  1. I have some experience welding aluminum and engine cases. Some aluminum welds much better than others. When I got my XX the boss on the frame that holds the faring and gauges was broken. I was able to weld that reasonably well. Unfortunately, from my experience, the alloy used in engine cases doesn't well all that great. A couple of things are always true when welding aluminum. It needs to be clean, clean, clean and then clean it again. It's also enormously helpful to preheat it. Anyone you can find to give it a try should know this sort of stuff. The other thing I would suggest you do, is to get a junk chain cover for a welder to practice on first to figure out if he can do it. It might be good to post pictures of the damage, maybe there is an alternative repair. zen
  2. Awesome and congratulations! so the forum is doing well!

oops..............forgot to log in for the previous post, hope it helps zen
  4. at first I thought wow, this a close group! If you're within NEXXT range and attend, you at least get a ride! thanks agan Bill
  5. Jason...........more than I could have hoped for! A picture is worth a 1000 words. After seeing the pictures, plan "A" is to block off the right side outlet and plumb the left side outlet to the 954RR muffler. I read somewhere that Yoshimura, I think, used to do a single slip on this way. They provided a new less restrictive muffler and a cap to plug the other outlet from the exhaust system. My understanding is that the major restrictions are in the muffler. With the link mickcbr1100 sent, it's obvious how tortuous the exhaust path is in the OEM XX mufflers. The 954 muffler is way less restrictive. It's not straight through but I can see light from one end to the other. Just curious, how do you happen to have pictures of the collector cut in half like that? Thanks again Bill
  6. guys....thanks for the input yes it is the collector I need to know about. and Jason if you could post picture of the inside of one, that would be a HUGE help. I'm going to use a 954 muffler and about the first foot of tapered pipe coming out of the muffler. One of the stock xx mufflers capacity is to small to use but I temporarly pluged one of the mufflers to try it out. It did effect performance but not as much as I thought it would. By blocking the right pipe it all but eliminated exhaust getting to the passenger in the sidecar............don't want to gas anyone at NEXXT. :-) Bill
  7. I'm going to build my own left side exhaust and wonder if anyone knows for sure if the collector just before where the mufflers attach is open inside or has baffles? Or if anyone has a pipe laying around they could take a flashlight and look in the right and left side or poke a wire inside and see if you think there are any baffles in there? It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bill
  8. thanks........now I can try to resolve the issue. zen
  9. swampnut thanks for the input. I wasn't able to find the thread but will keep looking Tom, now I'm "informed" confused:-) I'll get out my manual and see if I can figure it out. Phyisicaly where is the sensor located on my bike? zen
  10. so I'm giving someone a ride last week near Deals Gap and do a 180 spining it around on the front wheel and sidecar wheel with the rear wheel seriously off the ground and the motor cuts out but can restart it in about 15 seconds. Any ideas why? could it be this bank angles sensor thing I just saw someone talk about and can I disconnect it? zen
  11. Joe, Yeah, wish I could have made SEXXT but really looking forward to NEXXT. BIG NO NO crossing the double yellow but how else could you get a barge around the dragon at any reasonable pace. Not my favorite place but interesting to visit..........tooo much traffic. My favorite road is a section just south of the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. rt 276 to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground in Cruso NC. Full slide turns............tight and intense. All great ideas on the exhaust issue. I like the looks of the stock pipes and don't want the visibility of loud pipes. A friend actually suggested that I temoraraly block the right side to see if that would solve the problem then go from there. If it does, I think I'll try your suggestion Joe. Any thoughts on a mufflers I might look at. The local dealer had a used stock 954 muffler he said I could play with. Thanks for the Muzzy suggestion Chad. I'll give them a call as well. zen
  12. Backdraft is causing exhaust gases to get into the sidecar. Anyone know of a relatively quiet system that comes out the left side? Don't want to gas anyone at NEXXT :-) Just spent a few days with wife and friends riding in NC and wound up on the front page http://www.killboy.com/ http://www.photoreflect.com/scripts/prsm.d...00P01&start=100 http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ zen
  13. Joe wins the door prize and gets an "EXTRA SPECIAL" ride at NEXXT for identifying the tire...........one sharp dude!! spEEdfrEEk, hookman49, eliXXir........thanks spEEdfrEEk, not muh more I can tell you. Once you have the new light in hand and the old one off, it's pretty obvious. It only took about 15 min to do it. I'll post a side view in the next day or 2 blackhawkxx, thanks and Joe is right.......Vredestein XXFirefighter :-) DBLXX........depends on how I behave :-) for the curious, more pictures at http://members.aol.com/blackbirdezs/Index.html xrated........cool, give us the details zen
  14. This was a pretty easy and inexpensive change. Just remove the stock licence plate bracket/light and reflecter and bolt the new light it in the same place the reflector was. I spray painted it with a matt black to match the plastic. I like the look much better than the stock licence plate setup. I got the licence plate light at my local auto parts store for about $7 Here is the company that makes them http://www.pmlights.com/ go to products then licence plate & utility lights model v434 zen
