected in my area by far for the last 20 years. Thx for any input. I'm supposed to take it by the shop todday.
  24. ++1 I couldn't get mine loose either when I got my XX. Got a breaker bar and and a pack of heavy duty sockets. The axle nut will loosen noooooooooo problem.
