    TOP END NOISE

It is part of the emmissions system they are reed valves allowing air to be sucked into the exhaust stream helping to burn excess fuel, there are two on the valve cover on my 98 XX there are two bolts that hold each cover on. You should be able to tell by looking at them if one is bad or not. Clic here forum thread pair valves. http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11681
  2. Does it do it with just you on it or only when two riders on it, chain gets tighter with more weight .

    TOP END NOISE

Check the valve clearance if you have the cover off. Is it still running the same as before the noise, if it is running rough it may have a small chunk of carbon under a valve, check the plugs, check the pair valves on the top of the valve cover.
  5. Make sure the caliper is in the swingarm slot and not on the top or bottom it is like a tounge and groove.
  6. You could take a lesson from Harley just get a lawnmower throttle and mount it on the gas tank, think how exciting it will be when you take a hand off the bars and set it at full throttle.
  7. If they wear fast try the Goldwing pads they have more pad material you have to leave the screens off the back of them for them to fit in the caliper, I have them in mine they work the same but should last much longer. 06435-MCA-006 GL1800 Part Number rear pads 06435-MAT-006 CBR Part Number Stock pads
  8. Are you sure the rear wheel is aligned and the rear wheel side spacers are on the correct sides, I have never tried to switch sides with the spacers but they are different.

    Valve nastiness.

Thsnk's for info I am going to do that before oil changes, the carbon seems to affect the idle when there is a high build up, it did more so on my GS1150ES air cooled, when I rebuilt it I was surprized how much intake valve carbon there was, taking it out on the road and blowing it out doesn't work, that's how I allways drove it.

    Valve nastiness.

Mine look the same way at 28000 miles, my XX doesn't use a drop of oil, so it's not from oil and not running rich (dynotuned light tan exhaust), that leaves fuel deposits and K&N filter oil, anyone got any ideas for cleaning without pulling the head?
