  1. OK, what's that top triple off of and what was required to make that work? Also, what are the bars? Why did you change from the Kwaker Top triple? Are they higher? Lower? easier to set for your wants? Um, also heard that the ZX front master was a super-duper double throw down part. Has anyone tried using the CBR master to drive the Kawa front brakes? Thanks! CBR or Kwaker shock?
  2. No offense taken. Guess it's somewhere to start if nothing else.
  3. Was poking around and saw this today: http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0804_k...300r/index.html I have no idea if this is good, bad, or indifferent, caveat emptor: Per the article: Suggested Suspension Settings FRONT Spring preload: 3 lines showing; rebound damping: 9 clicks out from full stiff; compression damping: 6 clicks out from full stiff REAR Spring preload: 12mm thread showing; rebound damping: 0.25 turn out from full stiff; compression damping: 0.5 turn out from full stiff
  4. +1 I have '01 forks on my '97 a '97 lower tree, and an '01 upper (w an 01' ign switch). The connector on the late and early ign switch changed, but the wires are the same and can be swapped into the connector that fits your main harness easily.
  5. Here's a thread on this w/pictures: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?...l=zxxx&st=0 And another one: http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?...573&hl=zxxx Looks like the ZX bars are an acceptible fit to the BB bodywork
  6. I'll consider it! Assuming that spacing needs to be adjusted to align w/the front sprocket. Speaking of which, can the Kwaker rear sprocket be had w/BBird stock # of teeth? New sprocked cost vs speedo healer cost. Gracias.
  7. Thanks Red and xxQuad. Should have known about the USD forks, duh. Too bad about the stem, I'm watching the other thread about the top bearing with interest. Using the Kawa top triples means using Kawa handlebars, not a big deal I guess, and it's good to hear the Honda ignition can be made to fit. I'll think about this a bit more and see if I can scrounge up some bits. May try to do this when my current tires wear out. Any other thoughts, please let me know, and thank you.
  8. So, now I'm thinking hard about the Zxxx conversion, and a couple of questions came up. Front: Are the fork tubes different diameter than the BBird? If so, does the top clamp has enough meat around the clamps to be bored out for use w/the Kwaker tubes? Can the stem be pressed out of a bbird triple clamp and into the Kwaker bottom triple? If this is done, how does the dimensions for the front tire/disk - caliper change? If the ZX top triple has to be used, how does the Honda ignition switch/lock integrate? Rear: If you put the ZX14 rear wheel on the BBird swingarm, can the bearings and sprocket bushing be replaced to use the stock bbird axle? Since this was done already and the bbird arm was hogged out to accomidate the axle, then I assume (bad thing to do), that setting up spacers to align the rear wheel / chain / brake was do-able without too much drama The direction I'm going is to make just anough changes to put the parts on and leave the bbird as stock looking as possible. The lighter ZX wheels and more adjustible forks make this mod a pretty attractive proposition. Thanks
  9. Gracias, Hombre. Looks like I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for a ZX14 front end.
  10. Finally went the the DMV today w/the odo showing 8,200. Lots of out of state vehicles in line to be checked, including a BMW 740i that was heavily leaking coolant. There is a large bill in that lady's future! No problems, except that it took a long time. People @ the DMV were nice, but are struggling with a system that forces them to check 4 different, huge binders to get the info they needed to process this crap. So that's a worry off my back. Whew!
  11. Has anyone done a write up on this mod? Seems that if you can get the parts @ the right price, it would make more sense than spending $ to rework the BB forks. So, if you did this, what steps were needed? Are you happy w/ the result? Much appreceated.
  12. Scroll up and read my post above.... or- Go look at the DDM website for yourself. DDM no longer sells Slim Ballast kits, The same Motorcycle kits they sold last year, nor do they sell projector beam housing kits.... Bummer, if you ask me, because they were so cheap, cost wise, it was cool, even if they didn't last, etc. OH well.... Crap, sorry to see that. As long as the lamp is the same, should be able to fit a kit even it it's a bit bigger. Have their slim ballasts on the bike and the truck. 1 truck ballast failed and was replaced w/no probs. Love DDM. They are local to me. If anyone cares, I can ride over and chat them up.
  13. The HID ballasts look the same as what can be had from DDMTuning.com. Wonder if you could buy the projectors form your guy and the lights from DDM (after verifying model of lamp, H4, H7, whatever). Might save some change there.
  14. Sounds similar to what Catlyst Reaction http://feelthetrack.com/ wants to do w/my bird. Can you say the price quoted?
  15. Are you running their kit? If so how long and involved was the install? Please let me know. I agree for the dough this is quite a bargain. http://www.microdatabase.com/Blackbird.html Scroll down to see some install shots. Easy install, no mods to the harness required. It uses the existing H/L plugs to power the HID system.

    forks

Here you go. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=62937 Thank Hobicus.
  17. + 2 to that. I have DDM kits in the bike and the Expedition. Great, great units. RE: Teh silverstars. Had them in my other car, but they burnt out in < 1 yr. Here's one for you. The price is a lot better than OEM. Have not bought from this guy, but if you are on a budget, your choices are these, or used. Used ones are pretty rare, they are often the first thing to go in a shunt. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Headlight-Head-light...=item483df9a323

    Brake Pads

This question must have been asked and answered before, but it's almost 2011, so an update wouldn't hurt. So, what's the best pad for your basic performance street rider. Priorities are 1: Performance under typical street usage (i.e. cold) 2: Easy on rotor$. 3: Dust (as in less is better) 4: Long life 5: Price I see a lot of different pads, but since there is no way to get info on relevant testing, you all are the best place to come to. What do you think? Thanks!
  19. I'm interested. Please put me on the list. Right now my mirrors give a great view of my elbows!
  20. Have had identical units from DDM on the fife's expedition for approaching 2 yrs now. 1 ballast puked, and was replaced under warranty w/no hassle. Have a set on the bbird now, 3+ mos w/no probs. Now used daily due to time change. Reccomend picking up a euro right hand handlebar switch to let you keep them off unless you need them. Cost ~$40 shipped.
  21. Damn, if it checks out mechanically, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Wonder what they bought it for!
  22. Ducati - your assurance of extravagant pricing.
  23. Thanks for the offers, guys. I'm going to risk another few weeks and just ride the thing. BTW, I'm far from the fastest guy out here. There are a lot of guys passing me @ > 100, and one guy with hard bags that's just insane. So I hope I'm low profile enough.
  24. +1 Got a used one from Mechanix. Stock seat was uncomfortable for rides > 100 miles. The Corbin feels like a board when you first get on it, then not another thought about it for the duration of the ride. If you can't get a new one, then put a saved search in on eBay, and grab one there.
