  1. Thank you all, I'm going to keep them. My current tires are Bridgestone Battlax BT-57 (the only brand/model I have been running since 1999 and I'm on my 4th set) and have about 9500 miles so I will replace soon. The BT-57 lasted a long time for my type of riding (commuting and long trips with occasional twisties.) They lasted an average of 11k-12k miles when they hit the wear bars. How do the Pilot Road compare to the BT-57? I ran through 2 sets of PR's and averaged about 7500 miles + or - I loved those tires the only reason I don't have them on now is I just wanted to try something else to see what is out there and also $$$ played a little roll in buying. I'm cheap. I have a tendency to be heavy on the throttle at times.
  2. I have been using Castrol syntec in the Bird since I bought it 2 years ago and just recently changed to Mobil 1 this spring and not 1 problem. I have never used any motorcycle specific oil in any of my bike over the last 25 + years that includes my motocross bikes when I was racing. never had any engine or trans probs except for my 88 KX 250 that I bought used and that ended up being a bent shift fork. I am running mobil1 15-50 in the Bird right now and it is just fine. I change my oil every 8 to 10 K it shifts nice and smooth and the motor does not make any strange noises either. After I did some research about the API standards on oil I found that almost all of today's synthetic oils far exceed the requirements of the Birds oil specs. The only thing that you really need to avoid is the energy conservation oil which I believe is the 10-30 and lower grades. They can cause clutch slippage.
  3. Remember every 7lbs = 1 hp Weight Watchers my friend That 500 will make a great commuter even for your big ass your talkin 50mpg easy if you go easy on it.
  4. First off I want to say congrats on the new Busa. When they first came out I liked the front half of the bike but the back just plan old looks like shit. I have read that they are a great bike all around. I have not ridden that many bikes to compare but the bird has more power than I need for everyday use and it handles better than I can ride it so the $4k I spent 2 years ago is perfect for me. I would love to ride a SV 650 I hear they are a real hoot in the twisties. I moved up from an 83 Honda CX650 to the bird so the difference was night and day. There are days where I miss my cx for an old cruiser it handled very good. I took it to the Dragon and wore the loop off the side stand and have pics that show a shower of sparks as I rail through a turn. There wheren't any chicken strips on those tires when I got home. Now I have not been back to the Dragon with the bird but in WV I have to slow the bike down cause it scares me the speed I can carry in the turns one mistake and I am toast. For the most part these bike are all over kill for the street these days, but they sure are fun to ride. I need to do a track day on a true sport bike. Like the 08 cbr 600RR that is a sweet bike.
  5. The touch screen on my TomTom works with my leather riding gloves on I can see why this one wouldn't work.
  6. IIRCC they are the same front and back.
  7. If you weren't so cheap that you ordered snail mail shipping you may have gotten it by now!!! :icon_nana: Hope you get it soon..
  8. Thanks I will try that nexxt time.
  9. So what you are telling me is that they are prolly not worth the 25 bucks ea. I was thinking more on the lines of improving mpg not so much performance. I guess the old faithfull NGK will do just fine. I am still trying to figure out how to insert links properly.
  10. I have done a little research on them and they sound good but how true are these claims? I was thinking of trying them but at $25 a plug I am not ready to jump on them just yet. Here is the link to the site if anyone is interested. www.pulstarplug.com/
  11. I have been seeing Brett drop the wieght over the last few months and he is the thinest I have seen him in 20 years. I on the other hand have not been trying very hard but since christmas I have lost about 17 or 18 lbs I am hanging around the 178 mark and I am content with that if I lose more great but not going to sweat it. Glad to see everyone is reaching their goals. Keep up the good work. :icon_clap:
  12. I have a 97 with yosh slip on and a hindle 4-2-1 factory jet kit and timing advance and a K/N filter. Last time I checked the mpg I was in the low 40's but I am running an 18 -46 gear so it thows the speedo off a bit and I am not sure if I am adjusting correctly. I will chech it again on my 1st trip that I get to use my new GPS so I can check the miles against the speedo. I have noticed the last 2 months that I am not getting quite as good mpg so I am going to clean the filter real good and see if that helps.
  13. Good luck with your goal there Jewboy. You at 200 will be damn sexy!!! I have been on a diet since the new year but I cheat a lot and I am not trying to loose a ton of wieght but I dropped from 196 to 180 as of tonight after work. Keep up the good work there buddy.
  14. Damn didn't even burn a tank of gas in the thing. Dave are you waiting for the 09 Diesel KLR? That thing sounds pretty cool.
  15. Tom Personally I like to use (Prestone Antifreeze) the old fashion green that seems to work the best. In my experiences with the (Dexcool) extended life A/F it has a tendency to find and/or create leaks, and also has no longer a life span than the regular green stuff. I have talked to some of the mechanics from Caterpillar and they say that the extended life is thinner and will leak long before the green A/F will. They also recommend that it be changed just as often. So there are no real advantages to spending the extra money. The only thing I recommend is buying the prediluted A/F. Good luck Now I need to get motivated and do my service on my bike.
  16. Good job keep on keepin on :icon_thumbsup:
  17. Looks good Shane I am not painting my bike this year maybe next winter. I have a crack starting in the lower right cowl around the bolt so I will have to do something soon though. I guess I will paint it then. Thanks for the stickers though. :icon_thumbsup:
  18. I wieghed myself this afternoon after work and I was 185. Granite I had not eaten all day but I hope to stay close to that. I have a hard time with the sweets if they are not around I don't look for them but with the kids having them in the house I can't stop myself but I am getting better Only 1-2 cookies instead of 10 I always drink water and once in a while I will have a beer, I probably drink 1/2 gallon of water a day. :icon_shifty: OOH I have to PEEE Good luck to all and keep up the good work. :icon_clap: :icon_clap:
  19. Nice job Brett you got me beat. I am stuck at 188 but I have not been real strict on my eating, I have been exercising and feel much better but I am weak when it comes to the diet. :icon_wall:
  20. Ben when did you move to India? Wooh whee that bike must be fast cause he told us all about it.
  21. So does anyone here know how to install those jets? Do they screw onto the end of the injectors? What kind of pipe will go with those jets to wake that 200+ mph? I may be interested. This bike sounds dope!
  22. Mack if you wash that bike once in a while you wont get greasy dirty hands.
  23. The obvious thing is to change the relay i hear you say, but the voltage is correct when connected to battery and it clicks so its obviously swithing??? :icon_duh: First off Welcome to our nuthouse Secondly Just cause the relay is switching does not mean that it is working. The relay is a cheap start. If the ECU was shorted you may have other problems within the electrical system. What caused the ECU to cook and what else did it take out with it?
  24. Thats gonna leave a mark :icon_doh:
