  1. The Wal-Mart stores in our area accept used oil. I think some of the auto parts stores do too. Burning it would be more fun.
  2. I think I paid about $220 for a set of Avons from SWmototire plus about $30 to have a dealer mount them.
  3. Mick tells me that there is a connection near the battery on the left side that has a history of corroding on the European models. You might check it out. Let me know what you find out. good luck.
  4. My bike has an analog temp gauge so I can't compare numbers with you. From what I remember from other posts, the guys with digital gauges (Digi-boys?) are seeing similar numbers. Can any of you other Digi-boys out there offer Ronnie any info?
  5. Ronnie, Define hot please. Is the temperature gauge in the red zone (or whatever is the digital equivalent on a newer bike)? I live in NE Oklahoma and never had an overheating problem. My temperature gauge does go toward the top of the "normal zone" when moving slowly on hot days.
  6. Are you still on your original set of sparkplugs? My '00 smells rich (sweet?)when it needs new plugs. From what I read here, 16K may be about the end of useful sparker life even for the Iridiums. Are the ends of your mufflers a little smoked?
  7. Please double check me, but I don't remember the front and rear pads being the same. I replaced stock pads with black Galfers and the rear pads were different than the fronts.
  8. Those are two good sources for Pyramid products. I got mine from David Cork. He's a nice guy and gave me great service.
  9. I don't know how many miles are on your front brake pads, but it would be a good idea to pull them and take a look. It only takes a couple of minutes to get them out. The outer left front pad has worn out on several 'Birds before the others. Mine was down to the metal at about 15K miles.

    Brake pad life?

Good point Joe. I thought mine were OK until I actually pulled the pads. I was shocked to see the left front pad worn to the metal. It hadn't caused rotor damage yet, but it had to be close. Warchild posted a thread several months ago describing similar pad wear on his bike. Thanks to him, I checked my pads and averted a more serious (and expensive) problem. Thanks again Dale.

    Brake pad life?

I replaced all three sets of pads at about 15K miles. I used Galfer Blacks per Carlos' recommendation and like them. One of my left front pads was worn down to the metal. The right side and rear had quite a bit of life left in them.

    Which Bars

I like my VFR bars too. They are comfortable and I think they look better than the Heli's. I even raised mine about 3/4" on the fork tubes.
  13. My 8981 has an 1100 spring and it works great. I weigh about 230 w/o gear. Penske recommended I set the rebound at 15 clicks and the compression at 3. Tim told me the 1100 spring is about right for me.
  14. The best way to deal with a guy like this is to just ignore his shit. Why waste our energy and bandwidth even addressing him.
  15. Avon 45/46's to my door in three days at a bargain price. What can I say. Great service, fair prices, good products, free shipping for two tires. I'll use these guys again.
  16. I just got back from my first short ride on the new Avons. Man, what a difference they make! I was using D207's before changing to the 45/46's. I thought the Dunlops were pretty good until I tried the Avons. The D207's felt more triangular compared to the Avons. They felt like you were riding on a knife edge. When travelling straight, they were stable, but when you turned, it felt like you were falling off the edge. That feeling was a little disconcerting until you got used to it. On the other hand, the Avons feel more round. The best way I can describe them is "linear". The more you lean, the more they turn. There were no noticable transition points. I haven't pushed them very hard yet, but they feel very stable so far. I'm really surprised that tires can make such a very noticable difference in the bike's handling. I'm and old fart and don't really ride that hard, but even I can notice a difference.

    Mixture

My '00 smelled rich and smoked the ends of the mufflers too until I replaced the plugs. Have you replaced yours lately?
  18. Well, I got my Avons installed today. I ordered the 45/46 combo from SWMotoTire and had the same good experience that several others have reported. I'm anxious to get out and take a ride on the new tires. I went a little crazy and actually cleaned the wheels, forks, sprocket, chain and swing arm while the wheels were off. Combining that with the R&R of the wheels and a 160 mile round trip to Tulsa to get the tires installed, it's been a full day. Now it's time to mow the yard. I thought I'd start out with 37psi in the front and 39 in the rear. What do you guys run in them?
  19. My Penske is an 8981. It's the one with compression and rebound damping. The compression damping adjustment is in the remote reservoir. They will tailor the spring and damping shims to your specs or weight if you are buying a new shock. Traxxion Dynamics offers a Penske shock without the remote reservoir. I almost bought one of those before I was lucky enough to find my very slightly used shock. I think some of the other guys on the list bought the Traxxion Dynamics model and are happy with it.
  20. What the hell is this? Dale and Joe talking about pedaling their 'Birds?? Say it ain't so!!
  21. I know the Penske Howie had on his '01 will fit an '00. Lucky for me you decided to go with Ohlins Howie. I love it and it really makes the bike more fun to ride. It's a more comfortable ride too.
  22. You might check out some of your local auto parts stores. Our local O'Reily's store has great prices on NGK plugs.
  23. I'm looking for a good compliment to my Penske 8981 shock for the front forks. Even though the "Unmentionable Tuner" has stirred controversy in the past, I am strongly considering him for my fork mods over Race-Tech. You and Warchild seem very happy with his work.
  24. Yep, I used a +2" clutch line too. I cut the tabs while I still had the stock lines on the bike. Like Mike said, the stock lines will work with the VFR bars.
  25. Hi Pace, I used +2" Galfer lines with my VFR bars. They were plenty long enough even with the VFR bars raised about 3/4". I did cut the tabs off the brake and clutch reservoirs though.
