  1. I never heard the happy ending to the PC/Akra Map--what happened??
  2. Conqsoft had some issuses with his Hindles---sent them back--the Akra it a much nicer unit--sounds great--only $750--there is a HUGE difference in the build quality of an Akra comp to the Hindle Plus if you are lucky you may even get a PC map for the Akra
  3. Just remember any change to the dogbone fucks up the linearity of the spring rate, as the linkage ratio changes---usually a shorter one requires a stiffer spring and vise-versa--best to consult a suspension expert if you find that changing stuff out causes "other" issues
  4. I hope you are drag racing or you are gonna drag all kinds of plastic in the corners--from what you did it sounds like you know what you are doing--(ie 929 dogbone)-my bike has been shimmed 6mm in the rear/Ohlins shocks and I was chasing some R6s (one very cute girl) thru the twisties--hit something solid from over tilt in a corner---the bike plain old wouldnt go over any farther--felt the rear start to lever out  --had to stand it up a tad---guess that all there is----time to do the forks and really jack the back up
  5. Need to go South young man, Manhattan Beach to San Diego has some pretty nice beaches w/sand/surf---BUT you cant beat Santa Cruz for big waves
  6. Actually raisng the rear 6mm(at the shock--raises the rear about 12mm)-helps eliminate all of my scraping--both on the headers (Akra) and the side fairings--I agree ideally you want the proper springs front/rear, but for a "quick-fix" the added spacers actually help A TON with the stock suspension
  7. Tom, There is NOT much incorrect you can do. The resovoir fits whereever it fits. on the newer bikes 02, it seems to like to be on the left side under the rear cowl. 1) Put bike on centerstand, if you let the rear wheel hang off a curb its easier as it gives you more clearnce 2)Undo the top shock nut 3)Undo the lower triangle plates 4)Verify there arent any things hanging up the shock--like the resovoir bracket on the 02 5) Pull the shock out the bottom 6) Put new shock in 7) Add 6mm of washer between the frame and upper shock mount 8) put back together BEFORE you do all this verify that the spring is the correct weight, it comes with a 17.3--unless you made arrangements to have it swapped out-19.3 is better for 200+ guys like myslf
  8. If you knock it up a few notches---be very careful--followed a guy at Laguna Seca--everytime he braked for a corner--the rear end would step out about a foot--Personally I gotta agree w/xrdracer-- they are shit
  9. Maybe that is the problem, but I was really standing on it and the bike did not feel like it was slowing down very much. Could just be the linked brakes faking me out. Even if you hit the rear brake hard---you will feel the front compressing pretty well--sounds like something is off--I use mine for stopping w/o hands(who says its worthless) and you know that the front is "on".
  10. I tried a guys with an 01 XX and the ignition kit, and the stok master cylinder--it seemed fine to me. Think of all the money you would save on rear rotors
  11. I would say 95% twisties. Metzler Sportecs,
  12. Damn those MIGs must weigh alot everyone elses bike only weighs 500Lbs--460lbs for the smart guys that got Akras
  13. ...which is 20% lighter... I gotta ask: Why would anybody do this on the XX? What would you hope to gain? Do you understand what you'd lose? Do you ride so few miles you don't care? Actually I will guarentee that the 520ERV2 chain will outwear the stock 530 chain as it did on my 929--torque to the ground is torque to the ground--typically limited by tire traction---I would be willing to wager that 200mi on a racetrack is pretty close to 5X that of street cruising-- What you gain is a blingy gold chain--lots of bragging right about less reciprocating mass, and lots of AL rearsprockets---everyone on the track has a 520 conversion--- Bottom Line is the XX aint a trackbike--no matter how hard you try
  14. I dont think it would be a problem at all--I have a 520 DIDERV2 set up on the 929--its seen over 30 trackdays on this chain and hasnt stretched one iota. The 520ERV2 is hella strong chain--I think its more for poser rights though than performance, yea its lighter by two pounds, but a good dump evens things out-- also all the rear 520 sprockets will be Al. If its time to change the chain anyway why not
  15. Ran into a guy that had one of these on a 2003 GSXR1000, he had a V1, in a steering stem stand--looked kind of trick---I have the 8500 too works great--X- Band is also programmed out This "alert" system is pricey but wireless, they dude said it worked awesome--it would be nice to get rid of the wires for the audio http://www.radarbusters.com/products/acces...rcyles/hard.asp
  16. Not sure what you are trying to say here, but I guess I dont really understand what came out of thios little fiasco, you said that the dyno-runs were all screwed up(via soft-ware)--but somehow a map popped out of it---was this a performance map or a fuel economy map????Who is doing the mapping/tuning???What does the A/F mixture, torque, HP look like on the dyno run?? Who was the tuner? Someone we might recognize or some or some lackey??? How hot did the bike get on the dyno???etc??? it is unfortunate that you had to waste a whole day. Maybe the guy was just "Braindead"
  17. this is unlimited mileage too---if you sell the bike, the will send you a pro-rated refund---I paid $350 for 5 years (total) for the 929-I may actually use it, as the trackdays are pretty hard on it

    Chain Breaker

Here dont need no stinkin grinder http://www.didchain.com/install.html
  19. http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/s...&threadid=29198 Bone Stock 600mi, Dynorun at DK
  20. http://forums.fireblades.org/iB_html/uploa..._Dyno.jpg%20%20 Kind of small---feel free to enlarge if you know how
  21. Mine showed no such behavior with just the spacer, except on heavy down hill braking into a corner---that went away with the Ohlins installation. Sounds to me like the tire pressure is too high. I run the rear at 36 for heavy railing on Sportecs--you didnt mention which tires---it is very possible that with the increased turn-in you are pushing it a tad harder. BTW---the incredibly long wheelbase makes the XX pretty stable whilst sliding the rear. Increasing rebound will tend to slow the steering somewhat as it holds the rear "down" I dont agree with being "off" the throttle at full tilt, obviously you shouldnt nail it at full tilt, but you should still be on it-gently--chopping it mid corner will overload the front--------the faster you go--the smoother you need to be
  22. I followed a guy at Laguna Seca a few weeks back that was running about 1:48s on a box stock 99 XX. It was kind of funny to watch him as the rear would break loose when he tipped it in on the brakes(linked brakes), had to pass him as I didnt want to get taken out when he went down---BUT- 1:48 is pretty damn fast (about top 25% of typical A group). Granted Laguna Seca is pretty smooth. But the stock suspension can be pushed pretty hard. I am not arguing that it is anything close to optimal---but I can ride mine pretty damn fast thru the twisties with the stock forks---the most freaky thing is hitting bumps at full tilt--the front does tend to skip a tad---as the forks are most likely knocking off the bump stops---but it is doable
  23. I never got the manual, and its time to change oil. Whats the official oil capacity w/filter change for a 2002???? Thanks
