  1. The difference is mind blowing IMHO. The racetech work on my front shocks of my '97 has the spring, gold valving, and somthing else done (complete rebuilt). The rear shock on my '97 is a custom made 'Works' shock with remote dampener adjustment dial (fully adjustable). This shock was the first 'developed' by Works for the guy that I bough my '97 from. What all that comes down to is that... when your bikes weight/suspension is under compression, it's absorb better, much better. Not to say that you won't have any feedback, but your tires will stay on track under extreme stress (if they have somthing to grab onto). The opposite would be... when under stress the bike bounces all the fuck over the place (jaring your back, wrists, teeth filings, ect...) Randy??? You out there to add some advice on this subject?
  2. So as you know I retired my '97 XX with RaceTech front and Works rear shocks. I bought a near new '01, 14k mi. '01 Redbird with stock suspension. I cannot believe that the difference is that huge . The redbird's stock suspension kicks back on every little bump. It's killing my back on my daily 64mi. commute. I decided to rebuild the redbird suspension (here's where it get's juicey). My wife is not very understanding on this subject. She was already upset that I put out the cash for the new bird without first selling the other (somewhat understandable I guess). I just can't take that stock suspension. It suck's! Like riding a gsxr1000 or something (i see them bouncing down the road all time). So a new retrofit will cost about $1~1500.00 front and rear. Help me out guys... How can I justify this??? Regards all, Sore back... -Obby
  3. Calling Joe... wear on your crank??? You have AFAM both front and rear, any issues? Personally, I smell... bullshit :icon_doh: .
  4. When I got that... it was my wheel bearings.

  6. Good news! I'm finally down 1.5 pounds more. Now weighing in at 222lb. I know it's not alot, but I was stuck at 223.5 after originally losing close to 14lbs. So my total loss is actually 15.5lbs, but for this 30-day challenge only 1.5 pounds. I think it was the after 7pm eating and a little more cardio exercise that is helping.
  7. Same here. I'm down an inch and change on my '97. Steering is perhaps too quick.
  8. I'm not sure which year your bird is, but from my experience 87 octane gas on a '97 bird caused a pinging with load. 91 octane, no problems.
  9. These birds sure aren't very rain worthy. Don't ask me how I know .
  10. Yes to Obby and yes to TFT. There's a company out (Link on another computer) there that will solder on new, different colored, LED's to the guage mother board. And for the analog guages, bulb covers or import racer colored bulbs will do the trick. Geez, I didn't know they had to be soldered on. I did see something at the other BB site across the swamp. Maybe that's a way to go :icon_think: OBBY, If you need some semi-precision soldering let me know. I have 6 colors of LED's in stock in 2 different sizes. I like the idea of illumanating(sp?) the speedo in Red, and the temp/fuel/odometer in another color, maybe blue or green. Just an idea. Let me know if I can be of help. I would do this to mine, but I'm too lazy to take everything apart. Thanks for the offer, very generous of you. I was hoping it would be something simple. Since it's not, I'm going to focus my attention on the crappy suspension first.
  11. Ahh, NO WAY! That's why I ride, to get away from passengers :icon_shhh: (wifee, kids, bill collectors, ect.) Moving my custom Works shock over is looking better and better (wonder how hard it would be to do?). They I guess I'd have to pull the Racetech fork springs to even things out. I hate to start wrenching on this cherry bird, but she need just a little help. Other than that I love it! Funniest thing that I like about the redbird... no choke. lol at me, but i keep trying to turn on a choke every morning and off when i hit the hwy. With Honda FI, you just turn the freaking key and hit the button, done. Now if I can just get my ass from hurting from that freaking suspension, i'll be all set .
  12. Yes, it helps immensely. Not much to be done with the stock rear shock, it just plain blows ridng solo. Get a pillion, that helps more that anything Ok, another dumb question.... PILLION? Afraid to ask :icon_shifty:
  13. Ok, so i set the dampener adjustment scew all the way to soft setting. It still seem that when i hit a bump in the road, i get quite a kick back. Is there anything else I can do? Also, would just swaping out the front fork oil and springs help with the front? It also seem no to be very forgiving. Thanks in advance...

  15. I liked my ZG Double Bubble. And pssst... it's for sale here right now! :icon_shhh: .
  16. In fact, no, I am not. Wth stock forks, the Superbrace, IMO, did make a noteworthy improvement in front end feel and in your ability to hold a line during high-speed sweepers. However, with my testing this past few days, the Traxxion cartridges have made such a vast improvement in the forks, I almost can't tell the Superbrace is even on the bike. So I removed it for now. Re: Group Buy for these Traxxion units I'm working on this. If we could get a minimum of 10 dudes, the price could drop another $40-ish from each of the options. Obtaining one of these AK-20 kits for $860 - delivered - is a killer score! Uhhh, with my new purchase of an '01 stock XX... I may be up for this buy in a month or so. After leaving my fully rebuilt RaceTech front forks on my '97 (1,500 clams btw), the '01's suspension is leaving me me wanting.
  17. Anyone here know if there is a way to change the color of the digital dash illumination? Enquiring minds have to know :icon_think: .
  18. Friday's weigh-in... Up .5~1lb. . Don't really get it as I've been working out with cardio and weights. I worked out for 2.5 hours at a time, twice this week. This just sucks. I think I'm getting bigger, not smaller ...and hungry as hell!
  19. Glad the plugs did the trick! One question though, How the heck do people foul the plugs? I've ridden my XX for 28k without any plug related issue at all.
  20. Thanks everyone! I got some good feedback here. I'm going to check/replace the vacuum lines going to the petcock and try the 'wet spray testing' too. This problem has become a real issue with me as my XX is my primary form of transportaion to work. I'm really close to buying something else to commute with as my bird is becomming less and less reliable lately. Maybe a 2003 XX is in my future as I've never seen anything close that has the same characteristics as the XX's.
  21. Beondwacko, this statement is completely accurate IMO. S100 and Honda Brite are not the same. Honda has the S100 formula mixed in the Honda Brite formula, but with additional cleaners. HondaBrite will fuckup any polished and carbon fiber surfaces in seconds (don't ask me how i know ). S100 IMO is a great product all by itself, great on all surfaces (wet them first though). My 2 cents. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. I use the S-100 for all kinds of things. I actually used is as carpet cleaner the other day with the new car. My mother who was just visiting left a can of V8 tomato juice in the back of the Fiance's new Lexus. You can guess what happened next. It works well for that, but you need to dilute it down a little bit because the S-100 is so soapy. I also use the S-100 as a insect removal wash for the front of the car and truck, and as a wheel cleaner with a scrub brush on the Lexus. That damm car makes so much friggin' brake dust and it's so sooty that it's the only cleaner I have found that does the job. Other wheel cleaners require a lot more scrubbing on the rims to get the same end result, and they tend to leave more deposits if not rinsed really really well. I paid $35.00 for a 5 quart jug earlier this year. The HondaBrite sounds like it's not a Neutral PH if it does the damage on the polished surfaces and Carbon fiber as you mentioned it does. I only used it once, that was enough. It ruined my front a rear polished wheels and turned my carbon fiber front fender green with white lines. On a good note, the Honda Spray polisher/cleaner works great. It even repaired most of the damage of the HondaBrite crap. ...and getting back on topic, when my bird is really filthy from the wet roads, I have no problem with using a car wash wand. Just stay clear of the sensitive spots as mentioned. Then I usually take it on the hwy to get off the extra water. Once home, spray the honda polish on it and let it set a minute, then remove. Done.
  22. First it starts sputtering, then within 10 seconds it starts bogging out and dies. I can usually feel it comming on, it's not a quick on/off type of thing. One other thing that may help, it's never happened at say 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. Only at 1/16th to 1/8th throttle. Usually when I'm decellerating or just barely using the throttle at all. Typical synario, I'm riding about 30`40mph lane splitting in bad traffic on the hwy. Hope that helps!

    Rotor Question

No. Quit being a cheap jew bastid!
  24. Ok, After replacing the Petcock valve assembly which I though fixed the 'stalling issue' that I was experiencing, the bird started stalling out in the rain again. What's weird is that it 'usually' only happens intermittenly in the rain. One day it could be a complete downpour... no problems. The other day, with misty water in the air, bird stalls out. What's really weird is that the only thing I have to do is sit and wait about 3 minutes and she starts right up like nothing ever happened. Before anyone asks... It's not electrical. Everything lights up fine and the bike will turn over and over quickly without any issues. Also, it's not the kill switch, i've already replaced that too (euro switch buy). So I believe that it may be caused by the removal of the 'california emmissions equipment' that was removed by the previous owner. Getting closer to the point. My (counting from the left) 3rd fuel rail vacuum nipple is plugged. My Petcock has two nipples on it. One is connected (front vac nip), the other is wide open. Could this be the cause? If so, where should I hook up the rear petcock vacuum line? The third fuel rail plugged line maybe? Any help would be appreciated. I'm tired of being stranded on the hwy like I was riding a harley or something.
