    Ohlins

Conq---I couldnt find any Ohlins forks for the XX---doesnt mean the dont exist--call Dan, hell know FYI--the 1.05 springs he put in my XX were Ohlins--I bet the Ohlins valving is the same as the F4i--again Dan will know
  2. Get your forks done, jack up the rear 12mm---and get over it BTW---most bikes run like shit w/o pipes as the engine is tuned with a needed amount of backpressure-unless of course you down load DynoJets NO PIPES map into your PC --not to mention exhaust valves dont live very long w/o back pressure
  3. Thanks Dude---Bitchin---I need some of these bad
  4. Yep did this last night-0ff-cake--on----friggin PIA-as nothing really wants to line up--a nice 4 X 6 block helps alot as does opening the rear calipers way out---BTW Nik--I GUARANTEE you will scratch up the rims on the caliper the first few times---nothing personal---its damn near impossible NOT to---just a thought---over the longrun---its a good thing to know how to do
  5. Damn--I assumed they just used the Detector Power---I wonder why they didnt
  6. This is correct--All Hondas have rising rate linkage--its how they pass their own two-up off a curb scenario---on the 929 I actually got rid of this via an imitation HRC dogbone/plates from DK---it eliviates the power-on squat that the rising rate produces under heavy track acceleration---makes the travel/spring rate alot more linear
  7. Approx 2:1----raise the shock height 1mm---get 2mm intherear
  8. Cant you program out all the X-Band BS in the V1?? You can in the 8500--its all bogus and annoying--so is 99% of the K-Band--Ka is all real though in CA
  9. I just picked up a pair of the sintered Galfer pads for the 929---do they make these for the XX???
  10. I use pledge on my visor, windscreen--I think its basically the same chit--you can get 4 cans at Costco for about $6----the lemon in it does sting my vagina though
  11. Shouldnt make any diffrence---you want to set the sag via the spring preload---tighten it until you have about 35-30mm of free sag(diff in rr bike height between between a unloaded and full loaded)
  12. In order to correct the steering geometry of the XX after I lost 15mm of sag (45mm to 30mm) in the front after dan installed the proper springs(1.05s)--I jacked up the rear via washers another 6-7 mm---there is NO more thread left on the shock mount--the locking threads are engaged--but I added some lock tight just in case---turn -in is incredible---I could only get it up to 128MPH in the twisties---but NO sign on instability--HARD on the brakes form 100+ no weirdness---BTW you can really tell how well the forks work---hard on the brakes. Also have buku ground clearance now too----ALL good
  13. Not really but then again I ride with an MP3 player----like Randy said after a guy like Dan has done 1000 sets of Honda forks---he learns a thing or two
  14. There is also another thing that Dan does that is difficult to do at home. Honda forks typically suffer pretty bad from stiction, as they run pretty tight fork seals. Dan polishes the tubes to a very smooth surface finish--If you have a surface finish gauge--you could measure the difference---on the bike---it really reduces---free stiction----just a thought It is this kind of attention to detail that has made me a true believer---I still cant figure out how he got everything so dead-nuts on w/o playing with the forks on the bike---$$$$ very well spent Wish I would have sorted this BEFORE I scraped/ground the pee out of my Akrapovic collector
  15. Hugo--I am still waiting for the 19.3 rear spring(on backorder from Ohlins) after its on, reshimmed (should be done in a week)---you can take it for a ride---see what you think---maybe provide a less-biased opinion-----later
  16. Hmmmm.....did ya here that Rich....Wayne....??? The garage is open. Alpha, If you don't mind I have some questions. What weight oil did he use and do you know if he modded (opened up the orifices) the valves in any way or changed the check washer spring(s)? Also since there is little area to drill the stock comp. valve...do you know if he drilled the cartridge tube instead? Thanks in advance. G2 Dont know---give him a call Im sure he will let you know---Dan has revalved both od my bikes and hundreds of others---to tell you the truth--I am not that concerned what he did to them---I asked about the valves, because there is ALOT of debate---whether a Racetek --low resistance flow style of vlave is beneficial or NOT---dont want to start a huge debate here---as it has gone on and on in the past. But If someone is interested in having their forks done for a Pro---for generally less than the complete parts cost of the Racetech revalving---This is another $430 option.
  17. Can say enough good about Dans realving on the XX forks, took them out for a test ride---they are friggin awesome. $430(incl springs)---Dan actually keeps the stock valving, yet changes the shim-stack--polishes tubes etc----cant beat it. One othere mod needed--because the sag has gone from 45mm in the front to 30mm---the rear needs to come up another 5mm or so-so I will do that this week---looks liken there is another 5mm of bolt left---I can also drop the front if I want as the forks dont bottom at all--all good
  18. Had over things to do, so I havent put them on--I will to it tomorrow am---give my impressions afetr going for my Sunday Spin. he put Ohlins 1.05 springs in them---so we'll see how the work Also picked up a set of bling-bling used Ohlins forks($1200---from a recent 929 track wadding) for the 929---they may eventually make there way to the XX---after the RCB1000 upgrade ---All good

    Tank Slap?

I wonder if he is confused with fork chatter---Prior to the fork upgrade---the forks would seriously chatter under max high speed braking
  20. My forks are at Dan's Now--should be back this weekend Common Opinions seem to be Hondas-Dan, Suzukis, Yamahas--Lindemann at least in the AFM community in NorCal Go on www.fireblades.com and ask around about both---then make your decision--there are tons of threads about fork revalving, even some arguements between Dan/Max
  21. Wanted to take a pic, but No time this am 1) AFAM 520 Al(hardened) rear sprocket 2) Mileage--6-7K 3) Bike--929 4) bike kind of lurched at the end of a lap--pulled in the paddock 5) Inspected Sprocket--6 teeth remaining out of 45--F*&&^ckn A Lesson learned--I knew the sprocket was marginal--and I had bought a new chain, rear, front--brought it with me---I asked Dan how far gone the sprocket was, he said change it NOW---cheap bastard that I am, I thought I could do two more days on it--well I got 1-1/2---and I was really lucky--Just swapped the sprocket--went on my merry way
  22. Well the XX forks are getting yanked/dropped off at Dan's Today, should have them back in a couple days--I let you know how they work later in the week. I am also guienea-pigging for his new "HRC-ish" dogbone for the 929---should be interesting
  23. Talked with Dan, he got one extra fan in, waiting for two more---so the map will be built either next week or the one after
  24. the CA model has an O2 sensor---BUT I eliminated mine when the Akra was installed---dont think this is an issue one way or another.
  25. I will call Dan Kyle Today and see if he is game--has all the required fans, etc-see what I can set up--I have a 2002 XX CA, with a full Akra PC3, I also have the baseline dyno run of the stock bike on Dans Dyno---cost-wise I would be willing to "work something out"----for me, I want a map that I know is optimum performance--not interested in an "economy map" but I think Mirth has one
