  1. Pete.. I've put the Silverstars in all my vehicles. The light is whiter and are about 500°K (that makes them around 4000°K) "hotter" than your Cool Blues. I find that these fifty YO eyes see more at night with these bulbs than with the standard halogens. My next step may be the HID replacements, but for the time being the Silverstars work just fine. OH yeah, don't forget to put some dielectric grease on the plugs/prongs!
  2. Contrary to some other opinions... I like the Silverstars.
  3. Same here in Colorado...
  4. I know Jeff's map is for an '00 with slipons, but I'm curious if anyone has tried it on a basically stock engine with a K&N. And if so, did it make a difference or not...
  5. Funny how some of these posts will get a guy motivated... A half an hour to do both front calipers... And about half of that time was just peeking and poking around the calipers. Those ECB HH's DO make a difference. I guess I'll get around and do the rear soon...
  6. MileHi

    oops CCT

Aren't ya glad it wasn't a grenade?!?!?! I also found that a real small slotted (straight blade) screwdriver works well to wind it back up. Oh and don't pull the pin again until you're ready!!!
  7. I'll add my thanks to John... Great service AND he was nice enough to grab some aprts for me while he was in the UK!!!
  8. Yuppers... They make a fluid change SOOOOO painless! It got a little pricey with the LBS, but it's still worth it IMHO...
  9. Well, to be honest.... I was wondering just that... Oh well, it kept me busy (and outta trouble) for a few hours, and it's easily removed if the fan dies!!! BTW Joe... Thanks for the CCT. I got it installed too!
  10. Here's shot of the fan from the front. From above... And from the rear...
  11. I just knew someone would ask that... I'll see what I can do, as I really STILL don't want to take the side cover off!!! BTW... It survived a wash 'n wax.
  12. I've read enough threads here (and on some VFR lists) about the Honda R/R getting hot and cooking itself. And with my experiences with Ducati regulators, I decided to take a "proactive" approach to this "issue". It looks like the Viffer guys use a computer case fan and attach it to the regulator and power it off of a tail light or the brake light circuits. SO off I go, with a handful of case fans, zipties and and a positive "can do" attitude. I managed to get the fan attached to the R/R without totally removing the side body panel, but I think I lost a lot more skin that I would have if I had removed the panel. So, it's installed and the fan comes on with the ignition... Whoo hoo... Uh, not just yet Bunkie... Apparently there is more free space between the R/R and body panel on the Viffer than ther is on the XX! Off comes the fan (more skinned knuckles), and Ray puts the ol' thinking cap back on... He roots through his boxes of old computer parts (some dating back to Z80 days) and finds the solution to his problem! The 60 cm fan off of an OEM AMD CPU heatsink is perfect. It's only about 10 cm tall, so clearance isn't a problem... I wired it into the rear brake light circuit and it works fine!!! I've only tested it out on a few short rides but the R/R does feel cooler to the touch. And if the fan should fail, it's small enough that it will not block the regulator's fins to affect the normal radiant cooling. Has anyone else tried anything like this??? Or, do I have too much time on my hands?
  13. One word..... NO!!!! Dot 3 or 4 only! Any 5 and you can start looking for a new brake system or all new seals and lines. Funny how DOT 5.1 is now called ABS Brake Fluid... Probably for just that reason! How STUPID could the DOT get and name a DOT 3/4 compatible brake fluid 5.1 (silicon based and NOT DOT 3/4 compatible) is beyond me!!! When I purchased the last couple of bottles of DOT 5.1 (at Checker) A (heated) discussion was had with the clerk... He insisted that there was no such thing as 5.1 and a wiser, cooler headed clerk showed me to the ABS brake fluid...
  14. rockmeup... I think you meant he needs the VM master link...
  15. Well for MY fat ass the pre-load is just a bit over half way done on the the threads. The rebound (?) is at the mid point (1 1/4 turns out?). And I installed a 6 mm washer on top of the shock mount. Now I do have a 900RR shock that will be getting a "heart transplant" and a 1000# spring done at Works in a month or two. I know lots of people recommend Linneman and Traxxion, but I've been dealing with Works for over 20 years and they have yet to do me wrong... Most recently they performed the same heart transplant on my Ducati 900SS's shock... It may not be fancy or really purdy, but it's inexpensive and works right when they're done...
  16. Between 210-220 w/o gear... And I increased the length of the spacer by 7/8"
  17. Well I just replaced the stock spacer with a 8 3/4" PVC spacer. Wow... What a difference! The sag with me aboard is just a hair over 1 1/2". It looks like the RaceTech Gold Valve kit that I got for the Bandit also works for the XX too. The only difference is that the Bandit useda 1.0 spring. Looks like I'll want to get the heavier spring. But the new spacer works for now! Excellent info in this thread... Thanks guys!!!
  18. Y'all crack me up!!! My Bandit is running right when the valves are happily cllicking and clacking away... If it get quiet... you get worried... VERY WORRIED! Then consider the mechanical noises generated by my old Ducati 900SS... Valves a clackin'... And the sweet sound of that dry clutch!!! People thing that the bike's about to grenade itself!!! Can't forget the Micron cans either... On the pipe, the Duc could put most H-Ds to shame... And the Duc actually generates power with the noise... After all that, when I hop on the XX, it's the sounds of silence... Kinda like I've broken the sound barrier!
  19. I just put about 150 miles in the Z6... Me likes! I did that and the 6mm spacer on the shock! Totally transformed the bike... Of course that was coming from bald/squared off/scalloped/old D205's...I do believe that the XX is a keeper!
  20. I had the same problems with the Givis and the aftermarket exhaust on the Bandit. I went to a Checker Auto store and purchased a 4" chrome exhaust extention and shoved it up the exhaust can outlet... It isn't real pretty, but it works and beats the hell outta burning holes in the saddlebags (I did) and melting every synthetic article in the bag!
