  1. On the track, I run an Metzeler RS1 Rennsport on the front and RS2 on the back. The RS1 rear is so soft, it is only good for a day or so at the track. By going with the 2, I am giving up a little softness, thus wear, which works great with the sticky 1 up front. A number of track guys run a stickier tire up front, you just have to ride knowing the rear will slide before the front. MaXX
  2. Mark, truely sorry for your mother's condition (fuck dood, I hope you didn't just make me waste a true sentiment, I rarely give them)!!!! The beauty of this board (to me anyway) is how different we all really are, yet we come together consistently with the XX. This board allows us to express our positions, regardless of how DIFFERENT they may be from one another. Nik is a great guy, his post maybe fucking prickish from your perspective, but it is a GENUINE opinion based on experience with your thread and his own personality. Same goes for Redbird and Randy. My response would be completely different then yours was, but that is just me. It is easy to appeal to someone, regardless of their combative position. You had the opportunity to make Nik your number one supporter, instead, you chose to do things the way you always have (on this board anyway) and got the same result. Dude, a quick: I understand where you are coming from Nik, sorry I have done such a poor job showing my true colors and you will see, soon enough who I really am...I am distracted with LIFE but that does not justify my rudeness to complete strangers (by the way, it does justify being a complete dick to those you love and know you really well, but they better know why immediately afterwards) I'm SORRY!!!! Damn it, you went the other way again!!! PLEASE FUCKING STOP THAT!!!! MaXX
  3. The simple thing here is that Mark knows that neither of the checks cleared. Mark knows his checked bounced. Mark also knows Jim was not paid for product rendered. You either chose to make it right or not, it is a character thing, nothing more. To continue the character theme. Not knowing you except from this thread and your ebay post, you seem to lack basic honesty, integrity and civility. Your honesty is not even questionable, it is non-existent. Why would you be so ashamed of your posts to delete them???? I remember being caught in a lie when I was 8. Taught me something about my self and what I wanted to be. Having integrity and following through on commitments is driven by honesty. You are at a loss there Mark but fortunately, you have the ability to make it right. Become an honest person, and you will inherently develop integrity. At times you have demonstrated civility and tried to argue your points (which have now all disappeared). I am guessing you are not a "bad" person, just in a new situation where you were called out on some BS and continue to stand behind the BS vs. just admitting your ignorance to what you were believing to be true. Fuck man, we all get corrected. You just chose to continue the charade. If you would have posted that you did not think of the gearing change and the Cop story was just an embelishment, we would have all applauded your passion for the XX and HONESTY when called out. Instead, you defended an impossible position with people who KNOW. The Hugger situation is just fuel for the fire. Fuck man, fix your obligations. We're not curing cancer here. Not one on this fucking forum has real long memory's and is going to hold it against you for doing what we KNOW you did. Just come clean, make it right with Jim and be on your way, or stay if you like. You owe it to yourself to start here. If you can't be honest with complete strangers, whom you get to chose to continue conversing with and/or meet someday or not, how do you expect to be honest with your family/friends and worst yet yourself??????? MaXX P.S. I would have been excited to share all the hard work I had done to my XX and probably been overzealous in my original post too. It would have broke my heart that not EVERYONE liked what I did, but then again, if I TRULY liked it myself, and I get more yea's then nay's, I would have been OK with it. Instead, you got defensive and hung onto your embeleshments vs. stating I was a little over excited and really wanted to impress you guys, I did not get the response I expected but I really like it. And you know what, we would have all said, GREAT, it is not exactly what I would have done, but if you are happy, that is all that matters. IMO, although you kept saying you loved it and you didn't care what others thought, I find it way to coincidental that after some critiques, you are now selling it. Dude, are you really being honest with yourself that you like it, that you don't care what others think???? Wanting to be accepted is human nature. Balancing that with what you really like and not focusing on what others think is tough. Not looking to get flamed here, but you have a little growing up to do. Good Luck!! MaXX

    XX knocking

The XX will make all kinds of snorts, knocks, pings, snaps, crackles, and pops, get used to it. Every 10,000 miles or so, my bike gets a strange sound and then self heals in a couple thousand miles. Now that I am over 40,000 miles though, it makes fewer sounds less frequently. It is a self healing bike that makes noises. If the CCT is going, you will know. That is a distinct loose chain sound. I personally would not worry to much about it, but that is just me. If it goes away at higher RPM's and does not get worse, giddy-up!!!! MaXX
  5. Nik, you are way to overprotective, I think Biggie's pussy is good looking!!!!! MaXX
  6. Thanks Biggie!!!! Seemed important because of the post count, but I couldn't see through all the brown matter!!!!! MaXX
  7. So, what's going on in this thread??????? MaXX
  8. I couldn't even get the Platinum Plugs through NAPA!!! They were unavailable. I think Honda has moved some bikes to the Iridiums (post 98) and kept 97-98's at the Platinums. Just for availability and the extra 4k miles, I went with the Iridiums in my 98. MaXX
  9. Yep, got mine through NAPA also. Only took 2 days. MaXX
  10. Like I said, I dump the Platinums after 8k. If your bike is stock, you will only notice the plug degradation in MPG and then when you change them. With my bike being piped and jetted, this time, at 9k miles, my bike starts to back fire a bit at 4k RPM's. Replaced the platinums with Iridiums last night, unless you change the plugs, you don't know how much it really wakes the bike up!!!!!! Literally, two different bikes. MaXX
  11. Hell, you can probably go over 100,000 miles on a set of plugs, just not effectively. I just bought my first set of Iridiums (they are out in the truck). I have changed the platinums religiously at 8,000 miles, even when I felt like I didn't need to. Everytime, the change was so significant. I plan to try 10,000 - 12,000 on the iridiums because IMO, no matter which plugs you buy, the XX eats them and will run faster/more efficient on new ones. Warchild has been a part of a number of these threads, Dale, what are you getting out of Iridiums for effective mileage???? MaXX
  12. You put 21k miles on a set of BT57's??????? WOW :bigshock: MaXX
  13. Most tires last between 3,000-6,000 miles on the XX. I am guessing you ment Bridgestone Battalax's or Michelin Macadam 90X's (if it is the Michelins, they are probably not stock). Tires really depend on what you are going to do. I run Metzeler Sprotec M1's around MN but when I go on a long haul, I will run the Metzeler MEz4's and my next run, I will probably try the Avons (guys are getting a lot of miles from them). The M1's are very sticky but I burn up a rear tire in 3,000 miles, no matter how I ride it. If you look at your front (and it is a bridgestone) my guess it is cupped really bad (they are notorious for this). That would be my guess as to the problem. Do you have tire tools there at NAPA??? If not, we can order tires online and I can put them on for you. No that I think about it, I have some spark plugs coming into the NAPA up in Elk River, wonder if they came in yet??????? Mac
  14. Pete, how old are your tires???? Mine will shake when the front is worn quite a bit!!!! If not, you may want to check the balance of your tires. MaXX

    Tank Slap?

Randy, I have experienced the exact same thing (with worn tires)!! Not under braking though, just coasting like you said. New rubber fixed it right up. MaXX

    Tank Slap?

Craig, I have seen an 80 MPH tank slapper (on a 929) after coming down off of a wheelie, is that still considered low speed . MaXX

    Tank Slap?

This is strange. You brake hard (with no problems), then you let off the brake and the clipons start wobbling back and forth in a violent tank slapper (coming from full turn to full turn)??????? Were you back on the gas right away right after braking making the front light???? This bike has been the most solid steed I have ever ridden. It is so heavy and the wheel base so long that it is very difficult to "tank slap" this bike, unless something is very wrong. From what you describe, I am wondering if one of your front calipers is not letting go??? The tires were new and the pressure was correct (between 35 - 40????). No suspension changes. Either I am misunderstanding what happened, or I would narrow it down to something with the brakes (bad caliper, warped rotor?????) or unbalanced tire or bad tire. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. MaXX
  18. I don't really have a problem with it. The front looks big fat and heavy and the ass looks as light as a feather (kind of like a bulldog). I like the idea of high mounts or a custom system to fill in some of that space but the full Akrapovic probably gets you more HP (then any slip-ons). I admire the time, money and effort you put into your bike. You had to assume that on this board, some would like it, some would hate it and some would be indifferent. All that matters is you like it. In addition, we have everyone on this board, from a crazy fucker that eats miles like Dorito's and a HP junkie who is knocking on the door of a 500 HP XX, to ex racers and squids and everyone in between. Be sure you KNOW what you think you KNOW before posting it. Welcome to the forum, unique bike. MaXX

    MIG Question

I went from V&H CF slip-ons to the MIG's and I felt a "ass dyno" gain with the MIG's. I think it was from a lack of back pressure from the V & H's. Not sure, but I have been happy with the MIG's. MaXX

    Ticking???

Leave it alone, it will go away!!!! My bike is fun that way. I have a 1998 with 43,000 miles, I bought it brand new in 1998 and all the miles are mine. With that being said, I have had noises, ticks, rattles, pings...show up from time to time, then, miraculously self heal. The bike is kind of weird that way. This is just my opinion and if it really bothers you, do whatever makes you feel good. Me, I would just enjoy the nice new sound until it goes away and a new one appears. My $.02 MaXX
  21. I was just going to say the exact same thing. The riding position on the XX (and every sportbike, even from one another) is completely different then MX, Touring, or cruiser bikes. Your wrists will first need some beafing up (this takes time). The muscles in your neck will get a work out too, especially if you are shorter as you are limited in the positions you can put your head in and ride. Your back is next. You will use muscles that you have never needed to in the past riding anyways. Give it a couple of months of riding before you do anything. You will notice your wrists, neck and back will feel much better and your ass, well, depending on the miles you do, it too will "Break in" but you may want to pick up an aftermarket seat if you are a mile eater. Give it some time, you will come to love the ergo's of this bike. MaXX
  22. Yep, the Rene's have a real race rip to them. I like the sound a bit more then my MIG's but it is really a personal preference. The MIG's have a great growl to them, the Rene's have a great rip to them. MaXX

    K & N Filter?

You are not going to get much HP in a change from the stock air filter. What you get is a less maintenance intensive air filter. With changing the plugs every 8-10k miles, you need to be under the tank anyway, but if you buy the iridiums and a K&N, you can leave both in there a lot longer. I went with the K&N for maintenance and time/cost effectiveness. MaXX
  24. It is made by Sprocket Specialties and it is called the Hybrid Sprocket. They ran into some trouble keeping them round. Apparently, a few turned out oblong and most folks that sold them stop selling them. They do look cool. I wanted one for the Tuono as the center is gold and the steel is black (theme of the Tuono), but nobody is selling them anymore. MaXX
  25. I seriously doubt that cam chains stretch that much in 40k. The CCT has about 1 inch of travel. When I pull mine out, I will measure how much more throw it has. My bike has 12k on it now, and had 2k on it the first time it started making noise. Theres no way the CCT is even near the end of its travel. Revlimitbounce is correct. The VFR had gear driven cams from its debut in 1986 to the 4th generation...(1998-2001). Only the 5th gen. have chain driven cams. My CCT on the rear cylinder went out on my VTR at 25,000 miles, slipped the chain and bent all 4 valves. Replaced both chains front and back and both CCT's when I put it back together and the chains were not really stretched, just the CCT let go and the chain slipped. The chain can slip with no tensioner just by itself. It is not taunt enough without the tensioner. I replaced my CCT in the XX with one of the first X-11's to get here to the states and it has been solid for 20,000 miles plus. The XX and the VTR are completely different on the Cam chains. The V-Twins are intrinsically harder on the chains then the smooth delivering I-4's. MaXX
