  1. The string would be exactly double the length of one half to an end.
  2. A very good thread to read ,, glad it was here to read ,, helped me out a bit ,, thanks all.
  3. Honda's security system used on Euro (and Oz/UK) bikes. Bugger !! think i just found out that the US models didn't have HISS .
  4. Hi Guys , Am looking at trying to locate a particular wire on my bike , white with a red stripe. looks like the only place it appears on schematics is european bikes to an immobilizer. I notice on the US model bike it doesn't have an immobilizer so am going to guess that the immobilizer has nothing to do with HISS. Can anyone enlighten me please ?
  5. That's correct , I am located in VN. Great memory there Red. I am flatout remembering what day of the week it is. It may be alright , if I can't find a replacement item , I may see if i can find a place to send it to for checking. Either OZ ,UK or the States. If I post it , I may as well post it anywhere. I am still suffering from this clown melting my wiring last year.
  6. 21 litres for 240 km ,, lets see ,,divide by ,, add , multiply, carry the 3 ,,, yep ,, 27mpg ,, thats what i get on an average day ,,,gets worse if I give er. 01 FI with a k&N ,, just put a 4-1 on it , don't know yet what difference it makes economy wise ,, but shag my brown dog if it isn't a lot quicker.
  7. As mentioned before , my numbers don't match anything from Honda and am going off the paint code to assume I have an 01 BB. Could have been stolen , could have just been changed to suit existing paperwork. I'd take the latter myself but you never now. If i know the bike is FI , Digital Dash, has the test connector block. I am still gonna go with 2001. So , to order a wiring harness and an ECU can anyone tell me ,, would it make any difference to get anything from 2001 onwards ? From what I have read they should be very much the same. Any advice or ideas ? Also , does anyone know of a place that will send out an ECU with chipped yet blank keys ? If i fit a new ECU i'd have to get keys to suit my ignition wouldn't I ? So obviously blanks would be handy. Thanks,, Will continue using the search function to see ifi can find some useful information.
  8. It's a common problem here with roadside tyre repairers buying nails and screws and seeding the roads in front of them. Their are even people who "rake" the roads at night to get the scrap for steel value. Most it is said sell it to the scrap merchants ,, some however recycle it straight back to the tyre repairers who re-seed the roads. hence I have had a few screws.nails in my tyre. only used the glued plug and although theres not the room to often open it up , i have never had a failure. I know ,, you guys are gonna find that story hard to believe , but their was even a story in the local paper of a guy making this great magnet broom and he would walk the hiway at night and retrieve kilos of the rubbish ,,, what bloody hope have ya got !!!!
  9. Well , had an issue with my fan not coming on , it had a manual switch on it. Rode it up the road to the only mechanic in vietnam who knows big bikes. Pick it up in the afternoon , fan is working , but he has wired it in to so as when the ignition is on ,, the fan is on ,, tried the argument , decided to change it back when i got home. Got a few miles up the road , bike stops,, blown the 20 amp main fuse. Replace with spare , head back to shop ,, blow another, fuse holder melts ,,, Finally get it back to the shop , leave it overnight. Next day bike is fixed , fan still wired in permanently, get home ,, seems no bother but had smelt some burning ,,couldnt find it ,, Small electrical issues continued ,, tacho would stop for no reason ,, FI light would illuminate then off , tacho start working , fan intermittent ,,, have a look around at what the bike shop did and find a 25amp fuse in the main fuse holder. Opinions here please ? It had a 20 amp ,, was obviously shorting somewhere and is replaced with a 25amp. Is it enough to cause my wiring to burn out ? Noticed some burn on the loom covering forward of the huge plug ,, stripped it back and what a mess , from the big (24pin?) plug ,thru the test plug , right thru a lot of wires melted. Didnt strip it all the way back as i wanted to get it back to the shop. took it there some days ago with some questions for them . Today they ring and tell me that $550 Singapore dollars ($380 USD) will get me a new loom as this one is buggered. So tomorrow , back on the ferry for another wasted day to go check the damage ad get to the bottom of why this happened. Strangely , as the mechanic pointed out , wiring on bikes here seems to get chewed a bit by mice. Opinions ?? anyone had major loom problems ?
  10. Hi again , Checked all thru the same things ,, still looks normal and runs the same. I am now convinced it is limited electrically. I do not think its an intake or exhaust blockage given the fact that it pulls strongly all the way to 190kmh and seems like it just cuts out there , yet only cutting enough to hold it there, remember , in any gear which means it isn't limited by revs and is it not one heck of a coincidence that it stops at 190 in 3,4,5 or 6th ? Its not the gearing as it pulls 10,000 RPM in 3rd doing 190 kmh. As for where I am , It's Vietnam and there isn't a heck of a lot of places to go past 190. Seems if you believe in Buddism that you do not have to look when crossing a street or turning into a road as if you get hit and die it wasn't your fault and you are re-born anyway. I could never match the engine numbers on the bike to anything. As for origin , I believe it was illegally brought into here originally. The only thing i can say about origin is the fact it has no head light switch, not sure how common this is . Not game to remove the muffler , I would get done for sure and end up in a prison eating rice soup . Has it ever done more that 190 kmh ??? I thought it had , but thinking back to everytime someone has asked me "what speed were you doing ?" I have always answered either 189,190 or 191. So , it would seem i never have gone above that. The good news is that there is a Dyno up in HCM ,, costs $150 bucks to put the bike on there ,, but they'll do a PC-III with Dyno run for $485 USD. Looks like that is the way I am going to have to go although like everyone , watching the pennys due to being laid off. Thanks for all opinions and helps ,, I am not giving up just yet and will keep tinkering , when i know more i will post it up,, Thanks guys
  11. Thanks everyone for your concern here with my problem ,, will be having another look over things tomorow and should be able to give an update on where I am at thus far ,, Seems everything i have looked at seems fine , but given with the fact that it seems to happen in 3,4,5 and 6th of course all at different revs leads me to think its not intake or exhaust ,, This thing just rapidly gets to 190 kmh and wont go more no matter what gear ,, sometimes 189 sometimes 191 Plugs looked ok , airbox seems to be screwed together properly , filter as it should be , as for the exhaust being blocked , i don't know ,, more checking I do like the idea of taking the mufflers of it though I don't think I'd make it 100 metres without them and when I pretty much have the only real bike in town ,, I am pretty sure Mr Plod would know where to come ,,, Thanks guys , the Investigation continues , and I will keep you informed.
  12. Quad - Good call , but don't have the old filter , it was filthy anyway and i seem to recall this doing it before ,, whenever anyone asked me how fast i was going I'd often say 191 kmh,,, never dawned on me . DOH , I'm not slow ,, it's just the way my mother dresses me !!! Partsman - Pulled out the airbox to make sure everything is as it should be ,,, looks normal down there XX Rider - In fact it made it to 190 kmh in 3rd pulling near on 10k on the tacho. Just didnt seem to want to do anymore than that ,,, left it in 3rd and listened ,, no sounds really,(really only hear wind) dropped a few km changing to 4th , got back to 190kmh again and nothing ,,,tacho read ???? (was too interested in head down near tank listening), but it had heaps of acceleration getting back there,, same with 5th as well ,,,, just gets there and seems to stop , much like hitting an immovable object ,,,,,,possibly electrically break down. AS I say ,, heaps of acceleration in any gear right up to 189-191 are numbers i have seen ,,, doesnt matter what gear either. Para - I reckon your onto something here. I am too chicken to intentionally hit the rev limiter so don't know if its the same affect ,,, although glad i no longer have to keep a "feel" for valve bounce. Having said all the above,, there really isnt anywhere I am likely to need to ride this thing at any greater speed , so aren't really concerned ,, I think I should be looking at a smaller front sprocket perhaps . Never the less , it would be handy to know if in fact it was factory limited ??? Cheers for your help guys.

Well , this took a while but I finally got a fix for my key issue. We now have a real bike shop with a bike mechanic in Vietnam. I took my bike to him for a general check recently and mentioned the necessity of another key. I now have my other chipped key . $100 USD did not include how he did it though. Wont tell me , although I suspect my original key at least went to a Honda dealer in Singapore ,,, So there must be a way of doing this , using only your original key with chip. Anyway ,, I now have the 2nd key and am no longer needing to carry my bike key on a string around my neck .
  14. Searched threads for a similar problem , can't find anything. Had this happen a few times and was never really 100% sure . Noticed the other day that my bike is topping out at 190 kmh ,,, tried this in 4th , 5th and 6th ,, different revs didn't make any difference , just tops out somewhere around 189,190 or 191 ,, never more ,, kmh remember ,, Had just ditched the original filter for a K & N and was amazed at the noticable power difference. Cant really hear anything other than wind noise , certainly no loud bangs . I would have to say it accelerates there ok . I had a CBR 750 Hurricane , they actually had a speed limiter behind the speedo that you had to disconnect ,, I'm bloody sure their is nothing on the Birds. Going to go find some clean roads this weekend to investigate this bizarre problem further. Has to be electrical though doesnt it ?
  15. +1 Best build quality I've seen, and performance is great. http://store.micronexhaust.com/index.php?m...odel=CBR-1100XX Interesting thread ,, My biggest gripe as previously mentioned is people burning themselves on my huge original cans. I have been thinking of getting the Akrapovic 4-1 system ,, but that Micron full system seems like a real good deal. If I could , I'd be going that way I reckon. I am limited to what I can hand carry back in here , probably picked up in Oz or Singapore and carried back into Vietnam ,, if i get it sent here they will crucify me on tax, but seem to me hand carry stuff in.
  16. ok then ,, i get it ,, a F2 or F3 refers to a cbr 1000 ,, you know i never knew that.
  17. Any reason they wouldn't fit an F1 ?? Can't think of one myself.
  18. Ongoing problem with my bird. 03 FI FI light was always on ,, sometimes strong, sometimes faded. Bad bad economy. Mate had said i was spraying fuel out my exhaust. Appeared to be running on all 4 Had fair throttle return response, not enough that i noticed any different. Would occasionally start ruinning rough then shut down ,, sit on the side of the road for a few minutes ,,, start up and get another 2 km out of it . Next day might be fine , next day might be same. No fuel drip coming out of the PRV vacuum line Removed fuel filter again from tank ,,, backflushed. Put in some injector cleaner. Pulled air filter. Removed airbox to get at thge plugs, 1 & 2 looked the same , didn't expect 3&4 to look any different, the PRV vaccum is 2&3 yeah ?Oh , an wasnt going to pull the radiators to get at the plugs . What i did notice though when i pulled the airbox was , there is a vaccum hose from the rocker cover to bottom of airbox , this was off under the airbox. So put oit all back together and have to relearn the throttle on it ,,, if i open it like i have been i near flip the thing. I remember when i first bought it how powerful it was ,, actually frightened me ,,, i had thought i had just gotten used to it ,,,, seems i had a huge power drop in it. I dont believe though that the vaccum hose being off would cause all these problems ,, perhaps a combination. Have looked thru vaccum threads and PRV ,filter threads. Any opinions . Remember ,, i am in Vietnam ,,,, no mechanics , no dynos ,, no real big open road sections. Oh , on another point ,, my neighbor comes over for a beer as i am just putting it back together ,,, he says "get your bike fixed ?" "Yeah ,, think i have" he says" vaccum hose" rather matter of factly. "how'd you know" he says "I could hear it before you pulled it off the road mate" He may or may not come back over ,, not sure ,,, I wasnt happy at this. Cheers
  19. Good thread ,, 2 days ago , I ran the bike out of fuel ,, rolled into a servo luckily ,, seems i got some crap into the fuel system , was hoping thats all it was rather than the myriad of potential electrical issues. Took the pump out of the tank and as I cannot just go and buy a new filter i decided to flush this one out. started with blowing thru it with my mouth ,, seemed restricted , so got out a compressor and blew backwards thru it and did the fuel delivery line as well . On putting it to my mouth and blowing again , noticed a big difference . Fitted it all back up , but not before removing the air filter and giving it the petrol ,toothbrush and air compressor overhaul. Just got back from taking it for a blast , xpecting it to die in the arse again but no ,, went great. in fact , I have never known this bike to be so quick ,,, I was amazed . One thing i did notice though that concerned me a little , and i wonder if others have noticed the same , on pulling out the pump , and looking into the housing recess , there is a lot of swarf in there ,,, looks the same as from the housing being drilled. I left it alone ,,, imagine if honda didn't want it there it wouldn't be there ,, heres where i am thinking i should have taken a piccy ,,, hmmm , will i pull the pump again ,,,,,,,, no , me thinks not. 20. Good discussion here regarding sealing the bead when installing tyres. I have stopped off in Thailand on my way home to buy a pair of 2CT 's. Once home i took my bikedown to a local car tire shop , I took the front wheel off , let them take off the old tyre , caught them putting the tire on the wrong way , all was good until i watched them "pop" the tire .,,, I stopped them and checked the gauge ,,,, 100psi ,,, god knows what they would have taken it to if I hadn't stopped them !!! Now , am i being pedantic for wanting to pick up a breaker bar and smash these guys over the head with it !! I dragged the boss out of the office (he speaks english) and tore him a new waste orifice. Brand new tyre that i had to get from another country ,, carried all the way home and then this. I dont know what pressure there supposed to have maximum , however everything else i deal with in life doesnt have that much tolerance ,, therefore the new tyre is back off the bike and the old one put back on until i can stop off and get another one. My fault really

gets better ,,, they dont even have the blank to cut a non-coded key from here . :icon_wall: The saga continues.

So the hard part is having the machine to code the key that plugs into the ECU, do you have a Honda dealer there Now that sums it up real well . Thanks ,,, so the wash is i dont just take the old key ,,, i need to take the bike . Bugger huh !! As mentioned before ,,,big bikes are rarer than rocking horse poop here , have honda dealers but they work on single cylinder scooters. Not a viet mechanic i have found in 6 years i would take a "bike" to. getting that new blank cut today ,,,, see if it works piggybacked with the chipped key. Reading around a few sites ,,, most people dont seem real impressed with the HISS, although it must go a long way to stop your bike being stolen. Cheers , i'll let you know how i go with the piggyback system

Does anyone know how it actually works ? is it a sensor deal ? My key isnt straight and i am hoping that it doesnt break before i get a new one . Actually going to get just a blank cut and see if it will work in the precence of the chipped black bit. Bloody hope so !!! mack ,, did you see that the wallabies havent picked a coach . They are interviewing a KIWI for the job !!!!! A sad sad day to evun guve hem thu unterview.
  24. Like Shane reckons ,,,,, take the cash ,, kick the guys ass ,,, use the money to post bail so you can kick the guys ass again. Drove straight into it huh ,, what a knob. Probably too busy talking on his cell and drinking his big gulp to worry about having to steeer the car.

So Para , do you think they would just read the chip on the key then ? No Honda dealer within coo-ee here ,, matter of a fact no bloody mechanic around either except me. But I have you guys so i reckon i'll be right.
