  1. I have a 99, and installed a screen from an 02. As said before, it has a slight double bubble, and is noticeably taller. I had a Givi, but it seemed to cause more helmet buffeting, and it really takes away from the aero lines of the front fairing. The 02 screen keeps the nice lines of the bike, and seems smooth at head level.
  2. Bret Are you getting the fronts replaced for free? I think there were some problems with some of the early Storms (fronts) and if you call Avon they will set you up with a authorized dealer to look at it for warranty replacement. I have a set with about 6K, and they are holding up nicely. Not going to get the miles of the Azaros, but a lot stickier. I will definitely be putting another set on my XX and Busa when the time comes. Randy
  3. Going to try the Bel Ray. Just ordered some from Ron Ayers. If you need anything, they have their free shipping thru December on everything they sell. Great prices on OEM parts. Thanks

    Chain Lube

Been using the Honda HP lube for many years, and now that it is discontinued, anyone know of a comparable replacement? The best quality for me was how clean, and the no fling off of the Honda lube. It was very light, and didn't dry to the heavy grease of some of the others I had tried.
  5. Trade it for a Busa. You won't have any trouble finding chrome aftermarket stuff on Ebay.
  6. There has also been a whole lot more Busa's sold over the XX. One of the latest motorcycle rags put the number sold at 10,000 just in 07. And with all those sold, you will have a hard time finding one that hasn't been modified, and probably abused. I have a 99 XX with 43k, with me putting the last 23k in the clock, with not a hint of a problem. I also just purchased a 02 Busa, and have had it only about one week. I too, read about the 2nd gear problems on the Busa forums after purchasing mine, and at first was a little nervous, until I put in perspective how many are sold and abused, and how people like to vent their problems on the internet. I also read about many of the abusers that do full power clutchless shifts. My Busa is low mileage, and was owned by a guy in his 50's, and is stock, so any problems I have won't be related to abuse. After putting a couple of hundred miles on the Busa, the tranny shifts as smooth as the XX. Other positives on the Busa is of course, its low/midrange power, suspension that is way better than the XX, with adjustability, and just a more modern bike. On the XX's side is the fuel injection/throttle smoothness, lot better wind protection, Linked brakes(I like em), smooth engine, and for me its a Honda. To my surprise, I'm getting the same MPG(low 40's) out of both. I haven't had the chance to put a longer day in the saddle on the Busa, but I'm sure the XX will be my choice for the high mile rides.
  7. Just passing along http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-HONDA-C...sspagenameZWDVW
  8. Enjoy your new ride! I had been talking with Dwyane, and was planning on working out the shipping on Monday. It looked cleaner than a showroom bike and the price was right (actually too cheap). I doubted it would make it through the weekend. I'm still looking for a mate to my 99XX, either a 01 or 02 XX, or a 99-03 Busa. Needs to be pristine and low miles. Randy
  9. I've used clip types on the XX before, but safety wired. When I got my XX it also had a clip link that was safety wired, and I put about 10,000 miles on it before I bought a chain tool kit, and did the rivet link. I really don't think it would have given any problems, but it was always in the back of my mind, so for the peace of mind I spent the money for the tool kit and did the rivet.
  10. Since I have done the install, I've had a chance to go out for some riding and I have ended up moving the led bar on top of the detector with velcro so I can take it off and still use it in my other vehicles. The led block has a 52 degree angle on the bottom and it is the right angle to hit you eye level. There is NO way to miss it now. I learned a couple of things, one being volume level affected the brightness of the led bar, even though the guy that sells them claims it didn't on his website instructions. When I first started using it (legal speeds) I only had half volume and caught myself missing it a couple of times. I then turned the volume to the highest level, and took the detector out of auto-mute and never missed the flash when it was under my speedo. It now flashes until you get out of radar range or you mute it with the button. I just wanted the piece of mind of not missing it in case the sun was hitting me, and something else had my attention, even though I liked the original location of mounting better. The HARD system looks great, but I don't think they have one that works with Bel, and the Visual alert is $100 cheaper and doesn't need batterys.
  11. Just finished installing the Beltronics RX65 on a Techmount and used the Marc Parnes Products visual alert. I used the hardwire kit, and routed the wire along the left side of bike and wire tied to main harness. I thought the Tech mount was pricey when I ordered, but this is a high quality unit, capable of about any orientation. Also quite happy with the led light bar, as it will turn the cockpit red when it lights-VERY bright. Marc recommends unpluging it at nite so you don't get blinded. Also, another bonus of the Beltronics detector, is that it you can program a display where it will show your voltage, and still see all of the alerts. I had been looking at voltmeters for the XX, and never found one I wanted to mount on the bike. Now hopefully I can catch the reg going bad a little earlier.
  12. As Milehi says, all you need is to remove your windsheild, and you will have acess to all four bulbs These bulbs are not much brighter than the stock bulbs, just a different kind of light. They make the instruments much more vivid, with a touch of blue to the light. A guy on the other website posted this pic of his using the same bulbs I used. http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450020740/1.jpg
  13. I just installed the white LED bulbs in the instrument cluster a few days ago, and like the new look. They make the instruments more vivid, and its nice knowing you shouldn't ever have to replace the bulbs again. I also replaced my headlight bulbs with the Sylvania SilverStars, and like that improvement as well. I got the LED's from http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html (single wedge $10 bucks shipped) , and the SilverStars off of EBAY for $20 a pair shipped. It would have been $55 for the headlight bulbs at the local O-Reilly's, so if you don't mind waiting a few days you can save some money. When installing the LED's, they are polarity sensitive, so if they don't light, just leave them in the socket, pull out and turn the whole socket 180 degrees. You'll need 4 of them.
  14. How about some pics and a sound file. I installed a set of Yoshi slip ons about a 1000 miles ago and one thing I am not looking forward to is the repack. Don't have a video camera, but I will see if my digital camera makes a decent sound clip worth posting.
  15. +1 on the Meguiars Tech Wax. Best shine I have had on the "Black" Bird.
  16. Since the Honda Service Manual does not include the fuel filter in the maintenance schedule, I doubt I will ever worry about it unless I am have problems that could be fuel system related, or I have the tank apart for some other reason.

    Tires

I'm getting ready to order a set of the Storms, and have found that Southwest Moto Tires have a great deal at $244 to the door. I've been happy with the Avon Azaro's getting 10,500 out of the rear, and hoping that the Storms are better. http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/merchant....gory_Code=Storm
  18. I just picked up a set of Yoshi slip ons off of Ebay, and I have also seen the Jardines sell as well. If you don't want polished, link to sellers store on page, and you can probably find carbons. A couple of links-- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...0408&rd=1,1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-03-Honda...063385932QQrdZ1 Randy
  19. I don't use the controller either, but I'm just using the gloves. I have my connector coming out on the left side of the bike between the seat and frame. I've only had them a short while, and used them once, but this is some of the best money I've have spent in a long time, and wish I would have gotten them sooner. They made a 250 mile 40 degree morning ride, thanksgiving day, pleasant. Never got too hot. I have a couple of Tourmaster jackets with zip in liners, and this makes hiding the wiring easy, and you don't even know it is in the jacket when you aren't using the electric stuff. I just zip the on-off switch in the inner pocket when I'm off the bike. Randy
  20. Installed the Yosh's after work today, took about an hour, and had no problems installing or rubbing on swingarm. As far as slip ons go, these are probably one of the most quiet around. Took her out for a ride, and can say it has a nice tone at idle, even though I didn't have the chance to really wind it up, makes some noise when you grab the throttle. Cool for now, but when it comes time to repack, I will probably be tired of em, and put the stockers back on. Randy
  21. Just picked up a new pair of Yoshi RS-3 slip ons for my 99XX, and was wondering by anyone who has installed a set if there are any problems with swingarm or centerstand clearances. Randy
  22. Thinking of checking mine before next spring. To those who have done it, do you need to get a new valve cover gasket, or are you getting by reusing the old one. Randy
  23. The easiest way to remove the filter is the wrench that pivots like pliers. Just bring tool up thru bottom of cowl, and look thru opening on side of fairing so you don't even have to get on your back. http://da.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/...h&Submit=Go Even though it comes from Harbor Freight, it is one of the better tools in the store. I like to tighten my filter by hand, then use the wrench to snug it against the block- very easy to break loose when you have the magic tool next oil change. For me, it is hard to get a good grip on the filter to trust hand tight only. I haven't timed myself doing an oil change, but I think under 10 minutes is doable. Randy
  24. I'm getting some good mileage out of the Avons also. Currently have 7000 on a set, and don't think I'll have any trouble getting 10,000 out of the rear. I live in the flatlands (Kansas), and average around 80mph on the highway. This is without a burnout or hammering it at every stoplight. Since I don't have many curves to carve, I can't compare to the Dunlops I had before, but I will probably be getting another set of Avons this winter.
  25. I just fueled up last nite, and my mileage came out to 40mpg. This is a 99 with stock exhaust and airfilter, on the hiway at about 75-80 mph average, with quite a few full throttle passes. If I ride a pretty steady 70mph, mid 40's are no problem. You have to admit that the fuel mileage is excellent with the XX. I think if you rode a Busa or ZX14 the same way, mileage would be way down.
