  1. This one has no leaks and no smoking. Shit, it might be empty. I've seen a few 'tuned' Harleys roll coal; more fuel mo powa! I saw a Prius roll coal the other day, it made me chuckle.
  2. No clue what the air gap is, I filled them from the bottom to approximately the factory spec...I think. Spec is 9.7 ounces, but it doesn't say if that's each or total. From forums and videos everyone says it's per side, what came out was about 9-10oz total for both. There's no sign of leakage and they still had some air pressure after being parked forever so my guess is that the last guy did 9.7oz. total. They call for 10w which I didn't have so I mixed some 5 and 20 blindly aiming for somewhere around 12. And yes, I know the number on the bottles mean nearly nothing. The left fork supposedly has to be filled from the bottom which seems harder, but in this case it's easier to fill them both from the bottom. I guesstimated spillage and added a little extra to compensate. I forgot to put the schrader back in before pulling the filler hose from the right side so it's probably a little low, but nowhere near how low it was. With the schrader in it creates an air lock so less spills out when pulling the hose to insert the screw. Smart me would have prepared better and pulled a vacuum to not spill any.
  3. Reading your replies helped me figure out why diesel oil is actually appropriate for them, they're monstrous engines with no horsepower. For an 800 pound couch it pulls decently, but it is a 1450cc engine. I've come around to liking some aspects of it. Being able to throw lunch/parts in the luggage makes it usable for quick errands. I like playing with the radio and cruise control. I've always hated the springiness of the forks, it was a friend's bike so I've ridden it a couple times over the last many years. After changing the fork oil they're pretty damn decent.
  4. So you're going to further prove what I said about Diesel engine oil running cool after stupidly arguing that they run "hot as fuck" just like a Harley...perfect. While you're waiting for those unnecessary photo opportunities, look up Harley specs on piston to cylinder clearance so you can see how wrong you were about that "generous piston to cylinder clearance" statement as well.
  5. You're just digging a deeper hole stupid. Of course the oil temp is higher than coolant temp, if it wasn't the engine would be fucked. That doesn't change the fact that Diesel engine oil typically runs cooler than gas engine oil.
  6. He's recently made some non-retarded and non-insulting posts so I thought maybe he'd have something other than the shit he posted here.
  7. I know diesel oil is good for bikes, I've been using it since long before the .org existed. Harley piston/cylinder clearance spec is .0009"-.0015", if that's "generous piston to cylinder clearance" I'd love to hear what motor uses tight clearance. There are tons of V-twin specific bike oils of the right viscosity so I see no good reason to suggest using a diesel oil of the wrong viscosity. Diesel engines don't run hotter than gassers; the coolant temp is about the same and EGT and oil temps are typically lower in diesels than gassers. Harley oil temps typically vary from the lower diesel temps to above gasser temps depending on conditions. I've readily admitted to being wrong and have thanked people for correcting me, you're projecting your own mentality again.
  8. Or maybe so they wouldn't discover that there are better bikes at half the price.
  9. That's some funny shit.
  10. Ok, then you tell me why they say to use diesel oil instead of motorcycle oil.
  11. I found this interesting. My Harley manual states to only use Harley oil, of course. The surprising part is that it says if you need oil and can't find Harley oil you can use Diesel engine oil to get by on. Then, obviously, you need to change it as soon as possible so that it'll be back to pure Harley oil. I was shocked that it suggests diesel oil instead of motorcycle oil. Why would Harley state diesel oil, could it be better than motorcycle spec oils? Then it hit me. I wonder if Harley only suggests the diesel oil alternative to avoid having you think about using some other brand of motorcycle oil instead of theirs. Like they're trying to convince you that those other oils are SO fuckin shitty that they're not even good enough to get you by in an emergency, but the diesel stuff that doesn't really belong in there is at least ok enough keep it alive till you can find Harley oil.
  12. He would have wasted that time regardless, but he likely wasted the time to create a login and reply to the ad. If he noticed that it was 15 years old he was prepared for it and decided that it was worth a try. If he didn't notice, he deserves it.
  13. Being an auto is one part, many states don't allow carrying a double edged knife so this has two possible illegalities in one.
  14. He, and many others. There's a bunch of stuff about milk that's 'bad' for us, but I don't think it's any more bad than a lot of things we normally eat and drink.
  15. You'd probably be in less legal trouble if caught banging a 12 year old on the playground than carrying that thing, but you'd still have the support of your friends with a felony knife charge.
  16. Stuff's probably safer than going down on a vaxxed chick. Cow milk is already said to be bad for you, I don't know why this stuff would be particularly dangerous. It's not like we're dealing with bubba's latest moonshine inspired brain storm, it's being done by professionals in a Chinese lab; worst case scen Have I mentioned that we should nuke China before they succeed in killing us all?
  17. With many bikes they have to be removed to open them and the nearly 30 year old rubber boots are probably not rubber any more. I don't buy smokes, I make them. The only store runs are for parts/supplies that often can't be reasonably or easily carried on a bike. The only friend I visit somewhat frequently is either to help with something nesessitating tools and/or to hang out on the patio which means drinking. I have left the bike there overnight before, the 'quick visits' often turn into 5 hours of working his keg and various bottles. I usually leave in reasonable condition to drive home, but often not reasonable to ride. And the biggest killer, since I don't have a covered place to park it it lives under a cover in a spot that is somewhat of a pain and often blocked by a car and/or stuff. And it has to be backed in carefully because there's little space.
  18. I've never had issues with gas in the tank going bad. The Porsche I recently resurrected sat about 10 years and the gas was still good enough to not have issues. I drained it because it's a fucking Porsche so it got new premium, but the old gas went into the forklift and F-150.
  19. In contrast, the fuel injected bike I just finished getting running had a seized fuel pump, broken pressure hoses, and stuck injectors. It required new parts and more work. FUCK EFI!
  20. I forgot to say, the bowls were a lot cleaner than I expected. A tiny bit of brown sediment which is common with any carb even when they're working fine. No green shit, and no goo, just totally clogged jets. Spray cleaner wouldn't bust through, had to use a wire to poke them out.
  21. I've boasted a few times about how great our California gas is that my bike repeatedly sits for months without issue, but it finally bit me. Last ride, a few months back, it appeared that one idle jet was clogged. I didn't want to take it apart so I just dealt with it hoping it would clear. Toward the end of the ride it had gotten a little better. Since so many tout Seafoam I grabbed a bottle and poured some in. The last leg home it seemed to be doing better so I thought the cleaner must be doing it's job. I had planned to take another ride to finish clearing it, then life happened and it sat a few months. This time it was really bad. I tried to ride through it dreading going into the carbs, but no way. It was dangerous to ride. Then I discovered how easy it is to drop the bowls without pulling the carbs, had I known I wouldn't have waited. It helps that someone had replaced the JIS bowl screws with Allens. I'm planning to install a valve in the vacuum line to the petcock so I can run it dry before parking, possibly a 3 way valve so I can prime it before cranking. Or maybe finally sell it....but not sure I can convince myself.
  22. The bike lives about 150 miles from me. And apparently he works early, just heard it fire up.
  23. My Carrera doesn't seem to burn, but I haven't put many miles on it yet. The most common cause for burning is a failed air/oil separator (part of the PCV system) or scored cylinders. My buddy's Boxter made clouds at start-up which is relatively common, mine never has visible smoke even after weeks of sitting. I find it funny how people with "high end/specialty/expensive" cars & bikes excuse a lot of flaws. I made several unpopular posts in the Jaguar and Ducati forums about their shityness. The only group that's as forgiving are China bike owners, but that I agree with since they're about half the price of a Jap bike and 1/4 of an Italian. It seemed like the China bikes actually had fewer problems than the Italians, and they were typically cheap & easy fixes. I read of several Ducatis being totaled by 0 MPH drops. The steering stops were/are fairly weak and since they're part of the frame the only 'proper' repair is a new frame. They can be a smokin deal at insurance auctions.
